Who are we to disagree Danielle Harris? When looking for a Best Horror Movie You Never Saw, nothing in our completely mad up rules that say a movie can’t be well received at the time of release. It can win awards including one from the audiences that saw it at TIFF and the kind of go away. There are a ton of movies that are great and original films in a genre that is nearly as obsessed with sequels and movie universes as DC and Marvel are today. Stake Land (watch it Here) is an original piece of media that is one part Walking Dead, one part The Road, and all together one of the Best Horror Movies you Never Saw.
Stake Land was destined to be a movie that few had seen as its theatrical run produced about 33 thousand in theaters but in an era of physical media and streaming services,...

Almost exactly one year ago today, it was announced that genre regular Maika Monroe would be re-teaming with Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, the writing / directing duo that was behind the 2019 film Villains (watch it Here), for a sci-fi thriller called Significant Other. Now a trailer for Significant Other has arrived online, and along with that comes the news that the film is going to be released through the Paramount Plus streaming service on October 7th. You can watch the trailer in the embed above.
Not much information has been revealed about Significant Other, but we know that the story centers on
young couple Harry and Ruth, who take a remote backpacking trip through the Pacific Northwest, but things take a dark turn when they realize they may not be alone.
Monroe is joined in the cast by Jake Lacy (White Lotus).

I’ve used Rakuten TV a few times now, and the service is on-point. Slick, easy to use and crystal clear in sound and picture, it’s a very cool service for the rental of movies. Available to use across various places, from Smart TV’s, Xbox One, PC’s, Chromecast and various other places, it’s well worth a shot if you’re yet to use it.
This occasion I watched Villains, a comedy drama with elements of home-invasion thriller and horror, it is a delightfully dark film that twists and turns you on a 90 minute journey as we follow two small-time crooks in love, Mickey (Bill Skarsgård) and Jules (Maika Monroe) who are, through some armed robbery jobs, on their way to Florida with a stash of...

When Stake Land released, it was a breath of fresh air for lovers of the fanged monsters. The vampires were back, and in a movie, that used them well. Now that Stake Land II is here, does it manage the same?
When Martin’s (Connor Paolo) wife and daughter are murdered by a group of vampires controlled by a vampire known as The Mother (Kristina Hughes), he goes in search of Mister (Nick Damici). Knowing the old vampire hunter can help him defeat this new vampire.
Stake Land II is a welcome return to the post-apocalyptic world of vampires, where humanity is sparse and the vampires and their followers are now in control. The Mother is an interesting vampire that we don’t really see enough of,...

The Evil Within – a strange, gory film pored over meticulously in his mansion by the oil dynasty scion Andrew Getty until his death – is finally getting a release
It arrived with little fanfare, practically in secret; a Z-list horror film with the unassuming title The Evil Within recently surfaced on Amazon’s video-streaming library, left to molder alongside such little-seen cannon fodder as Stake Land II and It Lives in the Attic. To the untrained eye, it would look like another helping of half-baked schlock, cranked out over a couple of weeks in pursuit of a quick paycheck. But upon further inspection, just beneath the outermost layer of synthetic goo and foam-rubber prosthetics, there lies a passion project built on a foundation of uncommon artistic commitment. Far from a fly-by-night cash-grab, The Evil Within represents 15 years’ worth of effort, standing today as a testament to its creator’s singular mad ambition.

Valentine’s Day is bringing horror and sci-fi fans numerous gifts this Tuesday in the form of a ton of great Blu-ray and DVD releases. One of my favorites from 2016, the Academy Award-nominated Arrival, hits 4K Blu-ray, as well as traditional Blu-ray and DVD formats, this week courtesy of Paramount, and Universal Studios Home Entertainment has given the cult sci-fi classic It Came From Outer Space the HD treatment as well.
Other notable home entertainment titles arriving on February 14th include Stake Land II, Star Trek: Enterprise: The Complete Collection, Blood Brothers, Creature Lake, Freshwater, The Horde, and The Crooked Man.

In a world crawling with vampiric creatures, Mister helps equalize the fight between the living and the undead. Nick Damici’s memorable character returns for a new journey fueled by Martin’s (Connor Paolo) desire for revenge in Stake Land II. With the sequel out now on digital platforms and hitting Blu-ray and DVD on February 14th from Dark Sky Films, Daily Dead had the pleasure of speaking with Damici about reprising the role of Mister and much more.
Read on for our discussion with Damici, in which he talks about his plans for a third Stake Land film and shares his thoughts on the Stake Land TV series that he had once been developing. He also talks about the response to Bushwick (a movie he co-wrote) following the film’s Sundance screenings, what to expect in the upcoming season of Hap and Leonard, and an interesting conversation he once...

Good news: cinephiles won’t have to wait long for A24’s mystery sci-fi project. Last week, the tastemaker studio dropped a trailer that featured plenty of haunting imagery, but had zero information about what it actually was. However, eagle-eyed fans have deduced from a still of Sundance short “Toru,” along with pictures of the set, that the short is A24’s project in question. While dreams of a possible Shane Carruth film have been dashed, “Toru” sounds quite intriguing, and A24 has had a good track record with sci-fi in “Ex Machina.”
Directed by Jonathan Minard and Scott Rashap, shot by Dp Matt Mitchell (“The Stakelander”) and featuring a score by Brian McComber (“Krisha”), “Toru” is about how “an infant’s life is transformed by a new technology.” The short is fourteen minutes long and in Japanese with English subtitles, featuring the cast of Ai Kiyono, Yasu Suzuki, Tatsuo Ichikawa,...

More details are emerging for the sequel Stake Land II. A trailer for this film was released in mid-December, when it was announced that the film would release on February 14th, via DVD and Blu-ray. Now, it has just been revealed that the film will be available through Video-on-demand, one week before this date. Written by Nick Damici, Stake Land II reteams Mister (Damici) and Martin (Connor Paolo) to fight a new foe. The film also stars: Laura Abramsen (Wolfcop, 2014), A.C. Peterson and Steven Williams.
