Joan of Arc (1999)
eeeeh
I cannot fathom some of the glowing reviews this film is receiving. I really, really, REALLY didn't like this movie at all. Don't get me wrong, I've always found Joan of Arc to be a fascinating historical figure. But why on earth did she have to be portrayed like someone on *****? More than anything, I'm just disappointed at this film for the way it was made. I feel that there was so much more that could have been done, but the lousy dialogue and poor directing just made seeing this film a bad experience.
Event Horizon (1997)
Ugh.
I consider myself a fan of horror and sci-fi movies, so when I went into the theater to watch this movie, I had good expectations for this film.
Nice visual effects, and a few moments of crude humor, but it is overshadowed by the appalling lack of quality in the plot. In fact, other than Batman & Robin, no other movie has made me want to go to the box office and demand a refund.
I cannot imagine that anyone would want to see this movie a second time, much less own it on video or DVD. Save your time and your money and watch something more worthwhile (of which there's plenty).
Batman & Robin (1997)
Ick.
Before I go on, I will acknowledge that perhaps Warner Bros. wanted to appeal to a wider audience. I know that a lot of kids enjoyed the movie and I can respect that.
However, I am quite certain that those children who enjoyed this movie could have been just as, if not more entertained by a better-made Batman film that didn't insult the general public's intelligence.
There are no words that exist in the English language that can express just how awful this movie was. I regret that I spent $7.25 and about two hours, which I will never get back, to watch this movie. Even the Batman animated series has far more quality and intelligence than this waste of $100 million. Hell, I'd say the same for the Batman TV series with Adam West.
I don't even know why anyone would want to rent or buy this movie on video. If you have a copy of this video (or DVD), do not toss it aside lightly. Instead, throw it with great force, preferably into an incinerator. The world will be a better place for it.
