October Baby (2011)
The Fillm Liverals Do Not Want you to See
This film is a well done and extremely emotional viewpoint from the Conservative side of the abortion argument. It is being buried by the Main Stream Liberal Media and it is truly a shame.
Rachel Hendrix gives what should be a star making performance in the same manner that Jennifer Lawrence did in "Winter's Bone," and yet she is not receiving any true notice.
The film is flawed, but that is true of many films. It is one-sided but that is the choice of the film makers. Aren't all films basically the opinion of the directors and the producers? Isn't that the whole point of film making. In this case, a specific viewpoint was adopted and displayed in a very intelligent and emotion way. It gave the viewer the ride that good film making is supposed to do.

The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Big Disappointment
I was very upset with this film and felt that the whole idea behind this movie was to take my money now and six months from now. The plot was completely non-existent and the special effects looked fake.
I don't want to go into any detail about the story because I still believe there wasn't one and I don't want to spoil it for anyone else that is going to see it yet. At the screening I was at, about 20 people left the theater after the action sequence where NEO was fighting with the dozens of Mr. Smith's. I felt like leaving too, but I don't like wasting my money and I was hoping it would get better.
The freeway chase was a major waste of money and looked incredibly fake. I didn't buy into any of it.
Now, let's talk about the sex scene with the hip hop dance sequence. Did anybody enjoy that? What did it have to do with anything?
The acting was subpar all around. Keanu was up to his usual unemotional self. Laurence Fishbourne was flat and Carrie Moss was just there for what reason I don't know.
Lastly, the meeting with "The Oracle," just didn't make sense.
I gave this movie a 2 instead of a 1 because of the money spent. Maybe I should change it to a one after writing this.
The Rules of Attraction (2002)
Garbage
When are people going to learn that movies are entertainment. This movie was neither entertaining or thought provoking. It is true garbage and anyone that feels otherwise is kidding themselves. It's one thing when we are forced to sit through a depressing holocaust movie, because it's educational. It's another thing to sit through this. I walked out during the suicide scene and many other people did as well. No one laughed during the whole movie and anyone that thinks this is a comedy of sorts, is not thinking like a normal human being.
That being said, the performances were very good, as was the lighting. I can't think of anything else good to say, so I will stop before I write more bad.
Men in Black II (2002)
Bad, Bad, Bad
As bad, if not worse, than "Ishtar," "Howard the Duck," and "Town & Country." I'm not surprised they only had 88 minutes when they were done. (Of course that includes six minutes of end titles.) The post office scene was especially bad. This should be the stinker of the summer.
Holy Smoke (1999)
Shameful
In the tradition of Ed Wood, this film is so bad that the audience continually cracked up at various sequences. This was especially true when the love Keitel had for Winslet became apparent and he began chasing her up the hill.
The comic relief became even more apparent when Keitel had the vision of the three Indian women singing to him. It was like watching high "camp" that had no intention of remaining that way.
Further, Ms. Winslet, one of the most talented actresses of her generation should think twice about continuing to take roles like this. She had the capability and opportunity to be a major force in the movie business. Now, she will just be considered another actor.
Lastly, I hope Hollywood realizes the wool that Jane Campion has pulled over it's eyes. There are many people within the community that believed "The Piano" was a case of "The Emporer's New Clothes." Now, I'm sure everyone will realize that this women has no talent. Maybe it will be a long time before she makes another piece of trash like this.
Bringing Out the Dead (1999)
Piece of Garbage
I have just witnessed this movie at a special screening and must state for the record that Mr. Scorcese, who is one of my favorite all time director's, should be ashamed of himself.
This film has absolutely no script, no story, no acting and no style. It is one of the most boring things that I have seen this year. And, it should be considered that this is one of the worst years for movies in the last ten.
I can not believe that the man who gave us "Mean Streets", "Taxi Driver", "Raging Bull", and "Good Fellows", wasted his time on this. Especially when he has "Dino", in the works and "Dino", does not get made.
At the end of the day, after almost two hours of nonsense, we are asked to believe that these two loser characters end up together. At the screening I was out, a member of the audience said, "And they lived happily ever after." At this point, the audience laughed hysterically.
The only thing redeeming about this movie was the performance of Ving Rhames who again came through in the clutch. Unfortunately, he could not save it.
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Sorrowful Conclusion
Most people would like their careers or their lives to end with a bang. Unfortunately, for Mr. Kubrick, this is not the case. His career is ending with a whimper. A sorrowful display that almost no one will understand, if they even manage to get through it without falling asleep.
The acting in most of the scenes is over the top as is the direction and lighting. It's almost as if Mr. Kubrick was trying to poke fun at his own style and technique. At times, I felt that I was watching, "The Shining" or "A Clockwork Orange."
Also, from a technical standpoint, the picture is flawed. When did you see a major studio release allow crew and/or equipment to appear in frame?
All in all, this is an embarrassment to Mr. Kubrick and to its two leading actors, who happen to be two of my favorites.
American Pie (1999)
Funnier than "Animal House" or "Something About Mary."
This movie is one of the funniest movies ever made. The writing is absolutely outstanding. Each joke is carefully set up early in the script and paid off at the proper time.
Although, not for everyone because of the theme and execution, this film will go down as one of the funniest movies ever made. No longer will "Porky's" be considered the king of gross out, youth movies.
This is just more proof that 50 million dollars and bankable cast is necessary for a theatrical release. All it takes is talent and originality.
Summer of Sam (1999)
Powerful Drama with great acting
For those of us who lived through the summer of '77 in New York, this movie brings back both painful and joyous memories. The backdrop of the summer and the 44 Caliber killer give a great slice of life to those who have lived in the five boroughs.
The depiction of the Italian neighborhood, although not always complimentary, is fairly accurate. As are the contrasts between the up and coming disco generation and the punk movement.
However, I don't believe the violence at the end of the film was necessary to truly convey the fears caused by the Son of Sam. It added an aspect of horror that did not complement the rest of the film.
The acting, especially, Mira Sorvino, John Leguizamo and Jeniffer Esposito was outstanding. As were the supporting roles played by Bebe Neuwirth and Ben Gazzara.
This film is a must see for those looking for some realism in the time of all the summer fantasy movies.
Wild Wild West (1999)
Waste of Time
Just another example of Hollywood excess gone for naught. This film is so bad that anyone who pays to see it should have their head examined. I'm sorry but sometimes hollywood execs should spend 100 million dollars on five smaller movies than one extravagent piece of garbage.
Kevin Kline, who is one of my favorite actors, did not seem to care in this film. Did he just phone it in? As for the rest of the acting, well, Mr. Kline was the best.
There were so many problems with the film I cannot even list them here. The first of many was that the plot just never interested you. Then, the special effects didn't work either.
Oh well, I'm sure Will Smith will make a comeback and this will not effect his bankability.
Another Day in Paradise (1998)
Shameful
Everyone involved in this movie, except James Woods, should be ashamed of themselves. There are some scenes that are so bad, it's like amateur night. And, this includes the performances of the three principals besides Mr. Woods. In fact, if it weren't for Mr. Woods stellar performance, this film should have never been release.
Actually, even with Mr. Woods performance, this film should have never been made. What was Mark Amin thinking when he green-lit this picture (if he was the one)?
A Simple Plan (1998)
Almost There
This could have been a great movie, however, the holes in the plot were just too big to maintain the tension. For one, what was the motivation behind the wife's sudden change of attitude? At first she was totally against keeping the money and then she was the instigator in the whole affair. However, there was never any explanation of the change. Also, the simple solution would have been to turn the money in from the beginning. It is common knowledge that money that is not claimed after one year reverts to the finders.
Cube (1997)
Intriguing but vague
After viewing this movie, I felt that I had seen something to be remembered. But, after a few hours I realized that the plot was extremely flawed and left a lot to be desired. There really was no explanation for why they were in the cube and how they got there. Nor was there any rationality for the killing of the doctor. Why did the cop risk his own life to save her, only to drop her? There are many examples of this. Maybe the film maker did not have the answers and merely wanted to create and image and effect. I don't know, but whatever the reasoning, it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Next Stop Wonderland (1998)
Cute Romantic Comedy
This was a thoroughly enjoyable romantic comedy with a very inventive score which helped push the movie along.
My only two complaints with the movie were that the editing was a little too radical and the lighting was too dark for this type of movie. I would have been much happier if the editor had chosen to cut the movie in a more traditional way. There are a number of scenes where the jump cutting just got in the way of the dialogue and the story.
