Marvel has had a plethora of franchises over the years but none of them could come close to the popularity matched by Ghost Rider, featuring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze. The first film was released in 2007 which was a massive hit, and four years later, it got a strange sequel titled Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance. Though it was not a massive hit like the initial film, it was an intriguing watch as the film featured more action and watching Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze and his anti-hero avatar was an absolute blast.
Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze
It was heavily rumored that the character would have made its Marvel Cinematic Universe return in a TV Show. However, Marvel Studios decided to discard the character’s much-anticipated return as they butchered a number of popular titles that fans were looking forward to watching.

Netflix scored a big haul of Oscar nominations this year – 35 in total – putting the streamer in the top three for a studio in the history of the awards.
The company’s big cheeses, including co-CEOs Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos, were asked today, on their first-quarter financials video, out of these films, which did they most enjoy watching.
Founder Hastings plumped for Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, which scored six nominations, and was joined by investor relations chief Spencer Wang in the pick.
CFO Spencer Neumann and COO and Chief Product Officer Greg Peters both went for White Tiger, the Ramin Bahrani-directed film that starred Priyanka Chopra and Adarsh Gourav, which was nominated for best adapted screenplay.
Sarandos, best known in his role as Chief Content Officer, initially tried to “diplomatically” pass the question to Hastings, before finally answering with If Anything Happens I Love You,...

Priyanka Chopra is a real movie star—you got that? The White Tiger actress had a fierce comeback when one reporter claimed she and hubby Nick Jonas aren't big enough stars to announce the 2021 Oscar nominations. Peter Ford, who somewhat jokingly identifies as "the best & most widely heard entertainment reporter" in Australia and New Zealand, wrote on Twitter on Monday, March 15, "No disrespect to these two but I'm not sure their contribution to the movies qualifies them to be announcing Oscar nominees." Earlier in the day, Priyanka and Nick had revealed the nominees for the 2021 Oscars, and from Priyanka's perspective, they killed...

The reminders from the Motion Picture Academy and the distributors arrive daily: See the movies! Judge the work! Choose your favorite!
Reminders are relevant because there’s an absence of passion about this year’s awards season (Oscar nominations are due by 5 p.m. today). The reasons are obvious: We all miss the festivals, the premieres, the buzz. We miss the movies.
I have my own “best picture” favorite, but I’m hesitant about revealing it; voters seem wary this season.
In that context I find myself missing Green Book, a movie that at least got everyone talking (or arguing). Critics checked in to anger-management clinics when it collected its Oscars and Globes in 2019. The movie became the accidental prototype for the Academy’s’ “most popular” category – the idea that was shouted down a couple of years ago. Still, it ignited passion.

The White Tiger is a surprise nominee at the WGA
The Writers Guild of America will have their awards ceremony on March 21st, 2021 but today they announced their nominations. It's always a bit tricky to look at this in the context of the Oscars since the eligibility rules are different. Though the WGA also extended their eligibilty period to match with Oscar (as you'll see given a couple of their nominees), several key films each year are not eligible. You can't be nominated for a WGA unleses you're already a member of their guild; in other words at the WGA you'd never get a situation like, say, you had with Parasite winning the SAG Award. Furthermore animated films are not eligible for this prize but are obviously eligible at the Oscars; Shrek was nominated and Pixar has had 7 nominees: Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall•E,...

Exclusive: For nearly 15 years, director Ramin Bahrani and novelist Aravind Adiga shared a symbiotic relationship of inspiration that culminated into Netflix’s rags-to-riches drama The White Tiger.
Bahrani’s 2005 feature Man Push Cart inspired Adiga, a former Columbia University classmate, to write The White Tiger, a searing novel about one man’s determination to rise through the ranks of India’s caste system. Upon reading Adiga’s early drafts before White Tiger published in 2008, Bahrani knew he had to adapt it for the big screen.
“I had been reading the novel in draft form for four years before it was published. I was immediately riveted,” Bahrani said during the film’s panel for Deadline’s Contenders Film.
The White Tiger follows low-caste Balram (Adarsh Gourav) as he strives for upward mobility amid India and China’s growth as global superpowers. Hired to chauffeur affluent Americanized entrepreneur Ashok (Rajkumma Rao) and...

The IFC Films documentary MLK/FBI from filmmaker Sam Pollard makes its debut in select theaters today as well as on demand. The release aligns with Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18 and it is super relevant to America’s wild inequity and racist treatment of the Black community — specifically Black activists.
MLK/FBI made its world premiere last year at the Toronto International Film Festival and went on to play at the New York Film Festival. The riveting docu exposes J. Edgar Hoover and the U.S. government’s surveillance and harassment of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was labeled by the FBI as the “most dangerous” Black person in America.
Based on newly discovered and declassified files, as well as revelatory restored footage, the documentary explores the government’s history of targeting Black activists. Considering the insurrection that took place last...

When the August Wilson estate gave Denzel Washington the film rights to his 10-play Century Cycle, he brought them to Netflix Original Films chief Scott Stuber, who signed on to back them all.
The first, Wilson rookie and Public Theatre director George C. Wolfe’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” will clean up at the Oscars. Even though it’s set in 1920s Chicago, it’s timely in the way that it shows how simmering pain and anguish can explode. Wolfe wisely moved away from winter and leaned into pushing the film’s sweltering heat.
Actors will love Oscar winner Viola Davis (“Fences”) as the gold-toothed, hip-swaying, bosomy, sweat-drenched blues singer of the title, and never-nominated Chadwick Boseman (“Black Panther”) as her restless, go-getter trumpeter: he could follow Heath Ledger (“The Dark Knight”) and Peter Finch (“Network”) to win a posthumous Oscar.
That narrative will be hard for Academy actors to resist,...

“I’m just one who has woken up while the rest of you are still sleeping,” says the servant Balram (Adarsh Gourav) in the first trailer for the Netflix film “The White Tiger.” Based on the prestigious Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name by Aravind Adiga, the film chronicles Balram’s rags-to-riches life story against the backdrop of India’s globalizing economy and political corruption. “The White Tiger” will debut in select theaters in December and drops on the streaming service in January. Watch the teaser trailer above.
Though the opening scenes of the trailer highlight the film’s humor — Balram praises the blatantly poor tennis skills of his master Ashok (Rajkummar Rao), saying he could “represent India in the Olympics” — the tenor changes when Ashok’s wife Pinky Madam (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) asks Balram about his higher aspirations. As August comes to a close, the state of the Oscar race remains very much in flux. The awards season itself is still to be determined, given the Covid-19 pandemic that’s still causing havoc in the United States, so what becomes of the Academy Awards is very much a question mark. However, there almost certainly will be a ceremony, so there will be nominees and winners, coronavirus be damned. So, we press on with predictions. However, given how light the fall film festival season is looking to be, it’s going to be harder to determine with movies and performances are true players. The precursors will have to do that for us. As such, the films and individuals listed below haven’t changed much, at least this time around. However, the potential for a lot of change is definitely there, so keep that in mind. Here are some new...

While Netflix had the foresight to see that this year’s awards race was not (as they usually are) going to be launched by the fall film festivals, that does not mean that the streamer is going to back off from awards campaigning. Instead, the streaming giant is already crafting a robust awards slate with both original features and earlier festival pickups, and plans to use New York’s Paris Theatre and Los Angeles’ The Egyptian as their promo and release hubs. And Netflix just added a sharp arrow to their awards quiver, plucking the worldwide rights to Aaron Sorkin’s all-star ensemble “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” originally to be released in September by Paramount and overseas distributors, for a reported $56 million.
Over at Netflix, that’s chump change. Paramount, on the other hand, could use the money, as the studio can’t show movies in theaters during the pandemic.

As awards groups adjust to the evolving post-pandemic reality, so will the studios. And the first up is everyone’s favorite Oscar insurgent, Netflix: While it will provide sponsorship for some major festivals in 2020, it’s not planning to send any of their films or talent to attend them.
Among the titles this removes from the circuit are David Fincher’s “Mank,” starring Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried; Ron Howard’s “Hillbilly Elegy,” starring Amy Adams; Charlie Kaufman’s “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” starring Toni Collette and Jesse Plemons; George C. Wolfe’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” starring Viola Davis, Denzel Washington, and Chadwick Boseman; Radha Blank’s Sundance debut “The 40-Year-Old Version”; and Ramin Bahrani’s “White Tiger.”
In any other year, this might seem unthinkable. The Telluride, Venice, Toronto, and New York film festivals are primary launching pads for Oscar-season movies and are considered as the...

We’re had to wait seven weeks to see the return of one of the best vocalists on season 3 of the “The Masked Singer”: the Turtle. He, along with the other Top 3 in Group A — the Kangaroo and the White Tiger — made the cut back on February 12. On the special two-hour edition of “The Masked Singer” on April 1, they competed along with the best of Group B and Group C.
Each is hoping to win enough votes from the studio audience to stay in the competition and make it to the quarter-finals. Of this Super 9, the Turtle is the one who has most confounded the four judges. We are sure that they are wrong with their guesses that the Turtle is either Jenny McCarthy‘s husband Donnie Wahlberg or his New Kids on the Block bandmate Joey McIntyre.

The Kangaroo last appeared on “The Masked Singer” way back on February 12. Back then she made the Top 3 in Group A. On the April 1 episode, she and the other two remaining contestants from Group A joined the trio of talent from each of Group B and Group C. They took to the stage as the Super 9.
Of these nine contenders for the Golden Mask, the Kangaroo has one of the strongest voices. She has impressed the four judges with each of her performances: a lively version of Robyn‘s dance hit “Dancing On My Own”; the Amy Winehouse classic “You Know I’m No Good”; and Rihanna‘s chart-topping “Diamonds.”
