Beregis avtomobilya (1966)
Brilliant
Just a great movie portraying the genres most often used in movies at that time: love, light humour. Smoktynovsky is perhaps not the ideal choice for the role (Ryzanov originally wanted Nikylin for this role, but the latter was currently in the also great comedy - Diamond Arm), yet he is very good. There are many funny quotes in this film, better understood if you understand Russian, a ton of small funny moments which just make you grin. The cast gives an outstanding performance. Back to Smoktynovsky again, I'll describe the movie for you a bit. He is an honest insurance agent who steals and sells cars from unfairly rich people, and gives the money to foster homes. His best friend is a detective trying to find the thief. After he learns the shocking truth, he obviously does not want Detochkin (Smoktynocsky's hero) to be punished severely.
12 stulev (1971)
A nice treasure hunt
Gaidai's adaption of Ilf and Petrov's book is better than the 1977 version. Mironov is a good actor, but Archil Gomashvilli is better, though it is not his voice in the movie. Gaidai disliked his voice and asked another actor to do Gomashvilli's lines. That was met with great protest from Gomashvilli and they fought with Gaidai, thus starting a many year mute dispute. Pugovkin (father Fyodor) is also interesting in this role as the "compition" as Ostap calls him. This film is a must-see as here Gaidai once again shows off his talent for light comedy. And by the way, did you know that Karapeinikov (the person from whom Ostap bought the orders for the chairs) is actually Gaidai himself! Almost all Soviet viewers did not know and many still are not aware of this, that it is Gaidai himself there. A great movie!
Pokrovskie vorota (1983)
A really decent movie
Just watch this brilliantly made film from the 80s USSR and you will love it. It portrays ordinary Moscow citizens from the 50s, the main hero being Kostik (Oleg Menshikov). He depicts his life from the moment that he arrived in Moscow to attend university. The main heroes have plenty of warm and humorous adventures, several broken hearts, yet everything is always alright at the end. It is quite something to watch this movie now and remember those times. This movie will undoubtedly cause some to get a bit nostalgistic, but that just adds to the quality of this film. It was always pleasing to see such great movies from the Soviet Union and always will be.
Sobaka na sene (1978)
An Eifel Tower in art
This beautiful film is a true classic with all the actors each in their zenith of acting and the director being perhaps one of the best in Soviet times. This masterpiece can even be put close to the 1979 "Tot samyy Myunkhgauzen" which, undoubtedly, is the crown of achievable art. With unforgettable music and just amazing acting, Sobaka will spellbound you from the start. Mikhail Lozinsky delivers an unbelievable good translation from Spanish. For Sobaka na Cene (Dog on the Hay) is an old drama written by Lope de Vega. What defines old Spanish tales is the fact that they are very intriguing. If there ever was an Eifel Tower in art, this just has to be it!
Solomennaya shlyapka (1974)
A funny and enchanting comedy
A truly funny film in which humour knows no bounds. Vladislav Strezelchik in the role of a bit dumb, but funny father is simply enchanting. He actually portrays his character better than the main role (Andrei Mironov). This film has beautiful music and great acting. If you want to laugh, then you should watch this delightful and entertaining comedy.
The songs are timeless classics and the music is very good. The actors are all perfect in their roles and deliver a great performance. If you liked this movie, you might also like "Brillyantovaya Ryka" with the main role being Yuri Nikylin.
Tot samyy Myunkhgauzen (1980)
A superb masterpiece
This film is the crown of all soviet films. I recommend this film to anyone who wants to receive top-quality entertainment. All of the actors in this film are excellently chosen and fit into their roles perfectly. This film will have you laughing in some places and brushing tears from your eyes in others. The music alone is enough to captivate your attention. To fully understand this masterpiece, you must pay attention to the slightest movement, to every word. This is a very moving film that deserves no criticisicm and should be treated with respect. No matter how many times you watch this film, you won't grow tired of it. Simply superb. 15/10
Zolushka (1947)
about the film
a very touching film. i watched it multiple times and after each time i had an even more positive attitude towards the movie. i advise you to watch this enchanting masterpiece. the more you watch it, the more you actually understand the whole concept and point of the movie. this movie is suitable for viewing by all ages. no adult oriented scenes. this movie promotes kindness and should be treated with respect. i never knew that Yanina Zhejmo was actually 38 in the movie. she completely looks her part in the role of a sixteen year old. the prince (Aleksei Konsovsky) is 35 in the movie. he looks not much older than twenty.
