Lest We Forget (1937)
Lest We Forget
This was a promotional film that not only honored the passing of Will Rogers but announced to the theater audience about the TB Sanatorium in Saranac Lake, NY. It was now being renamed from the National Vaudeville Lodge to the Will Rpgers Memorial Hospital though not mentioned in this PSA. This PSA was played at theaters asking for donations so that the Hospital could continue.
Very well done.
The Snake Pit (1948)
A great film that few people know about
Even though this is about a Mental Institute in the 40's, the mental illnesses suffered are still very much real today. I have only seen this movie twice but the plot draws you in every time. "Goin' Home" just puts into the words what a Patient in a Mental Institution wishes but can not always express. I feel that this film has been forgotten because the story line is still taboo even today. The acting is brilliant and the "Snake Pit" scenes visually expresses the hopelessness of the being in such an institution. The flashbacks help the audience bond with this movie. Even when one ends up in such a place, there is still a glimmer of sanity lock away inside. A kind voice, gentle understanding can do so much more than just trying to restrain a patient.
