- Emily Thorne: Trust is a difficult thing, whether it's finding the right people to trust or trusting the right people to do the wrong thing. But trusting your heart is the riskiest thing of all. In the end, the only person we can truly trust is ourself.
- Daniel Grayson: [arriving home to find girlfriend there] Emily?
- Emily Thorne: Hi!
- Daniel Grayson: Hi! What's going on?
- Emily Thorne: Honey, your mother invited me over for tea.
- Victoria Grayson: [at the sight of her son's drenched after-sport physique] Daniel, for God's sake, pull yourself together! You're a sweaty brute!
- Daniel Grayson: [to Emily] My apologies. Had I known my mother had summoned you, I'd have looked at least 50% less brutish.
- Emily Thorne: No, it's fine. I should get going, really. I have to work out some issues with my realtor. Things got a little aggressive in our bidding war today.
- [picks up cellphone, checks e-mail]
- Victoria Grayson: [false] Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Will you be on the hunt for a fallback rental, or are you headed back to the city?
- Emily Thorne: Actually, as of this e-mail, I have just become the new owner of the beach house.
- [causing Victoria obvious disappointment]
- Daniel Grayson: That's great news. Congratulations.
- Emily Thorne: Thank you.
- Daniel Grayson: Now how about I make good on that date and take you out to celebrate?
- Emily Thorne: That sounds great. How about tomorrow?
- Daniel Grayson: Yeah, tomorrow's perfect. I know just the place. Come on, I'll walk you out.
- Emily Thorne: Thank you so much for the tea, Mrs. Grayson. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this.
- [Victoria looks at her, contemplating her next move]
- Frank Stevens: [limousine pick-up for Lydia, security chief opening car door for her] Ms. Davis.
- Lydia Davis: Thanks for picking me up on the street corner like a prostitute.
- Conrad Grayson: [on cellphone inside car] Yeah, all right. Don't send anyone through for the next half-hour, Sharon. I'll return calls when I'm back at the office.
- Lydia Davis: So you do still return calls.
- Conrad Grayson: Lydia, I understand, you're upset.
- Lydia Davis: I'm not upset.
- [hands him a large folder]
- Lydia Davis: I'm ruined.
- Conrad Grayson: What is this?
- Lydia Davis: [telephoto lens pictures taken through the window of her secret liaison, shows illicit romance] Michael's attorney presented these to the judge. And they triggered the fidelity clause in our prenup.
- [several damning photographs]
- Lydia Davis: I get nothing. The beach house, my jewelry, the damn dog... Everything is gone.
- Conrad Grayson: I am sorry, Lydia, but, really, what can I do?
- Lydia Davis: [resolute] You can write me a cheque. A big one.
- [last lines]
- Emily Thorne: [voice-over] In the end, the only person we can trust, is ourselves.
- [then, to the person she used to be:]
- Emily Thorne: Happy birthday, Amanda.
- [blows out single candle perched atop muffin]
- Conrad Grayson: [clandestine meeting with former mistress] Lydia, I understand you're upset.
- Lydia Davis: I'm not upset.
- [hands over folder]
- Lydia Davis: I'm ruined.
- Conrad Grayson: What's this?
- [leafs through content]
- Lydia Davis: Michael's attorney presented these to the judge, and they triggered the fidelity clause in our prenup.
- [photos show Lydia and Conrad's illicit amorous get-together]
- Lydia Davis: I get nothing.
- [shakes her head]
- Lydia Davis: The beach house. My jewelery. The damn dog. Everything is gone.
- Conrad Grayson: I'm sorry, Lydia, really, I am. But what can I do about it?
- Lydia Davis: You can write me a check. A big one.
