One of the easiest ways to measure someone’s success is to count all the pop culture references that others make to them. In the case of Stephen King, they would probably hit a three-digit number, considering how many TV shows, movies, and other novel authors have been using King’s plots as an inspiration.
If you are interested to see 10 of the most popular TV shows that referred to King one way or the other, check out the list below.
Lost (2004-2010)
Heavily influenced by King's writing, Lost had no shortage of references and easter eggs to the author within the show. The most obvious are season 3 Juliet's choice of Carrie as a book club entry, and the future version of Jack reading a newspaper clipping with words like "Ted," "the Tower," and "beam" in it, all references to Stephen King's The Dark Tower.

In 2006, Stephen King's "Lisey's Story" won the Bram Stoker Award for its meticulous exploration of the art of writing, entwined with how repressed memories burst to the surface and begin to define who we are. King's novel examines what it means to be an author, where a mythical pool is likened to a wellspring of creativity, with the ability to both agonize and heal. Compared to most of King's works, "Lisey's Story" is a tad harder to breeze through — however, the halting nature of the story perfectly encapsulates the complexities of writing about something personal, along with the myriad emotions it evokes. This story in particular also holds deep personal meaning for King, contributing to the fact that it is still one of his favorite works.

Exclusive: We hear on good authority that Peacemaker star Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen are joining the cast of Warner Bros and Legendary’s Minecraft movie.
Jared Hess is directing the Jason Momoa-starring feature take on the classic computer game. Brooks will play the role of Dawn, while Hansen will play the role of Henry.
Word is that production is looking to ramp up by the end of the month in New Zealand. Coming out of the actors strike, this is a production that has seen some of its potential castings pull away due to other obligations on TV.
Writing credits on Minecraft are still being determined, and the pic’s plot is under wraps. The Mojang sandbox video game is reportedly the highest-selling of all time with over 300 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players as of this year.

Summer’s almost over, which means the start of the traditional TV season. And while the ongoing Hollywood double strike delayed production for scripted originals across the industry, there’s still an avalanche of new and returning shows coming to broadcast, cable and streaming services this fall.
While we’ll have to wait longer for the return of broadcast staples like the “One Chicago” franchise, “Young Sheldon” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” networks are planning to lean on banked originals (like NBC’s “Found” and “The Irrational”), unscripted staples like NBC’s “The Voice” (with new judge Reba McEntire) and “Dancing With the Stars” returning to ABC, international acquisitions (“Sullivan’s Crossing” on The CW) and even borrowing buzzworthy shows from sibling cable networks (“Yellowstone” airing on CBS). Programming on cable and streaming services has not been as impacted by the production stoppage yet, with plenty of comedy (Paramount+’s “Frasier” reboot), drama...

Just over a year has passed since we heard that Pablo Larraín, director of the films Jackie, Ema, and Spencer, as well as the Stephen King mini-series Lisey’s Story, was in production on El Conde, which depicts real-world dictator Augusto Pinochet as a vampire. Now a trailer for El Conde has arrived online, revealing that the film is scheduled to be released through the Netflix streaming service on September 15th. The trailer can be seen in the embed above.
Scripted by Larraín and his frequent collaborator Guillermo Calderón, El Conde is a horror dark comedy that imagines a parallel universe inspired by the recent history of Chile. The film portrays Augusto Pinochet, a symbol of world fascism, as a vampire who lives hidden in a ruined mansion in the cold southern tip of the continent, feeding his appetite for evil to sustain his existence. Look, Stephen King likes to stay busy. The aughts were no exception, and by 2008, the blockbuster author had completed his long-running The Dark Tower series, delivered a Hard Case Crime novel in The Colorado Kid, penned two personal epics in Lisey’s Story and Duma Key, returned to horror with Cell, and started writing a column for Entertainment Weekly.
Somewhere in all of that ruckus, King also agreed to edit The Best American Short Stories 2007. It was during that period, however, that — in classic King fashion — he became inspired to add more to his plate: He wanted to return to the short story medium. If you recall, 2002’s Everything’s Eventual was a scrapbook of then-uncollected works. Not so for Just After Sunset.
And so, King published 12 stories in the 2008 collection, including an older relic in “The Black Cat from Hell”. In the first of two episodes dedicated to Just After Sunset,...

Apple TV+ is quietly cornering the market on high-quality literary adaptations; the streamer may be best-known for original series like "Ted Lasso," but its adaptation game is surprisingly strong. From standouts like "Pachinko," "Foundation," and "Black Bird" to more polarizing offerings like "Lisey's Story," "Defending Jacob," and "The Essex Serpent," the streamer is constantly fine-tuning the art of the page-to-screen projects. The latest book adaptation from them is especially ambitious, and it's a risk that largely pays off. The 10-episode first season of "Silo," based on Hugh Howey's bestselling novel series, builds a somber yet thrilling world from the ground up — or, in the case of the titular structure, from the ground down.
"Silo" starts with a searingly great premise: a group of roughly 10,000 people is housed in an underground silo, at least 140 years removed from some sort of society-shaking event. Details about the silo's history are cloudy (for...

Get the dialect coach on the line — we’re going back to Southeastern Pennsylvania with “Mare of Easttown” creator Brad Ingelsby. The writer-producer has set the new feature film “Echo Valley” at Apple Studios, and recruited Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney as his stars.
“Echo Valley” will follow Oscar winner Moore as Kate Garrett, a woman reeling from a personal tragedy who spends her days boarding and training horses on the secluded and picturesque Echo Valley Farm. One of Stephen King's newest stories is already set to get the big screen adaptation, as Deadline is reporting that the 2021 crime novel "Billy Summers" has been acquired by Warner Brothers, with J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot producing. This is a slight change of plans from the news that broke almost exactly a year ago, when the same outlet reported that Bad Robot was set to develop the book as a limited series.
Abrams isn't the only big name on board, as Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way is also producing, with Deadline speculating that DiCaprio himself may star while Abrams directs. Still, the project is in the early stages, and we know better than to put all our eggs in one basket when it comes to dream-casting DiCaprio in his producing projects after what happened to "The Devil in the White City."
Still, "Billy Summers" is worth getting excited about.

Almost exactly one year ago, we heard that JJ Abrams’ production company Bad Robot was shopping around a limited series adaptation of the Stephen King novel Billy Summers (you can pick up a copy at This Link), with Edward Zwick attached to direct the series and write the scripts with Marshall Herskovitz. At the time, Bad Robot wasn’t certain how long Billy Summers was going to be, just somewhere in the range of “six to ten episodes”. Well, now we know it’s going to be something closer to two hours long. The decision has been made that Billy Summers will work better as a feature, and the movie is now set up at Warner Bros. with Leonardo DiCaprio’s company Appian Way producing alongside Bad Robot.
Deadline notes that, depending on how well development of the project goes, Abrams could end up directing the film with DiCaprio taking on the lead role.

Exclusive: Warner Bros. has acquired the Stephen King bestseller Billy Summers.
While in development, the feature project will be produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way. If this comes out great, it could be a project for Abrams to direct with DiCaprio playing the title character.
Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz are writing the screenplay.
This was originally packaged as a ten-episode limited series, shopped around to cable networks and streamers, as we first told you last February, but the decision was made that Billy Summers would work better as a feature.
Billy Summers is a hitman who is looking to retire and takes one last highly lucrative job to feather his nest. The job requires him to embed himself in a quiet town, where he pretends to be an aspiring writer (he actually pours himself into the prose). He sets up in an...

Veteran Warner Bros. Television casting executive Findley Davidson has departed the studio after 15 years, most recently as head of New York casting. She has launched her own, New York-based independent casting office, Findley Davidson Casting, which will offer casting services for film, television, and theatre.
Davidson, who joined Wbtv in 2008, was made VP and head of the studio’s New York casting office in 2019, following the retirement of VP Meg Simon after a 40-year career. I hear Wbtv will maintain some casting presence in New York though it is not expected to be at the level of the past. The studio’s parent Warner Bros. Discovery has been in a cost-cutting mode post-merger, and casting is one of the areas where the company has scaled back, including the elimination of the HBO Max casting department in favor of adopting HBO’s model that involves using casting directors on individual shows.

A trailer for "Sharper," the first Apple TV+ original movie of 2023, is here, and it's chock full of stars and advice about stealing. Julianne Moore, Sebastian Stan, John Lithgow, Justice Smith, and newcomer Briana Middleton lead the ensemble cast of this psychological thriller, which continues indie film studio A24's distribution partnership with the streamer.
"Sharper" is directed by Benjamin Caron, who most recently helmed three episodes of the Disney+ series "Andor." The movie is written by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, whose script made the 2020 Black List of the year's best unproduced screenplays.
At the time, the plot of "Sharper" was said to follow what happens when "a chain of scam artists goes after one wealthy family with the perfect plan to drain them of their funds." Complications ensue as "love, heartbreak, and jealousy slither their way into the grand scheme" and "it becomes unclear whether the criminals are...

Harrison Ford will also be coming to TV in the Apple Original comedy, Shrinking. A previous film of Harrison Ford’s, Presumed Innocent, will now be re-adapted for Apple TV+ and word is, Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in the leading role.

Kelley, as well as the co-creator of Castle Rock, Dustin Thomason, and producing juggernaut J.J. Abrams. Abrams’ Bad Robot will be producing in association with Warner Bros. Jaeden Martell stars as a teen who might be texting with a ghost in a languid tale that recycles familiar King tropes
The mostly quiet adaptation of Stephen King novella Mr Harrigan’s Phone is underscored by a distracting and familiar sound. It’s that desperate post-It scrape of the large barrel of stories he’s written, studios searching for third- and fourth-tier books to be dragged to the screen, an ungainly process that only serves to highlight the author’s weakest spots.
Recently, we’ve shrugged our way through Pablo Larraín’s visually arresting yet otherwise uninteresting Apple series Lisey’s Story, the dull Adrien Brody-led Chapelwaite based on Jerusalem’s Lot, a damp remake of Firestarter (a story that was never that interesting to begin with) and now, a thinly plotted 88-page short story becomes a bloated 106-minute Netflix movie, a competently made yet utterly inconsequential pre-Halloween time-waster.

On Sept. 8, 2017, New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. Pictures released It: Chapter One, the first of two movies based on the classic 1986 novel by Stephen King and a film destined to go down in cinema history as the highest grossing horror movie of all time.
Opening to a record-shattering 124 million and eventually earning 701 million worldwide (against a measly budget of 40 million or so), It: Chapter One was also a fantastic movie. It captured both the unimaginable terror of the entity known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown (helped by a genuinely unnerving performance by Bill Skarsgard) and the emotional, coming-of-age story of the seven kids known as the Losers Club, who bond together to battle the malignancy under their town.
It: Chapter One also proved that a mainstream, high-quality, studio-backed picture could still be made from King’s work, after a nearly 20-year period in which many adaptations either did moderately well...

The 2022 Emmy nominees for main title design are Hulu’s Candy and Only Murders in the Building; Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop; and Apple TV+’s Foundation, Lisey’s Story, Pachinko and Severance.
Here’s how the main titles design category has looked between 2002 and 2021:
Winners by Genre
TV Academy voters strongly favor drama series, which earned the vast majority of nominations and wins in the past two decades
Victory, Multiplied Game of Thrones opening titles
The category’s rules stipulate that titles for a program not in its first season must be substantially changed (at least 75 percent different) to be eligible. HBO’s Game of Thrones is the only series to win twice for main title design, for its first season in 2011 and its final season in 2019.

As any TV viewer knows, there is nothing quite like a good main title sequence. Some shows work fine without them, but it never hurts to set a story’s mood with a well-edited arrangement of eye-catching graphics. If the design is good enough to make watchers refuse to hit or even forget about the “skip intro” button, it deserves recognition, and that is exactly what the Best Main Title Design Emmy category is for.

The Showtime limited series “Fellow Travelers” is rounding out its cast.
Variety has learned exclusively that the series has cast Will Brill, Chris Bauer, Erin Neufer, Matt Visser, and Christine Horne. in recurring roles. They join previously announced series leads Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, and Allison Williams and series regulars Jelani Alladin, Noah J. Ricketts, and Linus Roache.
The series is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Mallon. Bomer will play handsome, charismatic Hawkins Fuller, who maintains a financially rewarding, behind-the scenes career in politics. It doesn’t matter what the subject matter is, when filmmaker Pablo Larraín announces a new project, we’re excited. This is because the recent filmography of Larraín damn-hear perfect with a litany of award-winning films such as “Spencer,” “Ema,” and “Jackie,” just to name a few. And even when he dabbles in TV directing, such as with the recent “Lisey’s Story,” it’s still really interesting and worth our attention.

As expected, Demimonde will not be moving forward at HBO.
The series, which marked the first original created by J.J. Abrams since Fringe in 2008, has officially been passed over by the premium cable network following issues surrounding the show’s sprawling budget.
Sources tell THR that Abrams made a last-ditch plea to HBO/HBO Max boss Casey Bloys to spare the drama from cancellation. Bloys took the week to do so but ultimately the decision was made to part ways with the series for which Abrams had sought a budget north of 200 million. By comparison, HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon clocked in at less than 200 million. Abrams was also slated to direct the pilot for Demimonde, which has already changed showrunners since it landed at HBO in 2018 following a bidding war with Apple.

FX is moving ahead with Fargo Season 5.
The highly-anticipated new season, penned by Noah Hawley, will have much star power when it premieres.
Jon Hamm (Mad Men) has landed the male lead role on the project, but plot details remain scarce.
Aside from the series being set in 2019, all we know is that the series will ask the following questions:
When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn't yours?
It's a compelling enough hook, but it doesn't quite have the pizazz of prior seasons ... yet.
The franchise has notoriously been shrouded in secrecy until close to transmission to keep all of the plot lines as a surprise for viewers.
Hamm is, of course, well known for his role on Mad Men, but his other credits include Top Gun: Maverick, 20 Rock, The Town, and Baby Driver.
Hamm is on board to play a character named Roy.
