Sony Pictures and Chinese production company Tencent have landed rights to “Finding Gobi,” a touching memoir about a stray dog who befriends a runner, and plan to adapt it as a feature film.
20th Century Fox originally optioned the book in 2017, but the project was abandoned when Disney acquired Fox’s film assets two years later.
“Finding Gobi” was written by Dion Leonard, a seasoned ultra-marathon runner who crossed paths with an abandoned dog while competing in a 155-mile race through the Gobi Desert in China. In something of a heroic feat, the small pup — later named Gobi — stuck around and kept pace with Leonard across mountains and sand dunes for 77 miles.
Gobi later went missing, but with the help of strangers and an outpouring of internet assistance, Leonard was able to track her down and reunite with the dog that changed his life.

Director Andrew Traucki returns to croc-infested waters for Black Water: Abyss, a stand-alone sequel to his 2007 crocky horror Black Water. As crocsploitation pictures go, it’s a largely toothless affair, but it does have a couple of snappy moments.
Set in Northern Australia, the plot centres on thrill-seeker Eric (Luke Mitchell), who sets out to explore an uncharted cave system and persuades his girlfriend Jennifer (Jessica McNamee) and their friends Yolanda (Amali Golden) and Viktor (Benjamin Hoetjes) to join him. They’re accompanied by bearded, up-for-anything Cash (Anthony J. Sharpe), who acts as their guide. However, once underground, they’re cut off by a flash flood and find themselves trapped alongside a large underground pool, with the waters rising. The Doobie Brothers and Peter Frampton have partnered for a cover of Eric Clapton’s 1970 track, “Let It Rain.”
The song and its accompanying video were recorded virtually, with Frampton and every member of the Doobie Brothers contributing their parts remotely. “Let It Rain” is a perfect choice for the Doobies and Frampton, who add a little extra instrumental oomph — especially when Frampton and Tom Johnston start trading guitar solos — but otherwise remain faithful to the original’s cathartic pop-rock charms.

Submerge is a slight but engaging drama about life, lust and relationships within the world of the Australian Academy.
Jordan (Lily Hall) is an undergrad student, seeking to enlighten herself about ancient civilisations. In between lectures, and assignments, she is attempting to break through in the world of competitive swimming. In these efforts, she is alternately hindered and cheered on by bi flatmate and young Lothario, Lucas (Kevin Dee), and her ambitious/pushy mother, who is never off the phone, exhorting her to train harder, do better.
Exhorting? Not quite. As far as her mother is concerned, Jordan’s future lies in the water and if that means deferring her university course for a year, so be it.
This, though, Jordan is reluctant to do. For not only is she in love with her subject but she is falling for one of her lecturers, Angie (Christina Hallett). The latter, though,...

Rufus Wainwright has always existed in a world unto himself, the sort of place where Cole Porter, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, and Ian Anderson could all share a sherry and muse on love and literature. It’s an acquired taste for sure, but somehow, he’s always been able to pull off sounding blithe and totally earnest at the same time — two moods that only seem work in a Venn diagram where he’s in the middle.
Unfollow the Rules, Wainwright’s ninth album of original music, is a typically grand and jazzy affair with syrupy,...

The Doobie Brothers have shared a socially distanced take on their 1972 classic, “Listen to the Music.”
The performance features Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, John McFee and John Cowan, all of whom recorded their parts from their respective homes. Without any percussion or drums, this particular rendition of “Listen to the Music” has an even breezier and lighter feel than the original. Not that it’s without any depth or complexity; McFee’s banjo and Cowan’s bass tumble and rumble beneath the guitars, and all four Doobies combine for some characteristically soaring harmonies.

With millions of people across the world stuck indoors due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Netflix is the gift that keeps on giving to movie and TV fans. The streaming service recently reported a huge jump in subscriber numbers as a direct result of global lockdowns, and seemingly not content with dominating the cultural conversation with Tiger King, they seem to have done it again with Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction.
If you’re a fan of action flicks and are a Netflix subscriber, chances are you’ll have already seen it by now or will be planning on it in the very near future, and the general consensus seems to be that Extraction is a solid enough entry in the genre, with a pretty straightforward and formulaic narrative greatly enhanced by expertly staged wall-to-wall action sequences and the Thor star reveling in the opportunity to go into full-blown action hero mode for the first time.

María Alché's A Family Submerged, which is receiving an exclusive global online premiere on Mubi, is showing from February 6 – March 6, 2019 in Mubi's Debuts series.Behind the scenes: Director María Alché and Assistant Director Victoria Comune. They say we are born in other people’s words, their lines, the plans that are made for us, and when we leave this world, we remain in the words that will come after us. This film is an exploration of the dynamic cycle in which we exist, we are complemented, and we become something else. The main lead loses her sister, and with her goes a part of Marcela’s tangible world: the talks they used to have, their similar way of arranging objects at home, the shared anecdotes, the grimaces, the emotions. She is left with the void of being, as of now, the oldest member in her family. Marcela experiences the beginning of a transformation.

With the Doobie’s Hall of Fame induction, there’s never been a better time to get familiar with the captains of Yacht Rock. Their heyday was basically the entire decade of the Seventies, though a major shift occurred when frontman Tom Johnston, who wrote the majority of their hits, stepped aside in 1975 to deal with a bleeding ulcer and other medical issues.

Twenty-nine different men have been in the Doobie Brothers during the past 50 years, but only one of them has been there the entire time: Patrick Simmons. And while Tom Johnston may be the face of the band and Michael McDonald the one that went on to huge success outside the group, Simmons is the songwriter and singer behind some of their most famous songs, including “Black Water.” He’s also a key part of the band’s signature harmonic blend.

The Doobie Brothers were one of the most popular bands in America when Michael McDonald joined their ranks in 1975. Frontman Tom Johnston had just departed due to medical issues and they wanted someone to contribute to the harmonies and add keyboards into the mix. At that point, McDonald was best known for his studio work with Steely Dan, and the group had no idea he was a brilliant songwriter until he showed them a demo for “Takin’ It to the Streets,” which quickly became the title for their sixth studio...

The Doobie Brothers became yet another band to announce a reunion earlier this week when they rolled out dates for a 2020 50th-anniversary tour with former keyboardist-singer Michael McDonald back in the fold for the first time since 1995. They announced it to fans during a show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on November 18th when McDonald came out for the final encore of “Takin’ It to the Streets.”

In the new horror movie “Crawl,” a pack of enormous alligators invades a sleepy Florida town during a violent hurricane and proceeds to rip the cast apart, limb by limb. These nasty gators aren’t the first critters of their kind to terrify audiences, however. Here’s our list of ravenous reptiles, ranked in order from scariest to silliest.
1) Alligator (1980)
Two-time Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Sayles penned this gruesomely entertaining monster mash about a baby gator named Ramón who gets flushed down a toilet and mutates into a 36-foot behemoth lurking in the Chicago sewer system. When his appetite for human flesh gets the better of him, Ramón bursts through the sidewalk and chows down on a horde of terrified locals. Featuring colorful performances from cult film superstars Robert Forster and Henry Silva, plus witty direction from the ever-dependable Lewis Teague, “Alligator” is more than just the best rampaging reptile movie...

Luke Mitchell with Jessica McNamee.
Luke Mitchell shot Andrew Traucki’s Black Water: Abyss, a survival thriller about five people who are attacked by killer crocodiles, in a purpose-built pool near Brisbane, but it was no picnic.
“The fear factor was real. There were tricky conditions as we were immersed in rising water in the dark with only our headlamps and torches for illumination,” the actor tells If after returning to his home in Los Angeles.
Mitchell readily accepted the role for several reasons. He wanted to “get my hands dirty” after playing Captain John Abraham in The Code, a military legal drama which screens on CBS All Access in the Us and here on 10 All Access.
It was his first ever genre film, it enabled him to come back to his native Queensland, and it was his first chance to work with Jessica McNamee.

The Monkees are your overwhelmingly favorite band to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. They received 46% of support in our recent poll about snubbed rock groups. Of the dozen choices in our poll, the only other band to have double digit votes was Three Dog Night with 17%.
The results might be a good sign for both artists. Four bands at the top of our poll last year — Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits and The Moody Blues — were all finally inducted in 2018 after many years of waiting. Here are the results for our other recent polls about female artists (won by Cher) and male artists (won by George Michael).
Here are the rock bands and poll results for all 12 choices in our poll:

Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits and The Moody Blues are no longer overlooked by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And now we offer you a dozen more rock bands that are still waiting for their turn. Vote in the poll below about which group needs to be inducted next for the 2019 ceremony.

The billing is more than a little misleading. “Universal Soldier” cohorts Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren may be listed in the credits (and promoted in the advertising art) as co-stars of “Black Water,” but it’s up to Van Damme to do most of the damage in this routine VOD-centric action thriller set aboard a submarine employed as a CIA black site. Throughout most of the movie’s perceptibly padded running time, Lundgren’s character is incarcerated in a dank prison cell on the sub — next door to the one in which Van Damme’s character fleetingly cools his heels — where we periodically see him reading, exercising, meditating, and generally looking very Zen. To call this a cameo role would be overly generous. Truth to tell, Lundgren enjoys a greater percentage of screen time, and engages in slightly more rough stuff, in the punchy music video for Imagine Dragons’ “Believer.

India’s “Toilet Ek Prem Katha” landed on top of the Chinese box office, on what was the second lowest grossing weekend of the year. “Toilet” earned $9.09 million, ahead of holdover Chinese fantasy romance “How Long Will I Love U” in second place.
Despite the low score, the win is a further triumph for diversity and a sign of audience development in Chinese theatres.
The odds should have been against the film, pitched as “Toilet Hero.” The story of one man’s attempt to bring sanitation to his village, the film’s central concept portrays a low development era that China left behind many years ago. And its male lead Akshay Kumar, although well loved in India, is little known in China.
Nevertheless, what Indian analysts call content-driven films (a distinction that marks them apart from packages dominated by star casting), have found real connections and growing interest in China in the past two years.

The first trailer for a new action film called Black Water has been released and it features Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren teaming up to kick some ass. If you're a fan of either of these two action stars, you'll probably enjoy what this movie has to offer. As you'll see, it has a very 90s action film vibe to it. It's always fun seeing legendary action stars like this team up for a movie! Here's the synopsis:
Action-movie icons Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren deliver a double shot of adrenaline-fueled excitement in this heartpounding undersea thriller. After a failed mission, deep-cover operative Wheeler (Van Damme) is imprisoned in a CIA black site on a submarine. "Lock down this boat right away!" Saban Films has debuted an official trailer for another one of these super cheesy action movies titled Black Water, which is the feature debut of a cinematographer named Pasha Patriki. The title of the film relates to the setting of the film - a submarine which is actually a CIA black site. The plot involves a deep cover operative who awakens to find himself imprisoned there, and then eventually discovers another prisoner while attempting to escape. The big selling point is that this stars two big action legends: Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. The rest of the cast features Al Sapienza, Jasmine Waltz, and Patrick Kilpatrick. This looks as bad as it sounds, even with these two guys in it, but maybe it's a fun time with friends & beer. 2017 has barely kicked off and already action fans are being assured 2018 won’t pull any punches. Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren are set to reteam for a new action thriller called Black Water. The two action stars previously worked together on the Universal Soldier sci-fi action movies as well as The Expendables 2.
The two have fought against each other in both of those film franchises, but Black Water will show them team up as allies for the first time in a feature film, so that's kind of a big deal!
The film has an interesting story that centers on "a deep cover operative (Van Damme) who awakens to find himself imprisoned in a CIA black site on a submarine." There's no information on the film other than that. We also don't know who Lundgren will play, but if they are teaming up, he could be another prisoner on the submarine.
