There are regular true crime podcasts, and then there's "Happy Face," an endlessly disturbing 12-part deep dive into the life of a serial killer -- as told by his own daughter. The podcast from iHeartMedia first debuted in 2018, telling the harrowing story of the years Melissa Moore spent being raised by the man who would eventually become known as The Happy Face Killer. Now, a new Paramount+ series based on the same story is in the works with an intriguing cast and crew and Moore on board as an executive producer.
"Happy Face" will be the first true crime series released via the Paramount-owned streamer since 2020's "Interrogation," and only the second to date. While competing streamers like Peacock have been in the true crime adaptation game from the start (see: "Dr. Death"), Paramount+ has mostly made the "Yellowstone" extended universe its bread and butter up until this point.

While studying at the Warsaw Academy of Music, Tymoteusz (Tymoteusz Bies) returns to his hometown for a visit. Surrounded by his friends and younger brother Jacek (Jacek Bies), his group makes a beeline for the new kebab shop opened up by two Arabic immigrants. As tensions rise throughout the summer, Tymoteusz assesses where he stands in the gap between a familiar past and an ever-changing present.
It’s possibly fair to say that those rocking up to a mid-month film festival without much idea of what’s on the schedule might not be too au fait with Polish cinema. Classics such as Ida and Interrogation are heralded as worthy watches, yet the visual imagery of Polish culture instead often comes from BBC News clips of homophobic policies and immigrants who are despised by the Brits.

It seems like a lifetime ago, but in the early weeks of 2020, the then-named CBS All Access launched a show called “Interrogation.” The ten-episode season starred Peter Sarsgaard as a detective investigating a brutal murder where the accused killer was the woman’s son (Kyle Gallner). With a decent cast and a dour, decades-spanning saga, the idea was that viewers could share in the detective work and watch the show in any order they wanted. Following the clues at their convenience, they could hop around different years, suspects, and investigators to figure out what really happened that night in the early ‘80s.
Fast-forward a few years and the beginning of 2023 brings “Kaleidoscope,” a show that offers the same promise of TV-watching freedom, this time revolving around a massive ten-figure vault heist. Each episode is color-coded, offering any audience member a time-fragmented look at the lead-up to and the aftermath of the planned robbery.

The new series “Kaleidoscope,” premiering on Jan. 1, is intended to be viewed in any order, with its first seven episodes possible to scramble and remix however the viewer chooses ahead of a final installment. In this way, it seems to suggest itself in form as much as premiere date as ideal for a New Year’s Day binge. A perhaps gently hungover viewer may be coddled by the knowledge that viewing order doesn’t matter, and, for that matter, that pertinent information will be repeated as needed to make points clear.
“Kaleidoscope” has an interesting enough story at its center — the whirring of its random-episode design overlays a story of a daring heist undertaken as a sort of revenge by a master criminal (Giancarlo Esposito) and his crack team. The issue with “Kaleidoscope,” though, is that its design is less an ingenious way of moving storytelling forward than the sort of thing a creator,...

“Horizon Zero Dawn and Orbital are elevated, event-level projects grounded in characters that fans will love and relate to, which are hallmarks of Irish Cowboy productions,” said Blackman. “We’re thrilled to be working with Netflix and all of our...

Though the summer movie season is winding down (if it ever really started this year), Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for September 2021 is chock full of worthwhile movie options.
For starters, Amazon’s library movie titles are quite good this month. September 1 sees the arrivals of heavyweights such as Apollo 13, Arachnophobia, Romeo + Juliet, The Descent, and The Social Network. And if that weren’t enough, the streamer is trying out some intriguing original movies as well. Cinderella, a modern update on the classic fairy tale, premieres on September 3. That will be followed by “exotic thriller” The Voyeurs (Sept. 10), musical adaptation Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (Sept. 17), and French thriller The Mad Woman’s Ball (Sept. 17).

There are a lot of folks out there that are more than willing to state that Interrogation on CBS All Access has been canceled, but not a lot of them are going into any great detail as to why. The most obvious reasons that usually crop up are that not enough people were watching, meaning the ratings would plummet and the effort being put in just wasn’t worth it. Or it could be that there was a huge debate that resulted in ‘creative differences’. But as of now, it would appear that the show simply isn’t going to be showing

CBS All Access will not move forward with a second season of the experimental police drama “Interrogation,” the streaming service said Wednesday.
The 10-episode series centered on a case in which a young man was charged and convicted of brutally murdering his mother. The non-linear series was structured such that viewers were allowed to watch the episodes in any order, which CBS All Access billed as an opportunity for viewers to “follow the evidence like a cold case detective, abandon the linear narrative and determine their own investigative path.”

Fans may want to launch an “Interrogation” into why the CBS All Access series will not be returning.
The streamer has canceled the Peter Sarsgaard-led drama after only a single season, Variety has confirmed. News of the show’s demise comes around ten months after it first launched on All Access.
“Interrogation” was picked up back in late 2018 and hailed from co-creators by Anders Weidemann (“30 Degrees in February”) and John Mankiewicz (“House of Cards”). It was based on a true story that spanned more than 30 years, in which a young man was charged and convicted of brutally murdering his mother. Each episode was structured around an interrogation taken directly from the real police case files, and the episodes were made with the intention of allowing viewers to watch them in any order.

The script is based on Chandra Kumar’s fact-based novel “Lock Up” and is actually split in two distinct parts, to the point that if it was not for the same main characters, we could easily discuss about two different movies. In the first one Pandi, Murugan, Afzal, and Kumar are Tamil laborers who are working in Guntur, and living in a nearby park, with no roof under their heads, while working odd jobs to make ends meet.

David M. Rudy’s Armada Partners is expanding its ranks, adding Scot Reynolds, formerly an agent with Clear Talent Group, as a new manager. He is expected to begin officially at the company later this month.
“We have been looking for the right person to join Armada, not only on the talent representation side but also to be able to have a voice in the creative process as we continue to develop content,” said David M. Rudy, founder of Armada Partners. “Scot’s relationships and dedication to his clients were exactly what we wanted in a new team member and couldn’t be happier to have him make the transition to management.”
A graduate of Florida State University, Reynolds began his career at David Shapira & Associates in 2012 as an assistant before being promoted to junior agent and overseeing his own talent roster. In 2014, Reynolds moved to Ctg where he...

As of next year, Network 10’s streaming platform 10 All Access will be rebranded Paramount+, as part of global revamp by parent company ViacomCBS.
The move comes as ViacomCBS looks to establish a cohesive SVOD brand across all international markets – one that will compete with the likes of Netflix, Amazon and Disney+.
The company also announced today three new original series to stream on the service in Australia. These include Lioness, a spy drama created by Yellowstone‘s Taylor Sheridan; hour-long Showtime drama First Ladies, starring and EP’d by Viola Davis, playing Michelle Obama, and 10-part limited series The Offer, based on producer Al Ruddy’s experiences of making The Godfather.
Sheridan will EP Lioness with Jill Wagner, David Glasser, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari. Based on a real CIA program, it will follow a young Marine recruited to befriend the daughter of a terrorist to bring the organization down from within.

If you're of a liberal mind and a Trump hater, you should find something to love in HBO's adaptation of Paul Rudnick's play, which was expected to go into production this year, but, well, Covid.

Peter Sarsgaard is set as a series regular opposite Michael Keaton in Dopesick, an eight-episode limited series based on Beth Macy’s bestselling book. Barry Levinson is set to direct the project, which hails from Empire co-creator/exec producer Danny Strong, The Handmaid’s Tale executive producer Warren Littlefield and Touchstone Television.
Written by Strong and slated to premiere in 2021, Dopesick is described as an ambitious, harrowing and compelling look into the epicenter of America’s struggle with opioid addiction. Actor Frank Whaley accused Jon Voight of slapping him across the face on the set of Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” in a tweet Monday, providing a picture of the two men on set standing opposite each other during the alleged incident that appears to show Voight’s hand in the air.
“F— Jon Voight. On Ray Donovan he slapped me across the face in the middle of a scene because he couldn’t keep up, then denied doing it,” Whaley tweeted. “He forgot about the still photographer who was on set. Bottom line: Jon Voight is a major dick. #RNCConvention2020.”
Reps for Voight, Whaley and Showtime did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment Tuesday.
Whaley appeared in seven episodes of the Showtime crime drama during its first season in 2013, in which he played the character Van Miller.
