Black and Blue (2019)
This is a fabulous ride!
Truly one of the best movies I've seen all year! I almost didn't go when I read some of the bad reviews, and boy, I would have missed a great movie! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and Naomie Harris and Tyrese Gibson were very believeable in their roles! In fact, Naomie really carried the movie, and was in nearly every scene. The action scenes and twists of the story were excellent entertainment, but also made a strong social statement. The corruption in that police force was scary, yet seemed plausible. Keep making great movies, and move over Hollywood, we have a new action star....Naomie Harris came to play!
Cold Pursuit (2019)
Nobody Does It Better! Liam Neeson can do no wrong!
I haven't enjoyed a movie so much in a good while! With Liam Neeson as the lead, I was anticipating a great movie, but it far surpassed my expectations! The dark comedy reminded me of my all-time favorite "Fargo," a very enjoyable roller coaster ride right out of the gate, artfully combining action, gore with humor. The drug lords that Liam set his sights on killing were no match for his character, a man of few spoken words, who dished out a heaping plate of cold revenge, taking them down one by one. But all of the actors/characters in this movie played into the story and made it so enjoyable. Tom Bateman played the wily villain you love to hate, and made the film a thrilling ride, and was itching to see him get his due. A very satisfying movie, with great directing...this one gives your money's worth, for sure!
Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018)
At last a worthy platform to showcase Melissa McCarthy's acting abilities!
I absolutely loved Melissa McCarthy's portrayal of Lee Israel, and have been so looking forward to seeing her in such a role. As much as I have laughed till it hurts watching her previous roles in movies, I felt much of her talents had not been tapped in those earlier films. She gives an Oscar-worthy performance in this movie, and enables viewers to sympathize with the flawed character she portrays. And I hate to admit, but I was not familiar with the work of her co-star Richard E. Grant until now, but the masterful way that Melissa and Richard brought to life the unique friendship of Lee and Jack was very enjoyable to watch. Richard's performance of Jack was likewise noteworthy and fabulous. I would love to see Melissa in many more great roles. She is one of the most talented, versatile comedic, and now dramatic, actresses today. It is a shame, however, that I had to hunt to find a theater where this movie was even playing, and it's only in limited viewings, for some reason. I just hope that enough audience is given the opportunity to see this film. Melissa is the kind of actress who gives 150 percent of herself to whatever role she takes on, and this is what makes her a delight to watch!
Condor (2018)
One of the best series in a very long time!
Finally....a suspenseful, edgy series that serves up a really entertaining, edge of your seat thriller, and it's on television! I am a great fan of the original movie, and Robert Redford was fantastic in the original. This made for television series is never meant to replace or duplicate the original. But it has done a great job of capturing the suspense and plot twists of the original, but expanding the storyline to turn it into a series. From the first episode, I was hooked, and really have looked forward to each new episode. I just watched tonight's episode and it did not disappoint! The acting has been good, the writing and production qualities have been better than most of the shows and even the motion pictures that I've seen in a while. I never post ratings, but had to make an exception for this one, as it is worth praise!
