Batman: The Animated Series was a truly one-of-a-kind show that received worldwide love and fame. The series writer Henry Gilroy was praised for his writing skills that helped create the 2-D version of Batman into a full-fledged character with depth and intensity.
At that time, the U.S. military was not looking good because of what happened in the Middle East. Wanting to change public opinion, Henry Gilroy helped develop a U.S. military-centric series that went on to become quite a fantastic take on the franchise of G.I. Joe.

Batman: The Animated Series aired from 1992 to 1995 and the world loved it. With iconic voice actor Kevin Conroy voicing the role of Batman opposite Star Wars fame Mark Hamill as the Joker, the series received high ratings and is still a much-remembered show.

There have been a lot of "Transformers" cartoons since 1984. Most of them (and I say this as a fan) are pretty unimpressive. One of the best ones is "Transformers: Animated," which aired from 2007 to 2009 on Cartoon Network. Network executive Sam Register created the series like it was "Teen Titans" with robots. Register even recruited one of that show's character designers, the late Derrick J. Wyatt, resulting in a similar art style.
"Animated" broke away from past series' tenets, transforming them you might say — the show's team even cast Megatron voice actor extraordinaire David Kaye as Optimus Prime instead. The series was explicitly pitched as "more like a superhero show than a 'Transformers' show" (read the original production bible here for many tantalizing insights and scrapped ideas). The Autobots each had unique powers and faced off against human villains; against the Decepticons, they were definite underdogs.

Toys have been a part of marketing for shows and films for a long time. The Masters of the Universe line of action figures came before the animated series, as we learned in the Netflix docuseries "The Toys That Made Us." The first "Star Wars" film toys were part of a mail-away campaign in 1978 before they were ready to be shipped. Toy marketing has also caused controversy in the past. Just think of the #WheresRey campaign when her figure was left out of a "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Monopoly set.
According to an interview /Film's own Rafael Motomayor did with animation writer Henry Gilroy, toys were a big reason for the cancelation of his animated series "G.I. Joe: Renegades." The show ran on The Hub from 2010 through 2011 for a single 26-episode season before being scrapped.

How The Canceled Second Season Of G.I. Joe: Renegades Gave The G.I. Joe Movie Its Cliffhanger Ending
"G.I. Joe" hasn't endured the way its 1980s boys' toy franchise contemporaries "Transformers" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" have. Whenever one "Transformers" or "Tmnt" cartoon ends, a new one pops on the air in no time at all, whereas the most recent "Joe" cartoon, "Renegades," ended in 2011.
Of these three series, "G.I. Joe" is the one most tied to its era of origin. The 1980s were a more conservative and patriotic time in the United States. As new episodes of "A Real American Hero" aired every Saturday morning, the Cold War was reaching its anti-climax. "Transformers" and "Tmnt" have both proven capable of reinventing themselves "G.I. Joe" has its eccentricities (such as the rival ninjas Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow), but it's ultimately boxed into its military theme. "G.I. Joe" is basically "Team America: World Police" minus the comedy, and that's not as fashionable anymore.

“Thunder….Thunder….ThunderCats! Hooooooooooooo!”
If just hearing those words gave you a Pavlovian impulse to grab a Rubik’s cube and some bagel bites, you are not alone. Although never as popular as a say G.I. Joe or a Jem, ThunderCats was another successful cartoon series based on a popular toy line — in this case one in which alien felines squared off against an evil mummy. Because 1980s, awesome.
Debuting in syndication in 1985 and usually scheduled in after school time slots alongside shows like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Transformers, M.A.S.K. and, er, Heathcliff, the show’s initial run spawned 130 episodes of feline inter-spacial conflict. Music is an integral part of filmmaking, moving the story and touching the audience. Where would iconic movies such as Star Wars, Avatar, The Godfather, or Gone with the Wind be without its music? Would Downton Abbey, Dexter, or House of Cards be the same and have audiences glued to their TVs without music? Would gamers immerse into Final Fantasy or Legend of Zelda if they were silent? Movie music has moved us all to cheer, cry, and fall in love for more than 100 years. Yet the vast majority of composers hired to create this vital part of Hollywood’s cultural landscape have been men. Well, that musical glass ceiling is about to crack!

After responding to Optimus Prime’s call for Autobots to come to Earth, the last team of Rescue Bots arrive and are tasked with becoming human anthropologists while disguising themselves as a first response rescue team. Such is the premise for the most recent Transformers adaptation that recently finished its first season on the Hasbro and Discovery TV network The Hub. The Rescue Bots are paired with members of the Burns family to protect the town of Griffin Rock in Maine from disasters.
Although the Bots vow to keep a low profile, young Cody Burns (Elan Garfias) quickly discovers that these chic new rescue vehicles are actually alien robots. By the end of the pilot, “Family of Heroes,” Cody has become the communications officer for the team as well as the bots’ own liaison to the disgruntled members of his family. Though it’s nice to look back on nostalgia and find that your memories of a classic cartoon stand up to the test of time and your (hopefully) more mature palette, the majority of the classic G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero cartoons fail to do so. Unlike the Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which had constant reinventions every few years, G.I. Joe fell largely into the background for many years and ceased to be a popular franchise with new generations; so much so that even the recent live-action movie failed to spur new interest. These circumstances make the overall successful storytelling and characterizations of G.I. Joe: Renegades, the first truly great and (so far) consistent G.I. Joe cartoon, all the more pleasing.

The Movie Pool goes Awol for the G.I. Joe: Renegades Season One Blu-ray!
The Set-up
This latest incarnation of the iconic G.I. Joe franchise follows a group of modern-day soldiers who go rogue after being framed as terrorists by an evil corporation called Cobra.
The Delivery
This Blu-ray set includes all 26 episodes of the outstanding animated series that premiered in November 2010 on The Hub TV network. Our initial review of the Renegades Season One, Volume One DVD set (which you can read here) pointed out a lot that we liked about this new take on G.I. Joe, and some things that we didn't like. Thankfully, having taken in a full season of the show, the pluses far outweigh the minuses.
Utilizing the original characters introduced in the classic A Real American Hero animated series of the 1980s, this new spin takes a handful of core characters (Duke, Scarlett,...

With G.I. Joe: Retaliation getting pushed back until next March, fans are trying to find other ways to satisfy their hunger for the franchise. Shout Factory is doing their very best to comply with the release of not one but two animated collections of different G.I. Joe TV shows. We get something old and something newer.
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero - Series 2, Season 2 collects all 20 episodes of this 1991 show on three discs. This was not produced by Sunbow, but Dic and it shows in the animation quality. Also to be noted is the change in voice cast that took place. It also focuses on new characters for the most part. A few original characters are left including General Hawk, Duke, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, and Destro.
Gone is the familiar "A Real American Hero" theme song, which is replaced by one that mentions America once instead of several times.

Anime has never been a big passion of mine even though I do enjoy Manga, especially the alternative gekiga stories. With anime though, there seems to be something that’s lost in the translation for me; perhaps it’s the scenes filled with sparse dialogue and a lack of score. Too much is left in the subtext or some symbolism flies by that I don’t have the proper context to understand. I don’t get that same puzzling feeling with foreign films because at some point I can gather what it is that is hidden or get a sense of it by the end. Anime can just leave you hanging at times. I’ll admit, I may not be intelligent enough to understand anime on first viewings; I don’t always go back with repeat viewings to get that comprehensive feeling. Don’t get me wrong,...

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.
