Hollywood star Ben Kingsley is poised to reprise the role of Trevor Slattery in the upcoming ‘Wonder Man’ series from Marvel Studios at Disney+. The show was first revealed to be in the works back in June. It will focus on the Marvel character Simon Williams, also known as Wonder Man, reports Variety.
In the comics, Williams is the son of a wealthy industrialist whose company falls on hard times due to competition from Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. Williams then accepts an offer from villain Baron Zemo that gives him ionic superpowers including super strength and durability. After fighting the Avengers several times, Wonder Man ultimately joined their ranks.
Kingsley returning as Slattery lends credence to reports that the show is intended to be a Hollywood satire, as it has been established that Slattery is a failed actor and Wonder Man has been an actor and a stuntman in the comics.

“Godfather of Harlem,” starring Forest Whitaker, has been renewed for a second season at Epix.
Production on the 10-episode second season, created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, will begin production in New York later in 2020.
“’Godfather of Harlem’ season one was a remarkable success, tripling previous viewership numbers for the network and earning acclaim from both critics and viewers alike,” said Epix president Michael Wright. “We couldn’t wait to reunite with Chris, Paul, Forest and the team at ABC Signature to continue telling this compelling and extremely relevant story.”
The series centers around a story inspired by infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from eleven years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy must take on the Genovese crime family to regain control.

Premium network Epix on Saturday unveiled its scripted and unscripted development slate for 2020 and beyond. The slate was announced at TCA by Epix President Michael Wright. The network is coming off the debuts of the first series ordered by Wright, docuseries Elvis Goes There and Punk; and scripted dramas Perpetual Grace, Ltd, Pennyworth and Godfather of Harlem. Of the dramas, Batman-themed Pennyworth already has been renewed for a second season while Godfather of Harlem has been a major breakout hit for the network.
It includes A Column Of Fire, a series adaptation of Ken Follett’s Elizabethan-era novel, a followup to The Pillars of the World and World Without End, both of which have been turned into limited series.
Also on the slate is The Winter King, a series adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s trilogy of Arthurian novels, from the producing team at Bad Wolf.
Producer/writer/director Edward Burns is behind Gibson Station, a dramedy set in 1984.
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Jackson Browne is executive producing music docuseries Songs That Changed the World, directed by Emmy winner Thom Zimny.
Here are details about the projects on Epix’s slate:
The Winter King (scripted)
From the acclaimed producing team at Bad Wolf comes this drama series adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s trilogy of Arthurian novels, The Warlord Chronicles.
Gibson Station (scripted)
From producer/writer/director Edward Burns, this dramedy set in 1984 revolves around three 20-something best friends setting out to pursue their dreams and seek out their place in Ronald Reagan’s America.
A Column Of Fire (scripted)
Based on the novel by international best-selling author Ken Follett, this Elizabethan-era drama, which debuted at #1 in multiple countries around the world, follows the romance between Ned Willard and Margery Fitzgerald beginning in 1558 and spanning half a century of political intrigue and turmoil. A Column of Fire is written by Lizzie Mickery and produced by Snowed-In Productions and Sony Pictures Television. Snowed-In Productions Ruth Kenley-Letts, and Mickery are Executive Producers.
Fall River (docuseries)
1979 – Fall River, Ma – home to the notorious Lizzie Borden, three young women were killed in a series of brutal murders. Police alleged a satanic cult was practicing human sacrifice. The cult leader, a man named Carl Drew, was captured and sent to prison for life without parole. Twenty years after the trial, the lead investigator became so haunted by inconsistencies in the stories that he re-investigated his own case after he retired. Evidence surfaced bringing the entire story into question. This documentary series will tell shocking true story of a town caught in the grips of the Satanic Panic, with new witnesses and evidence that shed light on murders that were thought to have been solved. Fall River is produced by Blumhouse Television and Pyramid Productions. James Buddy Day serves as executive producer and director.
Fiasco (docuseries)
From the creators of Slow Burn comes a new podcast documentary about politics, power, and uncertainty. Season One of Fiasco will tell the story of the contested 2000 election between Al Gore and George W. Bush, and the extraordinary legal battle that followed in Florida. Fiasco is produced by Neyfakh’s Prologue Projects and Luminary Media, LLC. Neyfakh, Steven Fisher and Andrew Parsons serve as executive producers, along with Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver for Left/Right Productions, a Red Arrow Studios company.
Songs That Changed The World (docuseries)
Directed by Emmy Award winner Thom Zimny and executive produced by acclaimed singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, this four-part doc series looks into those transcendent moments when music was able to do what no other social force could: speak to our minds, hearts and souls and lead us to higher ground…and in so doing transform us…whether we knew we needed to or not. In addition to Zimny and Browne, Armyan Bernstein (for Beacon Pictures) will executive produce.

Forest Whitaker is the sort of star seemingly built to make the leap to television: He’s a decorated leading man whose subtlety of approach and whose commitment to delicate, unusual acting choices would seem to potentially play even better on the small screen. After stints on various network shows, Whitaker finally gets his showcase in “Godfather of Harlem,” a new Epix hourlong series set in the political ferment of the early 1960s. And, through his recessive and quiet charisma, he provides the strongest case for the series.
Like others of Epix’s recent series, including “Pennyworth” and “Perpetual Grace, Ltd.”, “Godfather of Harlem” has a strong popcorn element: It’s aiming more for extreme watchability than for prestige. Which makes it a compelling fit for Whitaker, who, as the career criminal Bumpy Johnson, recently freed from prison, returns to Harlem to rule his domain with quiet, seething power. The...

Jimmi Simpson will play a key role in “Unhinged,” Variety has learned.
He joins an impressive cast that includes Oscar-winner Russell Crowe and Caren Pistorius. Solstice Studios is producing the psychological thriller, which is currently filming in New Orleans.
“Unhinged” centers on a woman named Rachel (Pistorius), who leans on her horn at the wrong time, with the wrong driver (Crowe). According to the logline, “‘Road rage’ doesn’t begin to describe what he’s about to do to her and everyone she knows.”
Simpson is best known for his work on “House of Cards” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” as well as for his Emmy Award nominated turn on “Westworld.” He is currently starring opposite Sir Ben Kingsley and Jacki Weaver in “Perpetual Grace, Ltd” and recently finished production on Tate Taylor’s “Breaking News in Yuba County” alongside Allison Janney, Regina Hall, and Mila Kunis. MGM-owned premium cable network Epix has, for a few years, been working to define itself as an outlet for original programming. Their latest attempt, “Perpetual Grace, Ltd.,” seeks the audience’s favor by cloaking itself both the familiar. The show’s cast includes familiar faces like Jimmi Simpson of “Westworld,” Terry O’Quinn of “Lost,” and Oscar nominees Sir Ben Kingsley and Jacki Weaver; its giddy amorality-in-the-American-sticks formula seems borrowed from “Ozark,” which itself owes a debt to “Breaking Bad.” Little here feels new, and it’s not a skillful enough pastiche to demand you find Epix on your dial.
Simpson plays a con artist who seeks to ensnare a pair of religious leaders who seem like easy marks; he plans to have them kidnapped so that he can pretend to be their son and enrich himself with their life insurance. While Simpson’s James easily meshes into this...

Epix describes its upcoming 10-part series “Perpetual Grace, Ltd” as a “modern noir drama.” But Jimmi Simpson’s way of pitching the show, which also stars Ben Kingsley and Jacki Weaver, might offer you just a little more insight into what’s in store for viewers who tune in for the premiere this Sunday. Or possibly make it even less clear, but more intriguing.
“It’s like a stylized ‘The City of Lost Children.’ And then it pauses and tells you about love and how real it is. It just lands, too,” the “Westworld” alum told TheWrap during an interview at the Television Critics Association press tour in February.
Ok, let’s rewind so you understand a little better why Simpson is comparing “Perpetual Grace” to a 1995 sci-fi, surrealist film starring Ron Perlman, which tells the story of a scientist who kidnaps children to steal their dreams, in hopes that they slow his aging process.

If the last few decades of entertainment history has taught us two things, it’s that you shouldn’t mess with a character played by Ben Kingsley and you really shouldn’t mess with a character played by Jacki Weaver. The core of “Perpetual Grace, Ltd” is watching one would-be grifter discover these empirical truths for himself.
Jimmi Simpson plays James, a wandering con man who stumbles on a pair of potential prey he couldn’t have accounted for: Ma (Weaver) and Pa (Kingsley). As the husband and wife leaders of a church, the two have been perpetuating an extensive scheme of their own by slowly pilfering money from their parishioners for years.

MGM announced this week that it expects a 40% decline in earnings in 2019 as it invests in its Epix Now streaming service.
The company said in February that it would launch Epix Now at $5.99 per month, joining other premium channels that have already rolled out over-the-top services. In order to attract subscribers, Epix is rolling out a slate of original programming to accompany its traditional movie offerings.
MGM co-founded Epix with Viacom and Lionsgate in 2008, and bought out the other two partners in a $1 billion deal in 2017. In an earnings call on Tuesday, MGM executives said Epix is projected to lose $50 million to $70 million this year as MGM invests in content to grow the service.
The delay of “Bond 25” to April 2020 has also put a damper on this year’s projections. The next installment of the Bond franchise was initially set to debut in November 2019, but was pushed back when...
