Tish Cyrus, mother to actress and pop star Miley Cyrus and HopeTown Entertainment president, has set her production banner’s executive team and is announcing its initial slate of projects under its recent first-look TV deal with NBCU Television and Streaming. November is the last month of the year for sensible viewing, before our TV screens become full-time broadcasters of golden retrievers saving Christmas and Will Ferrell wearing tights. Take the opportunity then, to get some good stuff in before the festivities.
In terms of good stuff, Netflix is offering the second series of the brilliantly wry and surprisingly touching The End of the F***ing World for any UK viewers who didn’t catch it on Channel 4. There’s also the excellent animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (we loved it. 5 stars.) as well as Boots Riley’s inventive, funny, political satire Sorry to Bother You (we also loved it. 4.5 stars.) On top of that, you can take a nostalgic trip to Capeside with all six seasons of Dawson’s Creek or watch emotionally repressed royals deal with the advent of the 1980s in season four of The Crown.

“A Star Is Born” opens this weekend as one of the most anticipated releases of 2018. The film’s title may as well refer to its lead actress, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lady Gaga, whose previous movie experience came from brief appearances in two Robert Rodriguez films. Her reviews are rapturous and she’s a leading contender for a Best Actress Oscar nomination, all of which could make her the biggest singing crossover since Barbra Streisand.
Hollywood hasn’t seen a singer become a breakout success since Whitney Houston in 1992 — although many have tried. John Singleton’s 1993 “Poetic Justice” featured Janet Jackson opposite Tupac Shakur, which grossed $61 million. She costarred with Eddie Murphy in “The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps” ($212 million), and was part of a Tyler Perry ensemble in two “Why Did I Get Married” films.

When you aren’t carrying the weight of a superhero tentpole franchise on your shoulders, it turns out you can get a whole lot more done. Following the Chris Evans-led Gifted in April, Marc Webb‘s second film of 2017 will be arriving just a few months after in August with The Only Living Boy in New York. Ahead of the release Amazon Studios have now unveiled the first trailer.
Scripted by Allan Loeb (who is on some sort of unfortunate streak with The Space Between Us, Collateral Beauty, So Undercover, Here Comes the Boom, Rock of Ages, and, well, the list goes on…), hopefully this one is an uptick for the writer, even if the trailer sells a fairly chintzy feel-good dramedy — one that seems to be skipping a festival debut. Starring Kate Beckinsale, Pierce Brosnan, Kiersey Clemons, Cynthia Nixon, Callum Turner, and Jeff Bridges, check out the trailer below.

Miley Cyrus is returning to a TV series, and this time it's starring alongside Woody Allen for a show he is creating for Amazon. As Deadline reports, the six half-hour episode series is set in the 1960s.
Allen is slated to star, script and direct the as-yet untitled project, which also stars actress/comedian Elaine May. He and May worked together previously in Small Time Crooks, and it will be his first time working with Cyrus. The show begins shooting in March.
Cyrus is no stranger to acting and comedy.

Recent tabloids suggest things are not going swimmingly for Will Smith at home, so constant work may benefit the former Fresh Prince's good spirits. He's got Concussion coming this Christmas, Suicide Squad still in production and now, in just a matter of months, he's got the lead role in Collateral Beauty, the highly buzzed-about Me & Earl & the Dying Girl follow-up for director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, to keep his mind preoccupied at the moment. Smith takes the role from fellow superhero star Hugh Jackman, who departed last month from the role he received in June due to his final Wolverine commitments in James Mangold's 2017 sequel. Rumors persisted on Johnny Depp taking the turn, as part of his dramatic comeback expected to kickstart with this fall's Black Mass and, while the filmmakers did court the actor at some point in time, he either turned it down or Smith edged him out. Smith...

Although Hugh Jackman will soon say goodbye to Wolverine with X-Men: Apocalypse and James Mangold's upcoming Wolverine sequel, in the process of putting away the claws the actor has to give away some other roles in the meantime. That would include the lead role in Alfonso Gomez-Rejon's much talked-about Me & Earl & the Dying Girl follow-up Collateral Beauty, also starring Rooney Mara. It was only last month when the Aussie actor signed onto the project, but time commitments apparently won't let Jackman play the role when production begins this fall. Producers don't seem too discouraged, though, for they've taken their efforts towards bagging another big-name star: Johnny Depp. Even if the Mortdecai's star seems to be fading these days, Depp does have the buzzed Black Mass coming up, in addition to another Pirates of the Caribbean sequel set for release in two years time. So don't rule out a comeback,...

I'm going to do music for the rest of my life.'" The movie Cyrus was referring to is So Undercover, which also starred Jeremy Piven, Kelly Osbourne and Josh...

Silver Linings Playbook; The Man with the Iron Fists; So Undercover
The prospect of an off-kilter romcom directed by troublesome auteur David O Russell and dealing variously with bereavement, mental illness, marital breakdown and competitive dancing may set alarm bells ringing. Certainly there were those who saw Russell's Oscar-feted latest as a shamelessly manipulative bid for awards glory, a claim which appeared to be backed up when the best picture nods started rolling in. Yet despite suspicions to the contrary, Silver Linings Playbook (2012, Entertainment, 15) is neither cynical nor muddle-headed – indeed, you would have to be pretty cynically muddle-headed to see it as such. It's an unexpectedly winning tragicomedy about ordinary people trapped in tales of everyday madness, although that description does the movie the injustice of making it sound terribly po-faced, which it most definitely is not.

Since leaving Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus has tried her hardest to distance herself from her wholesome image. She pole-danced on an ice cream truck, played a bratty teenager in The Last Song, and recently wore a strapless bra as a shirt on Leno. Now, I'm not interested in shaming Cyrus or her personal decisions because I can only imagine what it must have been like to grow up in the spotlight. She can wear whatever she wants to wear, and regardless of their quality, there are plenty of great actors who got their starts in Nicholas Sparks films. In the midst of this awkward period, though, Cyrus was in one of the ugliest, most anti-woman movies I have ever seen wrapped up as a Legally Blonde knock-off, the straight-to-dvd “comedy” So Undercover.

Sneak Peek actress, singer Miley Cyrus in a revealing photo shoot for the February 2013 issue of "Cosmopolitan" magazine.
Inspired by acting after watching her father Billy Ray Cyrus on the set of the Toronto-lensed TV series "Doc", Miley's breakthrough was the role of 'Miley Stewart', aka 'Hannah Montana' on the Disney Channel sitcom "Hannah Montana" (2006-2011).
In 2007, Cyrus signed to Hollywood Records to pursue a solo career, staging the "Best of Both Worlds Tour", performing as herself and in character as Hannah Montana. The tour evolved into the concert film, "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert" (2008).

Miley Cyrus works hard for that bangin' body, so she might as well show it off! In PopSugar's exclusive clip from So Undercover, Liam Hemsworth's lingerie-clad fiancée bares her bra and reveals her toned tummy. In the flick, pre-haircut Miley plays a private investigator who goes undercover as a sorority girl. In this scene, she almost blows her cover when she doesn't have quite the same hopes and dreams as the other sisters. She saves face, however, when she saccharinely claims to want a "pearl white Bentley" like all the other girls. Hm. So Undercover is available on DVD and Blu-ray Feb. 5.

Miley Cyrus smiled while out for a walk in sunny La yesterday. She has plenty of reasons to look relaxed and happy since she's just returned home from a Costa Rica vacation with her husband-to-be, Liam Hemsworth, and her future brother- and sister-in-law, Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky. While away, Miley Cyrus was in her bikini for multiple beach outings. Whether cuddling with Liam on the sand or having a solo yoga session, Miley made sure to log time near the surf. The rest will come in handy since Miley has a wedding to prep for - she's denied rumors that she and Liam are already married, despite her repeatedly calling him her "hubby" in interviews. Also, Miley's got a new movie on the way. Her So Undercover will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, Feb. 5 - check out our exclusive So Undercover clip now! View Slideshow...

Festive battle for No 1 heats up as first instalment of Peter Jackson's Middle-earth epic precipitates a fall of the Guardians
The winner
Peter Jackson and Jrr Tolkien have consistently proved a potent combination at the box office, so it's no surprise to see audiences turning up in droves for the first of three films based on The Hobbit. However a haul of £11.60m in four days is far from record-breaking, and isn't even the biggest opening of 2012. Skyfall debuted in late October with £20.18m, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 followed a month later with £15.85m. Both titles achieved these sums in three days with no previews, as did The Dark Knight Rises when it opened in July with £14.36m. Marvel Avengers Assemble kicked off with £15.78m over its initial four days. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has thus only achieved the fifth-best opening of the year.

Rise of the Guardians has topped the UK box office on its second weekend on release. DreamWorks Animation's festive movie, featuring the voices of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin and Isla Fisher, takes in £1.6 million from its 495 locations to knock Skyfall into second place. Seven Psychopaths is the only new release to trouble the top ten, earning £1.1 million to land in third place. Twilight finale Breaking Dawn - Part 2, while Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger! is close behind at number five. The likes of So Undercover, The Man with the Iron Fists, The Oranges and Celeste and Jesse Forever all opened last week, but failed to make a dent in the top ten. The most successful was Miley Cyrus's teen comedy, which landed at number 14 with just £99,340 from 283 UK locations. (more)...

DreamWorks Animation's fantasy caper causes sun to set on Twilight, ahead of The Hobbit's expected journey to first place
The winner
For most movies, a successful opening weekend is vital for hanging on to play dates and show times. With Christmas flicks, it's more of a steady jog than a sprint, and cinema bookers understand that playability will be strong right through to 24 December, and particularly solid after schools break up for the holiday. DreamWorks Animation's Rise of the Guardians hardly turned heads when it landed in third place last week, behind Skyfall and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.
Now it's top of the heap, thanks to a slender decline of just 19%. Three-day takings of £1.60m push the 10-day tally to £4.06m. Fellow festive offering Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger! fell an almost identical amount (20%) and has totalled £4.38m after 17 days. It now remains to be seen how...

Seven Psychopaths (15)
(Martin McDonagh, 2012, Us) Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson, Abbie Cornish, Tom Waits. 110 mins
It's a cult movie formula to die for: Pulp Fiction meets the Coens meets Adaptation, with postmodern high-jinks, wacky crime thrills and lashings of irreverent comedy. The latter redeems a movie that's almost too manically clever for its own good. Reality barely enters into this story of a blocked screenwriter caught up in a dognapping escapade, but there's never a dull moment. Perhaps it could do with a few.

There are some good lines, but this Miley Cyrus college/cop comedy is as derivative as it gets
Super-sleuth Molly Moris (Miley Cyrus) makes her living taking covert snaps of cheaters, until an FBI agent (Entourage's Jeremy Piven) recruits her to infiltrate a college sorority. Molly's there to protect a gangster's daughter, but she gets tangled up in the sisterhood – the pledges, the parties, the bitchiness, the lexicon. So Undercover totes bites Mean Girls in its fish-out-of-water feistiness, obvs owes a debt to Never Been Kissed with its back-to-school conceit and thinks 21 Jump Street's broad action comedy is pretty amazeballs, too. There are some clever lines (Molly's alias, Brooke Stonebridge, "sounds like a gated community"), but Cyrus seems bored, as if ready to jump ship to another movie. Ironic, given how derivative much of So Undercover is: it's Beverly Hills Top Shop Cop.

Due out in the UK this Friday, So Undercover stars the ever-popular Miley Cyrus in the lead, continuing to diversify her credits here with an action-comedy co-starring the brilliant Jeremy Piven (Entourage).
We saw the first trailer for the film back in October, followed a few weeks ago by the first TV spot, and now Warner Bros. have released a new clip, with its release very much on the horizon.
“When the FBI hires her to go undercover at a college sorority, Molly Morris (Miley Cyrus) must transform herself from a tough, streetwise private investigator to a refined, sophisticated university girl to help protect the daughter of a one-time Mobster. With several suspects on her list, Molly unexpectedly discovers that not everyone is who they appear to be, including herself.”

Not many films find themselves topping the box office chart on the sixth week of release, but that is exactly what Skyfall has just achieved, elbowing aside The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 after its two-week reign at the summit. With a reasonable drop of 41% from the previous weekend, Skyfall posted three-day takings of £2.28m for a 38-day total of £93.77m. With Monday and Tuesday box office now announced by Sony, the film has achieved 40-day takings of £94.28m, overtaking previous UK record holder Avatar (£94.03m). Mild ticket-price inflation favours the Bond film, but Skyfall has reached its awesome tally without the benefit of 3D premium prices. Now all eyes are on whether Skyfall can be the first film to crack £100m at UK cinemas.
