The upcoming Venice Film Festival is shaping up to be a star-studded affair with Lady Gaga, Joaquin Phoenix, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Gal Gadot and Ana de Armas among top Hollywood talents likely to be launching high-profile titles from the Lido.
Though festival chief Alberto Barbera has yet to see several submitted works that are likely to make the cut, a clutch of globally buzzy movies have already secured a coveted Venice berth, though some of the more mainstream entries will probably be bowing out-of-competition.
“Joker 2: Folie à Deux,” Todd Phillips’ edgy musical sequel to his 2019 Golden Lion prizewinning “Joker,” starring Gaga and Phoenix, is a competition shoo-in, along with Pablo Larraín’s Maria Callas biopic “Maria,” starring Jolie in the title role.

Winston Duke emerged as one of the standouts of both Black Panther movies thanks to his memorable take on M'Baku, and by all accounts, the actor is also a major highlight of The Fall Guy.
Duke has yet to establish himself as a Hollywood leading man, but all it takes is the right role, and the actor has set his sights on what will likely be the most sought-after part in Hollywood down the line.
During an interview with /Film, Duke was asked about the possibility of suiting up as The Dark Knight in the upcoming Dcu Batman reboot, The Brave and the Bold, after previously voicing Bruce Wayne in the Batman Unburied podcast.
"Listen, man, can you start that [campaign]? [Laughs] I would say I challenge you to get on all these socials and push for me. Get your community. I would love to. I would love to do that as Batman.

Jonathan Nolan wrote The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises alongside his brother (after contributing to Batman Begins), filmmaker Christopher Nolan, and he's since shifted focus to small screen projects like Westworld and Fallout.
Christopher has said on multiple occasions that he's done with Batman, while Christian Bale has vowed to only return if the director does. As a result, we've come to accept this trilogy ended in 2012 and will be left alone.
However, in a new interview, Jonathan has made it clear he'd be open to returning to the Caped Crusader's world...even if his brother would take some convincing.
"Wouldn't that be a dream," he said. "That period was about 10 years of my life, from when I got the call to work on Batman Begins in 2003 to putting out The Dark Knight Rises In 2012 and it was epic."

Whenever it comes to the Dcau, fans often look back to Bruce Timm’s masterful work on Batman: The Animated Series, which by many is still considered the peak of the caped crusader. However, the Dcau isn’t just limited to Btas, as there have been several different interpretations of the iconic character in the realm of animation, with one of them being The Batman.
Not to be confused with Matt Reeves’ The Batman, The Batman Animated Series was a fun reimagining of Batman and its coterie of supervillains, which scored well critically throughout its run. One thing that fans found odd about the show was the introduction of Batgirl as Bruce’s first sidekick, but the writers can’t be blamed for this decision.

When Johnny Depp praised and thanked his Jeanne du Barry director for giving him a chance when nearly no other filmmaker would, it showed genuine appreciation. But then director Maïwenn seemed to betray her star, giving an interview in The Independent that painted Depp as “scary” on the set and Maïwenn as disloyal. Now, Maïwenn is trying to right the wrongs ahead of the film’s North American release next week.
Speaking with Variety, Maïwenn said that her quotes about Johnny Depp had been misrepresented. “When I made a remark about Johnny being ‘scary,’ I was talking about his charisma, his notoriety, his star status, etc… was shocked when I discovered that the newspaper had headlined that ‘The crew were afraid of [Johnny Depp]’ because written like that, and without its context and subtleties, it absolutely no longer means the same thing. Andy Muschietti has been confirmed as the director for The Brave and The Bold. The filmmaker is fresh off The Flash, which received a solid rotten tomatoes score. Though The Flash wasn’t the commercial success that Warner Brothers Discovery hoped it would be, Muschietti has a good track record for mainstream films. However, it’ll be some time before James Gunn’s Batman finally makes an appearance as all eyes are currently on Superman: Legacy. The opportunity to do something fresh and unique with the masked hero makes James Gunn’s Batman so exciting. There are many incarnations of Batman, including Matt Reeves’

James Gunn’s DC Studios has just green-lit a Teen Titans movie and fans are not exactly sure how to make up their mind. On one hand, the prospect of a film featuring characters from the earlier animated TV show is exciting for some fans. However, on the other, many DC fans worry that Gunn is repeating the same old mistakes committed by Zack Snyder’s Dceu. Fans criticized DC’s move to announce new projects, while the already announced slate awaits development updates.

Although it seemed like the Dceu was down for the count after the theatrical release of Justice League in 2017, the universe found more solid footing in several films afterward. However, one thread they didn’t get to pick up on was the tease of Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke in the post-credits scene in which Jesse Eisenberg returned as Lex Luthor and proposed a league of their own. The Dceu has officially concluded with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and James Gunn’s reign with his Dcu will be kickstarting with Superman: Legacy.
However, ComicBook.com reveals that Manganiello now has a new opportunity to continue his Slade Wilson incarnation despite the Dceu being dissolved. When Affleck’s in-universe version of The Batman fell through, in which Deathstroke was set to appear as the main antagonist, Manganiello wrote his own Deathstroke screenplay, which reportedly was well-received at Warner Bros. before the big studio shake-up.

It seems that the decision to cancel Superman & Lois after its fourth season was influenced by James Gunn’s DC Universe, particularly Superman: Legacy. Brad Schwartz, the president of The CW, shared insights into the show’s conclusion at the Television Critics Association event. He explained that the series was brought to an end due to Warner Bros.
Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in Superman and Lois
Considering DC Studios’ efforts to establish a unified DC Universe, the cancellation may not come as a complete surprise. With DC Studios aiming for a unified DC cinematic universe, it’s understandable that having different Superman portrayals across TV and film could get confusing. Based on the 1976 novel of the same name, Confess, Fletch manages to take the bones and tone of a comic murder-mystery and create something as charming as its protagonist. Gregory Mcdonald wrote 15 novels in the series, including two sets of spin-offs. Though the first novel was filmed back in 1985, the second took decades to come to the screen. That despite there already having been a sequel, one written specifically for the screen.
Mcdonald had other works adapted to film including Running Scared and Johnny Depp's directorial debut The Brave. Recurrent themes of murder, suicide, and bad deals abound. Noir-ish in intent, Confess, Fletch occupies a conspiratorial hinterland that'd be familiar to Chandler or Hammett or in some of the finer things the work of Fleming. When Fletch says "I'm an open book" he's got form.
We start as the text does, with a murder. Not one that's...

‘Development Hell’ is the metaphorical phrase used in Hollywood whenever a project gets cleared to be made by a big studio but then takes years (potentially decades) to make. Deadpool was a classic case of this and thanks to Ryan Reynolds and Marvel the movie has already become one of the greatest cult classics of all time. The Flash was another case, with the original idea for the film coming all the way back in 2014 – unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as though The Flash will be making quite the same impact that a movie like Deadpool did.
Despite the negative feedback so far from audiences and critics and disastrous box office results, there’s no denying that The Flash has shaken things up a bit in the DC cinematic universe and has given fans a lot of questions moving forward. After all, the new Dcu headed by James Gunn is...

Currently in pre-production, with casting in progress, shooting will commence later this year ahead of a 2024 premiere on TV Joj.

As James Gunn and Peter Safran take the DC Universe in a new direction and casting is underway for Superman: Legacy, speculation for who the next Batman in The Brave and the Bold has grown.
Fans of the superhero genre have thrown out names for who they want the next Bruce Wayne to be and Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles recently addressed rumors he was up for the role.
“Uh, I don’t know. Even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell you,” Ackles at the Jus In Bello Convention in Italy. “I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it? Yes.”
Ackles joked that Pedro Pascal would probably get the part adding, “Will I be mad when Pedro Pascal gets it? Yeah. God bless you, Pedro. You just keep killing it, buddy. Let me know when you pass on something.”
He continued, “Look, right now nobody’s talking about anything.

This article contains major spoilers for The Flash.
Holy revolving door, Batman! The Caped Crusader has been portrayed by more actors on the big screen than any other superhero in history. Most of them have lasted for just one film. After The Dark Knight Rises, Christian Bale became the first man to have played Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego more than twice on the silver screen. He didn’t have much competition – Michael Keaton was the only other actor to reprise the role at the time.
But Ben Affleck has now beat Bale for appearances as Batman on the big screen due to his return in The Flash movie, making that fourth time Affleck has donned the cape and cowl. Sure, these aren’t movies starring the Caped Crusader but they still count! Meanwhile, Keaton ties Bale for three appearances, with a much heftier role in The Flash than Affleck.

Johnny Depp is making good on the promise to donate his $1 million payment in his defamation case against Amber Heard to charity. As per People, a source said that Depp will divide the $1 million into five equal $200,000 donations to Make-a-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and Amazonia Fund Alliance.
A statement on behalf of Johnny Depp regarding his payout from the Amber Heard case read in part: “The payment of $1M – which Mr. Depp is pledging and will (actually) donate to charities – reinforces Ms. Heard’s acknowledgement of the conclusion of the legal system’s rigorous pursuit for justice.”
Despite Amber Heard settling the lawsuit in December, she says it was not an admission of guilt in the Johnny Depp trial. “It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed.

Johnny Depp has played Cannes many times, with four of his films in Competition: “Dead Man” and “Ed Wood” (both 1995), “The Brave,” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” (1998), but he’s never had this much at stake on the Croisette. As the randy King Louis Xv, powdered and wigged in the opening-night Out of Competition selection “Jeanne du Barry,” Depp will begin his latest effort at career rehab.
Depp, who will be 60 in a few weeks, is well past his movie-star prime and remains in recovery from a string of court cases. Depp lost his “wife-beater” U.K. libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard in 2020, but last June he won $10 million in compensatory damages in a U.S. court. Warner Bros. paid his $16 million fee for the third “Fantastic Beasts” film, but asked him to resign from playing the role of Grindelwald in the Harry Potter franchise. (Mads Mikkelsen replaced him.

“Modi” producer Barry Navidi has worked with Pacino on several previous films, including a 2004 adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” and Pacino’s directorial debut, an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s “Salomé” also starring Jessica Chastain.

Before returning to the silver screen for Maïwenn’s Jeanne du Barry, Johnny Depp is ready to announce his first directorial effort in 25 years for Modi, a biopic focusing on the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. Inspired by a play by Dennis McIntyre and adapted for Hollywood by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski, Modi tells the story of the famous painter and sculptor during his time in Paris in 1916.
Riccardo Scamarcio (John Wick: Chapter 2), Pierre Niney (Yves Saint Laurent), and Al Pacino lead the cast, with filming going down in Budapest this fall. The Veterans will bring the project to Cannes for a potential sale.
According to Deadline, Modi chronicles a harrowing 48 hours of Amedeo Modigliani’s life, depicting when he ran from police through the streets and watering holes of war-torn Paris. Bohemians think nothing of Modigliani ending his career prematurely, including French artist Maurice Utrillo, the Belarusian-born Chaim Soutine, and his English muse and lover,...

“You want to get nuts? Come on, let’s get nuts.” It’s one of Michael Keaton’s most famous lines in the original Batman movie of 1989. And as directed by Tim Burton, there’s a playful mischief about the reading of it too; at last, the actor is allowed to go big, and the zeal in his eye betrays a certain degree of madness beneath all that brooding.
In the new trailer for this summer’s The Flash, it’s now also been reworked as a major callback, with Keaton delivering the same dialogue with all the solemnity of scripture. And to some, it might be just that—as are the many other mementos of Keaton’s tenure as the Dark Knight in the trailer: a closet full of batsuits from both Batman and Batman Returns, as well as seemingly many adventures that are hitherto unknown. There is also...

Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne in The Batman — Part II, once again written and directed by Matt Reeves. This news was part of DC Studios boss James Gunn’s recent announcement about what’s in store for their new universe — but it wasn’t the only Batman news he had to share. There’s another Batman movie in the works, but it doesn’t star Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.

With Gunn now in charge at DC, the studio’s direction has once again changed, and the DC Extended Universe, or Dceu, will be rebooted into simply the Dcu. But first, they must release projects that have already been produced. This summer, The Flash will hit theaters on June 16 and feature two different actors reprising the Dark Knight — Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck.

While Superman was naturally one of the much-rumoured key announcements James Gunn made today about his and DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran's plan for the future of their comic book-based output, there was also room for the other much-adapted character: Batman.
Gunn outlined a plan for Batman: The Brave And The Bold, adapting Grant Morrison's acclaimed run. "This is a story of Damian Wayne, who’s Batman’s actual son that he didn’t know existed for the first eight to ten years of his life," Gunn says. "He was raised as a little murderer and assassin. He’s my favorite Robin. We’re putting it all together right now."
And who is Bruce Wayne this time? Someone new, of course! "This is the introduction of the Dcu’s Batman," Gunn explains. "It is not Robert Pattinson. It is not Ben Affleck. We’re working with Robert on...
