The Gentlemen (2024)
Cool Guy Ritchie tv show
Starring Vinnie Jones, Ray Winstone, Theo James, Joely Richardson & others, this show is about a soldier who is summoned home when his father dies & as he inherits his family's estate he soon discovers that part of that is a huge & elaborate cannabis empire as he now has to adapt to deal with all the things that come with it such as other gangs trying to take it & whilst trying to grow the business he also has to protect his brother after he kills the brother of a psychotic vicar. It's your typical & entertaining Guy Ritchie gang land type story so if you like that type of thing like I do then it's worth a watch if you haven't seen it already.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Another Indiana Jones adventure
Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone & others star in this instalment of the Indiana Jones franchise where after learning that his job teaching at a college is looking unsteady, Indy is approached by a young man who wants him to accompany him to Peru to find a legendary Crystal skull & as they go off on their adventure together they soon learn that a bunch of Russians are also in pursuit of the skull believing it will help them achieve world domination whilst Indy also discovers the young man is actually his son! The film was ok & worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet, it's your usual Indiana Jones adventure film.
Bodkin (2024)
Irish murder mystery
The show is about a group of podcasters who take it upon themselves to investigate the disappearance of a couple of people from a fictional Irish town called bodkin who went missing one year on the Eve of Samhain causing mass speculation & tales as to what happened to them & it's up to the podcasters to figure out the myths from the facts to find out what happened & which of the shows characters were involved. I found the show quite boring & hard to follow to be honest & it didn't really hold my concentration & I thought it was a bit of a rip off of Only Murders In The Building so if you haven't watched it yet then I wouldn't recommend doing so as there are much better things to watch.
Baby Reindeer (2024)
Disturbing that this is based on true events
Starring Jessica Gunning, Nina Sosanya, Michael Wildman & Tom Goodman-Hill this is the true story of a man trying to make it as a comedian whilst trying to make ends meet working as a bartender when his fate makes a dark & disturbing turn as he crosses paths with a woman who enters the bar where he works one evening & after he shows her an act of kindness by giving her a drink on the house she then latches onto him & begins relentlessly stalking him to the point where his relationship with his parents & new love interest are affected & also his chances of making it as a comedian are too as she turns up at his gigs heckling him & he is also being sexually abused by another man in the comedy industry who says he can help him but just ends up getting him addicted to drugs so he can abuse him. The fact that this is based on true events is really disturbing not only because of how deranged the stalker is & the severity of the stalking & sexual abuse inflicted on the victim but also the fact that he seems to miss the stalker during the times when the stalking seems to have decreased briefly, it's almost as if they are interdependent on each other in a way & he almost encourages her at times as if he feels worthless & deserves it which I found extremely sad & I felt for the guy. I watched it to see what all the hype was about & whilst I wouldn't say I enjoyed watching it for obvious reasons & I wouldn't watch it again, I would say it's worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet as it's an eye opener but be prepared as it's very upsetting & disturbing!
Fallout (2024)
Will have to play the game now to compare
Starring the likes of Walton Goggins, Kyle Maclachlan, Dale Dickey & Erik Estrada this tv show follows the lives of individuals surviving in a post nuclear war world a couple of hundred years after the bombs have hit Los Angeles & people have to live in the safety of underground vaults but when the father of one of them is kidnapped by wasteland raiders in an elaborate ambush then she has to leave the safety of her vault to go & rescue him only to discover he is the one responsible for the nuclear apocalypse in the first place whilst another character she meets finds out his beloved wife also played a part in planning it. After this was recommended to me I didn't think I was going to like it as I'm not really a sci fi fan but it was better than I expected as I enjoyed the imaginative fantasy element to it which really bought the storyline of the characters alive & now I'm going to have to play the game to see how it compares. I've seen better shows but like I said it was better than I expected so if post apocalyptic sci fi fantasy shows are your thing then you might want to give it a go.
Dead Boy Detectives (2024)
Good idea but failed to reach its potential
Starring the likes of Michael Beach this tv show is about a couple of young chaps who have died but instead of moving on into the afterlife their ghosts decide to stay earthbound in order to help solve supernatural crimes with the help of a clairvoyant amongst others whilst the likes of a cat king & a troublesome witch try making things very difficult for them. I thought the idea behind it had potential to make for a good tv show but sadly it didn't live up to it & so I found it quite bland & boring & it didn't really hold my concentration & the fact that the main characters were both overacting quite a bit was also annoying & so if you haven't seen this yet then I'd advise you to give it a miss as you might be as disappointed as I was.
Stranger Things (2016)
I don't get what all the hype was about!?
Winona Ryder, Matthew Modine, Cary Elwes & Robert Englund star in this confusing & over complicated tv show that tells the story of a group of residents from an American town who go searching for a missing little boy & in doing so they start to uncover strange government secrets, secret experiments & even stranger alien/demonic entities who seem hell bent on world domination/control as the group of residents, lead by a little girl (who's left nostril always seems to be bleeding anytime she does anything) with powerful psychic abilities, try to stop them. I thought I'd give this a go with all the hype around it & with it only being 4 seasons of 8-9 episodes per season but I wish I hadn't bothered as it was so far fetched & overly complicated that I just found it annoyingly hard to follow & I soon lost interest in it, especially as season 4's episodes are all the length of short films with the final episode being 2 hours & 21 minutes long! Saying that though, seasons 3 & 4 are the best of the 4 with a couple of slightly interesting storylines & much cooler enemies compared to the first 2 seasons in which the aliens are just slug like entities with no intelligence whatsoever which seemed very uninventitive & lacked creativity but then again as the show seems to be heavily influenced by dungeons & dragons which I've never been into them maybe that's how they were supposed to be? Either way, I wasn't impressed & I won't be watching the final season when it comes out & I would highly recommend anyone thinking of watching this not to bother!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Great sequel
Benedict Cumberbatch, the stunning Elizabeth Olsen, the gorgeous Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski & many others star in this cool marvel sequel in which Doctor Strange has a dream about a girl in which together they do battle with a dark force but then when he actually meets the girl from his dream he soon comes to realise it wasn't a dream at all but another existence in the multiverse & that the girl is able to help him travel across the multiverse where he teams up with his fellow superheroes in order to battle multiple threats which could destroy millions of innocent people, he even has to do battle with different versions of himself aswell as trying to stop the very hot Scarlet Witch from causing havoc as she tries to reunite with her children she created but lost as she makes it clear she will go to any lengths in order to do so. I really enjoyed watching this although it was a little hard to follow in places & if you haven't watched it yet then I highly recommend you do so.
The Big Bang Theory (2007)
Best sitcom since FRIENDS
Stars the likes of Johnny Galecki, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Kevin Sussman & many others including guest appearances from the likes of William Shatner & James Earl Jones, this hilarious sitcom follows the lives of a group of high intellectuals & their significant others as the friends & colleagues regularly get together & get into all kinds of side splitting situations over 12 seasons of 24 episodes per season on average & as you see the characters relationships grow you can't help but to grow to love them. Took me a good couple of months to get through the whole box set but I'm glad I stuck with it as I found it to be the best & most funny sitcom since FRIENDS & if by chance you've not seen it yet then I highly recommend watching it as it's so good!
The Office (2005)
So funny, loved it!
Starring the likes of the hilarious Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Ed Helms. James Spader, Catherine Tate & others, this show follows the lives & loves of a group of colleagues who work together in an office for a paper supply company & their relationships with each other & those around them as they are being filmed for a documentary. Over 9 hilarious seasons you grow to know & love a group of great characters including an awkwardly funny boss who's a hopeless romantic always falling in love at first sight & putting his foot in it at work with regards to political correctness, then there's the hilariously funny office prankster who's in love with the beautiful but engaged office secretary & who's always making her laugh by pranking the strict office brown nose who takes himself way too seriously to name a few. I can't believe I've only just got around to watching this but I'm glad I did, I loved it & if you've not seen it yet then I highly recommend watching it!
Fleabag (2016)
A bit bland but it's ok
Olivia Colman, Bill Paterson, Hugh Dennis & Hugh Skinner star in this tv series about a woman, her life in London as she deals with the death of her mother & tries to get herself a love life & also her relationships with her friends & family members such as her sister, father & his new partner, annoying brother in law & so on. I thought it was relatively bland to be honest but it does have it's funny moments so even though it's not great then if you're bored & can't find anything to watch then you might find it entertaining & worth a watch but now I've seen it I wouldn't bother watching it again.
Smile (2022)
Spine chilling!
Caitlin Stasey, Judy Reyes & Kal Penn star in this spine chiller about a psychologist who witnesses a patient in the midst of a psychological breakdown during which she seemingly becomes possessed by an evil entity with a devious, haunting smile before she then commits suicide in front of her. Haunted by the experience, the psychologist then starts to have a breakdown of her own as she is haunted by frightening events caused by the entity & then with the help of a cop she learns that the entity has been jumping from one person to the other by making its next victim witness the suicide of its current victim & the only way to break the cycle is to get its current victim to commit murder & so the psychologist must then confront the demon & try to banish it from her life & mind. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this film but I really did, it has quite a few genuinely scary moments & made me jump a few times & it's been a while since I've watched a horror film that's had that affect on me so if you like a good, creepy spine chiller that catches you off guard then I highly recommend watching it, the only thing I didn't like was that the ending seemed to drag on for too long & was a bit far fetched.
Nightcrawler (2014)
Cold & dark
Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo & the late, great Bill Paxton star in this film about a criminal with a psychopathic, dark nature who finds himself drawn into a new career path of photojournalism as he needs to make money to get by & so he obtains a video camera & police scanner & goes out at night & starts filming car crashes & murders & so on which he then sells to a news station but in his desire to increase his income he goes to increasingly more daring & disturbing lengths to get darker stories leading him into a cold, dark, downward spiral. I'm surprised I've only just seen this as it's 10 years old but I'm glad I watched it & I recommend you do too if you haven't already as it's very good!
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Thor at his best!
Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffalo, Idris Elba & many others star in this epic instalment of marvels Thor films in which we see the mighty god of thunder imprisoned in the other side of the universe from his home of Asgard & without his mighty hammer. As Asgard becomes threatened by the goddess of death Hela, Thor must battle his fellow avenger the hulk before returning to Asgard to save it & his Asgardian civilisation from Hela who wants to bring the destruction of Ragnarok upon it. I've seen this film a few times now & really enjoyed it so if you haven't watched it yet then I highly recommend doing so as it's one of the best marvel films out there.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Not as good as the first film
The gorgeous Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Viola Davis, John Cena & many others star in this film in which a government agent employs the ruthless skills of some imprisoned super villains on the promise of reduced sentences should they be mission successful when they are sent on a do or die mission into the jungle to destroy a laboratory. If you like violent anti hero films & you're into the D. C. franchise then you might like this so you should watch it if you haven't already but for me personally I didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first film starring Will Smith so I probably wouldn't watch it again.
Barbarian (2022)
Too weird
Justin Long stars in this very weird film whereby his character who is an entrepreneurial actor is accused of a serious sexual crime & must consider selling some of the properties he owns in order to cover his legal bills but when he visits one of them he uncovers a labyrinth of underground tunnels & rooms in which is lurking a strange creature with both a nurturing & murderous nature who can go outside when the sun goes down, he then has to try & rescue a woman who has rented the property from him & survived her encounter with the creature thus far. The film starts out ok & you think it's going to be a good serial killer type film but it soon takes a turn for the worse so I wouldn't recommend watching it to be honest as there are far better films than this to watch.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Classic marvel film
Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio Del Toro amongst many others star in this classic marvel film about a young boy who is beamed up to a spacecraft after his mother dies of cancer & then many years later is arrested & imprisoned for trying to steal an orb containing an infinity stone after which he must team up with Drax the destroyer, groot, rocket raccoon & Gamora in order to stop the evil Ronan & thanos from obtaining the orb in order for them to be able to use it to impose their evil will on the universe. I quite liked this film although I preferred the sequel but I'd definitely recommend watching it if you haven't already as it's a must see for any marvel fan!
Bottoms (2023)
Couldn't get into it
NFL legend Marshawn Lynch & Ayo Edebiri star in this film about a couple of lesbian high school girls who start up a fight club in the name of female empowerment but in reality it's so they can meet new girls to try & get laid. The film has some slight humour to it especially in reference to the snowflake millennial generation & I loved the scene where the high school football team quarterback falls over like he's been shot after having his legs barely brushed against by a car in which his girlfriend is during a lover's tiff, I thought that was hilarious & very accurate but apart from that & Cindy Crawford's beautiful daughter being in it there wasn't really anything else about the film that I found interesting or fun or that held my attention so for that reason if you haven't watched it yet then I would recommend not bothering as it's not very good at all.
The Nice Guys (2016)
Seen better, seen worse
Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Keith David & Kim Basinger star in this film set in the late 70's about a young woman who goes into hiding after making an adult film in which is proof that her high ranking government official mom is doing dirty deals with organised crime resulting in the criminals trying to hunt her down to kill her & when a private detective starts to pursue her she then hires someone to rough him up & warn him but when the rough nut & private detective discover what's going on they try to protect the young woman & bring to life the truth about what's going on. The film wasn't bad & if you've not seen it yet then I'd say it's worth watching but it's nothing special although it does have it's funny moments & there are some stunning half naked women in it which is always a good thing!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Better than the first film in my opinion, I liked it!
An all star cast including Kurt Russell, Chris Pratt, Michael Rooker, Dave Bautista & many others star in this sequel where we see the guardians pursued by aliens who hired them to guard some batteries from invaders until Rocket then steals some & we also meet Quill's dad, Ego, who tries to win over Quill pretending he wants to build a relationship with Quill & make up for being absent his whole life but Quill soon finds out he has ulterior motives & is using him to help him take over the universe so he can control everything but the final straw comes when Quill finds out Ego was responsible for his mom's death & so the guardians make it their mission to stop him in his tracks! I wasn't sure I was going to like this as I wasn't so keen on the first film but I really liked it & preferred it to the first film so if you haven't watched it yet then I recommend you do so, I think you'll like it.
Black Panther (2018)
Absolutely awesome! Wakanda forever!
The late, great Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett & Andy Serkis amongst others star in this marvel epic about the heir to the throne of Wakanda who must return home & take his rightful place as king & black panther after the death of his father but when his kingdom becomes threatened by several enemies he must then rally the tribes of Wakanda together & prepare for war especially after his throne is taken by someone ruthless connected to his past who is hell bent on exacting the revenge he feels he deserves! This is hands down one of my all time favourite marvel films of all time & if you haven't watched it yet then I highly recommend doing so as it's an absolutely awesome story!
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Better than I thought it would be, I really liked it!
Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant & Bradley Cooper star in this fantasy adventure film about an imprisoned peacekeeper who escapes prison not realising he's been pardoned anyway & he assembles a team consisting of a barbarian, an amateur sorcerer, a con artist & others as they attempt to make a better life for themselves by thieving but when they attempt to steal the tablet of reawakening so the peacekeeper can bring his dead wife back to life, the peacekeeper & barbarian are captured & imprisoned whilst the con artist runs off with the loot leaving them to rot & so when the peacekeeper & barbarian get free they ambark on a journey together with the amateur sorcerer to find the backstabbing con artist who has turned the peacekeeper's daughter against him with lies & deceit. I wasn't expecting to like this film but really enjoyed it, it's a very creative & fun fantasy adventure & if you haven't seen it yet then I highly recommend watching it.
The Covenant (2023)
A Guy Ritchie epic!
Jake Gyllenhaal, Alexander Ludwig & Jonny Lee Miller star in this awesome film about the brotherhood between a U. S. Army sergeant & his Afghani interpreter. When the soldiers unit uncovers a taliban bomb making facility & come under fire, the sergeant & his interpreter are the only ones who escape with their lives but then as they are pursued by the enemy the sergeant is badly wounded & so his interpreter must get him to safety by any means necessary as they try to avoid many encounters with the taliban hunting them. After getting the sergeant to safety, the interpreter must then go on the run & protect his family from the taliban who want him dead whilst in the meantime the army sergeant is recovering back home after which he has to fight to get visa's for the interpreter & his family so they can rightly live in the safety of the United States after which the sergeant must then go back to Afghanistan to rescue his interpreter & his family as they are again ruthlessly pursued by the enemy who will stop at nothing to get them. This is one of the best films I've seen & if you haven't watched it yet then I highly recommend you do so, it's a great story of true brotherhood.
Silo (2023)
Slow & confusing
Starring the likes of Tim Robbins, Will Patton, Iain Glenn & Common amongst others this is the story of a community of people who live in an underground silo that is hundreds of stories deep who seem to be there because of an apocalyptic incident that occurred over a hundred years earlier but when some residents start to question if what they're being told is true & some inquisitive residents start to discover certain things then they are banished & sent outside to find out for themselves if the outside is really a post apocalyptic wasteland or if it's really a plush, green healthy beautiful planet which would mean that for some reason then they were being lied to in order to keep them in the silo. I thought that this had potential as it had some well known people starring in it but unfortunately I found the story too slow to unfold & way too confusing to hold my interest, it leaves you in suspense so you tune in for the next season but to be honest I don't think I'll bother & so I wouldn't recommend watching this unless you're very patient & don't mind waiting for the next season for the story to possibly unfold to finally give you answers.
The Menu (2022)
Very peculiar
Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, John Leguizamo & Nicholas Hoult star in this strange film about a group of well to do people who are invited to eat at a lavish restaurant on a remote island but when they arrive they find a very strange chef who seems to have some sort of vendetta on all but one of the guests & as he feels they fail to appreciate his culinary brilliance & art then he has decided that everyone in the restaurant must die & that the unappreciative guests are going to be the piece de resistance on the menu. To be honest I didn't really enjoy watching this film as I thought it was very strange & didn't really make any sense & so for that reason I would recommend giving it a miss.
