Steve Albini, the legendary record producer and engineer behind Nirvana’s In Utero, Pixies’ Surfer Rosa, and countless other classic alternative rock albums, has died of a heart attack. He was 61 years old.
News of Albini’s death was confirmed to Consequence via a staff member at his recording studio, Electrical Audio in Chicago.
Preferring the term “engineer” over “producer,” Albini was lauded for his minimalist approach to recording sessions and focus on capturing the natural sound of musicians’ performances. As a singer and guitarist in his own right, Albini also led the bands Shellac and Big Black.
Albini was born in Pasadena, California, on July 22nd in 1962. He went to college at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and spent most of his career based in Chicago, where he founded Electrical Audio.
His music career essentially started as singer-guitarist of Big Black, a band he formed while still a student at Northwestern.

Christopher Walken joined Dune: Part Two as one of the new additions besides Austin Butler, Léa Seydoux, and Florence Pugh. The 80-year-old veteran actor plays the role of Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV, the ruler of the Known Universe, in Denis Villeneuve’s epic sequel. While the casting and the actor’s performance deserve praise, not everyone is happy with his double standards. The actor previously criticized the big-budget Marvel movies while himself starring in the $190 million production of Dune 2.

The trailer for The Garfield Movie has now made its online debut. Sony Pictures Animation is bringing to life one of the most famous lazy felines in the world. The last time Garfield had graced the silver screen was in 2006’s Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, the sequel to 2004’s Garfield, which featured Bill Murray as the titular voice that originated with Lorenzo Music, who poetically also voiced the Bill Murray role in The Real Ghostbusters. Famously, Murray had admitted to taking the role under the mistaken assumption that he was working with one of the Coen brothers (the movie was written by Joel Cohen – unrelated to the beloved duo).

"Color me: intrigued" Sony Pictures has unveiled the first look teaser trailer for the next upcoming Garfield movie, currently set to arrive in theaters in May of 2024 next summer. "Monday just got a whole lot better." The Garfield Movie, as it is officially called, is directed by Mark Dindal, the animation filmmaker who also directed The Emperor's New Groove and Chicken Little. The funky plot features Garfield reuniting with his long-lost father, a scruffy street cat, then ending up involved in a high-stakes heist. The film stars Chris Pratt as the voice of the sarcastic, lasagna-loving tabby, alongside the voices of Samuel L. Jackson as his father Vic, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Ving Rhames. This is a fun intro, similar to the recent Scooby Doo movie where they show Scoob as a pup, this time starting with Garfield as a kitten living...

Napoleon director-producer Ridley Scott was on stage at Deadline’s Contenders London event to discuss the journey behind his latest epic and why he chose Joaquin Phoenix to portray the iconic Emperor.
Speaking about casting Oscar winner Phoenix, who he had previously worked with on Gladiator [in which Phoenix played another Emperor], filmmaking legend Scott told the audience that he had always viewed Phoenix’s character in that movie as “the most sympathetic character in Gladiator, being the product of such a neglectful father.”
He continued: “I was blown away by his outrageous film Joker. I didn’t like the way it celebrated violence but Joaquin was remarkable. I thought he’d be an amazing asset to Napoleon, [not only creatively] also in a commercial sense. There were only two actors I had in mind for the role. I won’t mention the other one.”

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, a fantastical feminist fable starring Emma Stone as a woman reanimated by a Frankenstein-style Victorian scientist (Willem Dafoe), has won the Golden Lion for best film at the 80th Venice International Film Festival.
The Hollywood Reporter critics praised the film — which includes a potentially career-defining performance by star Emma Stone as Isabella Baxter, the woman who struggles to understand the restrictive patriarchy of the world around her, and then proceeds to dismantle it.
In his acceptance speech, Lanthimos said it took a long time to make the movie, his first since 2018 Oscar winner The Favourite, “until the world, until our industry, was ready for this film.” He singled out Stone for praise.
“Above all, this film is the central character of Isabella Baxter, this incredible creature, and she wouldn’t exist without Emma Stone, another incredible creature. This film is her, in front and behind the camera.

After last week’s claustrophobic events in the late Logan Roy’s sepulchral New York apartment, Episode 5 of the final season of “Succession” sends his surviving kids and assorted Waystar executives out to play in the Norwegian wilderness.
A very posh section of it at least, with luxury cabin views of lush forests, fast-flowing streams and snow-capped mountains in all directions. But a feral place nonetheless for Kendall, Roman, Shiv and company to fight tooth-and-nail with Lukas Matsson and his GoJo team over how much the Swedish tech baron will pay to buy Waystar Royco. The episode is called “Kill List” for a reason, and not just because there’s an actual list.

Ridley Scott's long-awaited "Gladiator" sequel is starting to feel, well, quite a bit Irish. The sequel to the Best Picture winner of 2000 is loading up on talent after news first broke of the Best Actor-nominated Paul Mescal being cast as the lead of the historical epic. Well, it turns out that that was only the beginning.
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that actor Barry Keoghan is currently in talks to join the upcoming sequel to "Gladiator," which originally starred Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix in an epic melodrama set in and around the blood-soaked Coliseum in ancient Rome. Both actors went on to garner nominations for Best Actor (which Crowe handily won) and Best Supporting Actor, so there's definitely a fun parallel between Mescal and Keoghan -- both of whom were up for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively, at this year's Oscars -- now getting set to...

"Rick and Morty" is a series that thrives on introducing memorable one-off characters every episode. The season 5 premiere, "Mort Dinner Rick Andre," featured one of the most memorable yet: Mr. Nimbus, ruler of Atlantis and Rick's nemesis. Even though Rick treats their rivalry with embarrassment, Nimbus is the first character he's genuinely afraid of.
Voiced by series co-creator Dan Harmon, Nimbus is flamboyant and promiscuous, with a fondness for pelvic thrusts and referring to himself in the third person. He's also super-powered, being able to control water, sea life, and, somehow, the police. During the episode, Nimbus stops by the Smith house to negotiate a peace treaty to his feud with "Richard." Nimbus ends the episode as one of the only characters to have triumphed over Rick, sending him to jail while he has a one-night stand with Beth and Jerry.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga isn’t just the best Lego Star Wars game yet; it arguably belongs on any shortlist of the best Star Wars game ever. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t make the game just a little better with the help of a few codes.
Actually, one of the best things about the Lego Star Wars games (and most other Lego games) is that they still feature plenty of those classic codes that have sadly gone out of style in many other modern games. While we’re still waiting to see if Skywalker Saga features as many codes as its predecessors (more on that in a bit), fans of classic video game codes will still find plenty of them in what could prove to be the ultimate Lego Star Wars experience.

The end of WWII for Japan, and particularly the fact that some of its soldiers refused or did not received the order to surrender has been one of the most dramatic episodes in the country’s history, with Kazuo Hara’s “The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On” being one of the most impactful presentations of the concept in cinema. Arthur Harari moves in the same path, choosing to base his movie on the life of Hiroo Onoda, an Imperial Japanese Army intelligence officer who did not surrender at the war’s end in August 1945, but spent 29 years hiding in the Philippines until his former commander traveled from Japan to formally relieve him from duty by order of Emperor Showa in 1974. “Onoda” opened Cannes’ “Un Certain Regard” section in July 2021.

As the Hollywood blockbuster machine continues to dust itself off and release some early winter hits, Hulu is going in a bit of a different direction with its list of new releases for November 2021.
There are no big Hulu original films of note this month. Instead there’s a whole host of original series. The TV parade starts on Nov. 5 with the release of Animaniacs season 2. Also getting a second season this month is monarchal comedy The Great on Nov. 19. The most intriguing series, however, is animated Marvel comedy Marvel’s Hit Monkey. As its name so graciously implies, this is a show about a hit monkey…as in monkey assassin. Naturally the hit monkey is haunted by the ghost of Jason Sudeikis because it’s important that everything make sense.
Though Hulu doesn’t have any original movies in November, its list of library movie titles is quite vast.

‘Emperor’ Review: A Runaway Slave Joins the Raid on Harpers Ferry in Forgotten Tale of Black Heroism
As statues to Confederate heroes are torn down around the country, the question of whom to honor in their place poses an intriguing challenge — one that writer-director Mark Amin seems to have anticipated with his abolitionist adventure movie “Emperor.” Essentially a filmic monument to a scarcely documented American hero, “Emperor” tells the virtually unknown story of Shields Green, a descendant of African royalty who was born into slavery and later escaped, making it to freedom before risking his life in the attack on Harpers Ferry.
When history books speak of that famous raid, they tend to focus on John Brown, the white militant who planned the action hoping it would incite a slave uprising in the South — which gives an accurate but incomplete picture. “Emperor” re-centers the telling, broadening this early “white savior” story to include the Black men who joined the cause — or, in the case of Frederick Douglass,...

Sobini Films, the production company behind soon-to-released Shields Green biopic Emperor, said it will donate $1 for every digital transaction during the first month of film’s release to the NAACP. Set for a digital release on August 18, via Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, the film is based on the inspiring journey of Green, an American freedom fighter who escaped from slavery and joined the raid on Harper’s Ferry, the key battle of the abolitionist movement which helped spark the beginning of the Civil War and alter the course of American history. “All too often vital narratives, such as Emperor, are left out of Hollywood and our history books,” said Robin Harrison, director, NAACP Hollywood Bureau. “The NAACP is inspired by this portrayal of a true American hero and grateful for the opportunity to put the proceeds from the movie to use in our modern-day fight against systemic racism and racial injustice.

"You do this and you're dead!" "I'm already dead." Briarcliff Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for a historical epic film titled Emperor, yet another outlaw slave who fights back after escaping the chains. Dayo Okeniyi stars in the true story of Shields "Emperor" Green, a descendant of African kings, who escapes to the north and fights back in hopes of freeing his family. The cast includes Naturi Naughton, Kat Graham, Mykelti Williamson, Keean Johnson, Mykelti Williamson, James Cromwell, Paul Scheer, along with Bruce Dern. We've seen these kind of films before, one of the most prominent being The Birth of a Nation, but it's still badass to see these stories brought to the screen. The best part of this trailer is the bell tower explosion at the end. Enjoy. Hulu has released its list of content arriving at the streaming service this June, as well as everything that will no longer be available to watch there after June 30.
At the top of the must-watch list is season three of Hulu Original “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which was notably pushed back to a June premiere date in order to ensure it would “maintain the quality it has,” Craig Erwich, Hulu’s Senior Vice President of Originals, said at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in February. The first three episodes of the new season premiere on Hulu June 5, after which new episodes will be released every Wednesday.
Another Hulu Original of note is “The Weekly” series from The New York Times, coming June 3. Each half-hour episode will feature a Times journalist investigating one of today’s most pressing issues, with new issues being explored each week.
