With Christmas now only a week away, there’s a big day of genre-related home entertainment releases to look forward to in the meantime, just in case you were in need of some last-minute gift ideas (or if you were looking to spoil yourself, which is totally cool). Easily my most anticipated Blu-ray release for all of 2017, Synapse Films' stunning 4K restoration of Suspiria gets the royal treatment via an incredible three-disc limited edition Steelbook set this Tuesday, and Severin Films is also keeping busy with their HD upgrade of The Amicus Collection, which includes Asylum, And Now The Screaming Starts, and The Beast Must Die.
Other notable Blu-ray and DVD releases for December 19th include American Gothic, Leatherface, mother!, and the limited edition Steelbook for Donnie Darko.
American Gothic (Scream Factory, Blu-ray)
A new tale of terror from the director of The Legend of Hell House and The Incubus.

As 2017 comes to a close, Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!” remains one of the year’s most talked about films. While Aronofsky remained tight-lipped about the film’s plot prior to release, the film’s star, Jennifer Lawrence, admitted that she went to a dark place for the film and had hyperventilated so much during filming that she dislocated a rib. Upon release, it became easy to see why, as “mother!” pulls no punches, and remains one of 2017’s most shocking and daring pieces of cinema.
On December 19, “mother!” is coming to 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Combo Packs, which includes over 35 minutes of bonus content, which highlight the film’s incredible special effects makeup and feature Aronofsky and cast discussing the film’s production and its shocking finale.

When Jigsaw was first announced by the folks at Lionsgate, and Saw: The Final Chapter was no longer the swan song promised, horror fans were understandably worried that the series was about to go one step too far and, dare we say it, jump the shark. Now, with the film having finished up its theatrical run, it’s clear that there’s little to no gas left in the tank of this once beloved franchise.
True, Jigsaw wasn’t an awful movie, but it was made more for the hardcore fans than anyone else and those seemed to be the only people who really enjoyed it. Still, the studio isn’t giving up on the titular killer just yet and will be releasing the pic on Blu-ray next month. On January 9th, to be exact, when it’ll hit 4K Ultra HD and Blu-Ray Combo Pack, with a...

The kids from It have some pretty genius ideas about which actors should be cast in the sequel.
Et caught up with some of the stars of director Andy Muschietti’s remake of the 1990 miniseries at a press junket for the movie's home entertainment release in Los Angeles on Thursday, where they revealed which celebrities they'd love to see portray their adult counterparts in It: Chapter 2.
Jeremy Ray Taylor, who plays the beloved Ben, says it would be awesome to see a certain Avengers star in the sequel, which will focus on the Losers' Club reuniting 30 years after their first encounter with Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård). Needless to say, we think it's perfect!
"Probably Chris Pratt," he exclaimed.

Seeing as his costar, Wyatt Oleff, worked alongside Pratt as young Peter Quill in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, this dream casting isn't too far fetched.

Ask anyone who saw Darren Aronofsky’s divisive drama “mother!” this year, and they’ll likely be able to pinpoint the exact moment they realized what was really unspooling on the big screen (or, at the very least, what very famous stories the filmmaker was remaking into his own single-location drama, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem). For many viewers, that moment came after the introduction of Domhnall Gleeson and Brian Gleeson’s characters, real-life brothers cast in the film as the children of Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer’s confounding houseguests.
After an already-awkward introduction (these people just don’t have manners), the pair engage in one of the film’s most jarring sequences: a knock-down, drag-out fight that runs roughshod over not just the house that’s central to the film’s identity, but an understandably nerve-jangled Lawrence.

We may only have several home entertainment releases for this Tuesday, but as the saying goes, “quality over quantity,” because this bunch of Blu-rays and DVDs are a stellar lot of films. One of my favorite horror films of 2017, Mark Duplass’ Creep 2, makes its way home on November 28th courtesy of The Orchard, and Scream Factory has given Rob Reiner’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Misery the Collector’s Edition treatment (and deservedly so).
For you cult film fans, both Death Laid an Egg and Deathdream (aka Dead of Night) get the HD treatment this week, and other notable releases this Tuesday include M.F.A., Rememory, Super Dark Times, Woodshock, and Trailer Trauma 4: Television Trauma.
Creep 2 (The Orchard, DVD)

Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and this is what we’re most excited about the week of Thanksgiving:
Why We’re Obsessed With ‘Godless’
From Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank (Logan screenwriter) comes a western saga that is both familiar and fresh in its telling of ruthless outlaws terrorizing a town populated only by women when a bandit turns to them for cover. “This story is an authentic western in many ways, but it's a story that hasn't been told. It flips the western genre on its head by having the narrative, at the heart of it, [told through] this town of women,” says Michelle Dockery, who, in the midst of a great post-Downton Abbey run as Letty on TNT’s Good Behavior, plays Alice, one of the town’s widows who takes in Roy (Jack O’Connell). “It's something that people won't have seen before.” Newcomer Audrey Moore, who plays...

In the weeks leading up September 8th, it soon became apparent that Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema had a box office monster on their hands with It, Andy Muschietti’s R-rated adaptation that struck a deft balance between horror and heart – between a transdimensional demon, and six teenagers prepared to stare down the face of evil.
As a matter of fact, it didn’t take long before It’s initial box office haul reflected Muschietti’s crowning achievement, which has since accumulated more than $670 million worldwide. Hell, there’s even been talk of Warner Bros. launching an Oscar campaign for the horror film, which would place the Stephen King adaptation in the company of Wonder Woman, Get Out and scores of other potential winners that have emerged from left-field.

With a trailer to give fans a look at the upcoming Elseworlds animated Batman adventure, WB Animation has announced when fans will be able to get the Gotham By Gaslight blu-ray, along with all the special features coming with it. Come inside for all the details!
DC's Animated films are almost always a lot of fun to watch. Some of my favorites, however, are the ones that eschew the Animated Universe continuinty in favor of something different (like Gods and Monsters). As such, I'm really excited to see how Batman: Gotham By Gaslight turns out. It sees a different Batman take on Jack the Ripper in a turn of the century Gotham.
It's a neat concept, and worked great in the comics. Let's just hope the same magic works in the animated film when it releases on February 6, 2018:

Nobody could have predicted just how successful It would turn out to be. Sure, it’s a marketable property based on a popular novel, but isn’t the killer clown thing just a little bit played out in 2017? Apparently not, because Andy Muschietti’s adaptation of (half of) Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel has to date grossed an astonishing $683 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing horror film of all-time and the second highest grossing R-rated film of all-time (after Deadpool). Not only was it a financial hit, then, but it was a critical darling, too, and is now regarded as one of the best Stephen King adaptations ever.
That’s why we’re pretty confident it’s going to do well on home video, and Warner Bros. has just given us the full details, telling us that It will be available to own for streaming and download from December 19th,...
