Ferguson was arrested on January 9 following a report that he broke into the alleged victim’s home, who is his estranged wife. After punching some walls, Ferguson then attacked her by grabbing her neck and threatening to kill her. Ferguson allegedly stole her credit cards and ID.
The same day the attack took place, a protective order against Ferguson was granted to the victim.
“Darnell and his wife are separated, and are working together to find a new balance for their family,” his lawyer told the New York Post. “They had a disagreement on January 2 that was subsequently reported to the authorities in a misleading and false manner.”

Die Hart: The Movie is a comedy movie directed by Eric Appel
Kevin Hart pokes fun at his supporting role in action movies and signs up for an action actor’s school with John Travolta as his instructor.
Funny… but only just
And if we were worse people we’d say it’s almost close to a B-movie that doesn’t deserve its stars.
With John Travolta, Nathalie Emmanuel, Josh Hartnett and Jean Reno.
Movie Review
A film that looks promising but disappoints you very quickly.
It barely holds up for the first ten or fifteen minutes, when Hart is interviewed. Then, it becomes not much or even just nothing at all, an anecdotal film, video-club fodder in bygone times, one of those movies that no one had heard of and that were rented without thinking too much about it and from which little was expected anyway.
Other than someone learning what Chrome Keying is…...

"I never use filters on here," she said, referring to the platform. "I've had no other modifications done to my body or face. I've had no—despite what everyone thinks—lip filler in my life. I have no fillers in my face. Not that there is anything wrong with...

Though Marvel has decided to consolidate all of its cinematic universe offerings onto Disney+, some outliers still live on for other streaming services. In May 2021, Hulu is set to premiere the latest non-canon Marvel series.
The animated comedy Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is set to premiere on May 21 and stars Patton Oswalt as the titular Marvel villain. Oswalt’s Modok is every bit the devious floating head that he’s depicted as in the comics. He’s also your every day family man and the show will take on the format of a workplace sitcom. Sounds kinda fun! It’s no wonder that M.O.D.O.K. is the last Hulu Marvel show standing.
In non-Marvel offerings this month, Shrill will debut its third and final season on May 7. This comedy based on Lindy West’s memoir and starring SNL‘s Aidy Bryant has been a consistently bright presence on the streaming scene since...

With Lovecraft Country still providing HBO and HBO Max with its horror content through October, the streamer is looking elsewhere for its spooky season offerings. HBO Max’s new releases for October 2020 feature some truly awesome horror library titles.
Jordan Peele’s Us, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and David Fincher’s Se7en all arrive on Oct. 1. That alone should be enough to last you through spooky season. And if it doesn’t, It: Chapter Two is right there as well. October is also a big month for Batman and Superman with Man of Steel arriving on Oct. 1 along with a whole of animated specials dropping that same day.
In relation to the library titles, this isn’t HBO Max’s strongest month from an original perspective. But there is still plenty to like here. The West Wing election special arrives on Oct. 15. That will be followed by David Byrne...

HBO Max is serving up a lot of great new movies this October. Fittingly for the spooky season, the Warner Bros. streaming service is adding a fair few classic horrors to its library next month, but there’s really something for everyone going up – from comedies to romances to sci-fi to superhero films.
Speaking of that last genre, DC lovers will be pleased to note that 2013’s Man of Steel, the movie that kicked off the Dceu, is among the titles arriving on October 1st. Besides that, there’s a bunch of animated DC pics dropping the same day, including Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and All-Star Superman. 2005’s Constantine featuring Keanu Reeves, meanwhile, also debuts on the service from the 1st.

The last wide entries of 2019 hit tracking today with projections for the 5-day Christmas holiday as follows: 20th Century Fox/Blue Sky’s animated feature Spies in Disguise ($23M-$30M), Sony’s Greta Gerwig directed Little Women ($19M-$35M), and A24’s Adam Sandler crime thriller Uncut Gems ($15M).
Distribution sources always say that people don’t begin to go to the movies until after Christmas, however, Disney’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the exception to that rule. All the rage right now in CGI is digital de-aging, the act of making an actor look decades younger (or sometimes older) on screen by digitally smoothing out wrinkles and tightening jaw lines. Why hope that a young, untested actor can be convincing as a lookalike Samuel L. Jackson when we have the real thing right here? Imagine photoshopping a picture for a magazine, but now do that over and over for every scene of a movie. It’s not a complicated process, and the technology hasn’t advanced drastically dating back to the first instance in 2006, but the VFX artists have matured to the point that filmmakers can go entire movies with a de-aged actor rather than just a few scenes. Here are just a few actors who have gone under the digital knife.

Exclusive: CAA has signed iconic actor, writer, director and producer Sylvester Stallone and his Balboa Productions.
Stallone had been with Wme. He is coming off a reprise of his Rocky Balboa character in Creed 2. This after getting a Best Supporting Actor nom for Creed, which occurred 40 years after his first Oscar nom for the original Rocky. He also got a Best Original Screenplay nom that year when Rocky shocked Hollywood by beating out films including Network, Taxi Driver and All the President’s Men for Best Picture. That was only the second time an actor got nominated for the same role and the time span between Stallone’s nominations was unprecedented.
Stallone next reprises another iconic character when Rambo: Last Blood opens September 20 for Lionsgate, bound to extend the $728 million that the Rambo series has grossed worldwide. Stallone also created and stars in The Expendables franchise, which has grossed over $800 million globally.

Anticipation is high for “Joker,” Todd Phillips’ grim take on the DC Comics super villain with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role, in part because Phoenix’s take on the character seems to have more in common with Martin Scorsese crime movies than anything in recent superhero cinema. As if to help that comparison along, Robert De Niro can be glimpsed in the latest trailer as a TV talk show host named Murray Franklin.
With the movie set in 1981, and Phoenix playing the future Joker as a struggling comedian with aspirations of stardom, it doesn’t take a genius to connect the dots with Scorsese’s “The King of Comedy.” In an interview with IndieWire, De Niro confirmed that his role was a nod to that earlier performance.

Second Act is a comedy in the vein of Working Girl and Maid In Manhattan. Jennifer Lopez stars as Maya, a 40-year-old woman struggling with frustrations from unfulfilled dreams. Until, that is, she gets the chance to prove to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as book smarts, and that it is never too late for a Second Act.
Peter Segal director of such comedic juggernauts in Get Smart, The Longest Yard and Nutty Professor II: The Klumps follows on from his latest 2013 semi-dramatic comedic boxing film Grudge Match with a Jennifer Lopez feministic inspired dramedy Second Act. With the new year underway, this weekend sees three new releases vying for a spot in the top ten, though once again not one of them is likely to dethrone Aquaman from the weekend's top spot, which is where WB's latest entry into the DC Extended Universe looks to remain for the fourth straight weekend in a row. As for the week's new releases, Stx will debut The Upside, a remake of 2012's global hit The Intouchables, into over 3,000 theaters; Sony will give family's a new option with A Dog's Way Home; and Entertainment Studios debuts the Keanu Reeves thriller Replicas. At the same time Focus will go nationwide with the release of On the Basis of Sex after two weeks in limited release and Annapurna will do the same with If Beale Street Could Talk. After holding on even better than expected last weekend, look for WB's Aquaman...

Didn't fluffy-minded workplace rom-coms lose their luster in the late 1980's? One would not think so given the emergence of another Jennifer Lopez marshmallow vehicle in the millennium-age Working Girl knockoff Second Act. Rest assure that neither Working Girl collaborators in Oscar-nominated star Melanie Griffith or late director Mike Nichols will lose sleep over filmmaker Peter Segal's slapdish copycat that just quite does not have the cohesiveness or clever wit to elevate this sluggish blue-collar vs. corporate romancer to its credible core. Contrived, patchy, and meandering, Second Act cannot solve the lingering mystery behind J Lo's penchant for queasy comedy romances that have butchered her film career from duds such as Maid in America to Monster-in-Law (the horrible Gigi not withstanding). Screenwriters Justin Zackham and Elaine...

Anyone want a pretty package of rom-com fluff for the holidays? You won’t hear shout-outs to Second Act on late-breaking Top 10 lists, but this sweet and sassy confection, directed by Peter Segal (Grudge Match), delivers miles of smiles tied up in a bow. You wouldn’t be wrong if you’re thinking this wish-fulfillment tale of a working-class woman bum-rushing the corporate world is trying to be a Working Girl for millennials. And while it can’t deliver the boundary-pushing kick of that seminal 1988 Melanie Griffith-vs.-the glass ceiling smash,...

"Don't confuse this Facebook thing with who you really are." Stx Ent. has debuted the first official trailer for a comedy titled Second Act, the latest feature film from veteran comedy director Peter Segal. Second Act is about a big box store worker named Maya, played by Jennifer Lopez, who reinvents her life and her life-story and shows Madison Avenue what street smarts can do. My eyes are rolling already just reading this description. Just wait until you see the footage in the trailer, oh yes, it's even worse. The cast includes Milo Ventimiglia, Vanessa Hudgens, Leah Remini, Charlyne Yi, Freddie Stroma, Treat Williams, Dave Foley, and Larry Miller. This is definitely not for me, but maybe some others will perhaps enjoy it. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Peter Segal's Second Act, direct from Stx's YouTube: Second Act is a comedy in the vein of ...

Production begins today in Philadelphia on Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Creed II, starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone, reprising their roles of Adonis Creed and Rocky Balboa respectively. Creed II is the continuation of the Rocky saga and sequel to the 2015 critically acclaimed and crowd-pleasing 2015 hit Creed, which took in more than $170 million at the worldwide box office. Ryan Coogler (Black Panther), who directed the first film, returns to the franchise as an executive producer on Creed II.
The new film is being directed by Steven Caple Jr., who helmed the acclaimed 2016 drama The Land.
“When I wrote and directed Creed, I wanted to tell a human story about a family from a new perspective, while also paying homage to the Rocky characters we’ve all grown up knowing and loving. I’ve known Steven was an amazing filmmaker since our days at USC film school together,...

Jon Bernthal is a very busy man. In 2017 alone he’s got seven projects listed and you’d be hard pressed not to catch at least one of them, with Pilgrimage just hitting the shelves, Baby Driver currently across cinema screens, and the rather exciting prospect of The Punisher series hitting Netflix in November.
In Pilgrimage Bernthal plays a mute, channelling his performance through an unspoken relationship with a young, naïve monk (Tom Holland) which gives the film its heart and drive, as they set off as part of a group to try and remove a sacred relic from harms’ way. The film is, for the most part, a tense game of cat and mouse with various threats closing in on them from all sides (including an especially nasty...

Marc Webb has been chatting about the demise of The Amazing Spider-Man series...
Director Marc Webb's biggest film prior to a life-changing decision from Sony was the indie-music-infused anti-romcom, and pure slice of cinematic excellence, (500) Days Of Summer.

Then Sony rang, and Webb became the director of The Amazing Spider-Man, the 2012 tentpole that rebooted ol' web-head and replaced Tobey Maguire with Andrew Garfield.
Webb stuck around for the film's brighter sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, before Sony decided to team up with Marvel Studios, reboot again (with Tom Holland debuting as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War), without Webb's involvement.
Those few years must've been utterly intense for Webb. To go from indie darling to blockbuster behemoth, and then be shown the door despite producing two films that had plenty going for them,...

“Southpaw.” “Hands of Stone.” “Grudge Match.” Hollywood churns out so many mediocre boxing movies these days you might be fooled into thinking that they’re profitable. Only superhero fare is so consistently familiar and obvious, so quick to dilute the unique spirit of their heroes into a generic swirl of big victories that leave you feel like you’re standing in place.
It’s easy to understand why filmmakers are consistently drawn to them — what better way to test and celebrate a character’s spirit than to watch them take a thousand punches to the face? And yet — as a confidant tells Vincenzo Edward Pazienza at the start of Ben Younger’s disposable “Bleed for This” — “Will can only take you so far.” If you’ve ever seen a boxing movie before, you don’t need me to tell you that the true story of “The Pazmanian Devil” is going to prove that guy wrong.

Thanks to his role in Martin Scorsese’s immortal 1980 classic Raging Bull, Robert De Niro will forever be linked to the sport of boxing in the minds of moviegoers. For the last couple decades, the Oscar-winning actor has been heavily riffing on his past roles for comedic effect in releases like Analyze This, Meet the Parents and Grudge Match, all of which saw De Niro poke fun at his own tough-guy persona and the various archetypes he’s known for. Now he’s back in the world of boxing again – though with a decidedly more dramatic goal in mind – as a key supporting character in writer/director Jonathan Jakubowicz’s Hands of Stone.
The film stars Edgar Ramírez (Joy) as Panamanian boxer Roberto Durán, who rose to prominence in the early 1970s, but rather than focus solely on his rise and fall (and rise again), Hands of Stone also takes...

For more than three decades after Raging Bull was released in 1980, Robert De Niro wisely stayed away from the boxing world on screen. After all, once you've appeared in one of the most spellbinding and spiritually troubling cinematic experiences of all time -- and won an Academy Award for your performance -- why tempt fate? For whatever reason, De Niro agreed to star in 2013's Grudge Match, which was more of an attempt at comedy than anything else, and now he has taken a supporting role in Hands of Stone, a biographical drama about real-life Panamanian boxer Roberto Duran, essayed by Edgar Ramirez. De Niro portrays retired trainer Ray Arcel, who worked with many notable fighters before being forced into retirement by the New...

In 1980, Robert De Niro delivered an Oscar-winning performance as Jake La Motta in Raging Bull, the Martin Scorsese masterpiece that set a high water mark for both biographical narratives and boxing films. For many years, the compound image of De Niro and a boxing ring was indisputably evocative of cinematic excellence. And then, in 2013, he starred alongside Sylvester Stallone in Grudge Match, and that compound image suddenly had an unpleasant amount of bodily fluids splattered across it.
Now, he’s trying to clean up some of that mess. In Hands Of Stone, the 72-year-old veteran actor plays Ray Arcel, the master trainer who stood in the corner of 18 world champions. One of those was Roberto Durán, the Panamanian fighter who came in fifth in The Ring’s countdown of the sport’s greatest talents of the past eight decades. I’m seeing a strange pattern here. Both Robert De Niro And Sylvester Stallone took up the boxing gloves again for Grudge Match, then Sly took on the trainer role in Creed. Now the one time Jake La Motta is following suit with Hands of Stone, playing the real life boxing trainer Ray Arcel as he trains Panamanian fighter Roberto Duran (Edgar Ramirez), telling the story of Duran’s 1980 title bout with Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher Raymond) Written and directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz (Secuestro Express), Hands of Stone promises to be everything a good boxing movie should be: tense, exciting, nail biting, and above all else, a compelling under dog story. On top of that, De Niro appears to be on top form, and after the dire Dirty Grandpa, we need to believe in him again. Released: 26th August (U.S.)/ ? (Irl/U.K.)...

The long-accepted rule in the film industry is that established names bring in the box office gold. Hollywood has always relied on big-name actors to guarantee them big box office. But is the trend changing now? Are fans now becoming less interested in A-list actors than in the characters they play?
A-List Hollywood stars get the big money because they bring in big profits for Hollywood studios. Or at least, they have up until now. Is the era of the A-Lister starting to fade? It’s possible, because in recent years, it seems that film fans have more interest in the role and less in the person playing the role. Look at what’s been happening to many A-lister in recent years.
Let’s take Johnny Depp, for instance. He used to play a variety of roles and could draw in crowds with his name alone. More recently, however, his...

I'll watch just about anything that combines the talents of Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, and Zach Galifianakis, so the new sci-fi movie The Something already has me intrigued.

THR says he'll make his directorial debut with this film about a crew of male astronauts who discover another ship out in space. “[It's] about four guys in space who have been there for five years and hate each other and it kind of becomes Alien.” He says he wants to cast “a couple of the really funny actors I know and then a couple other left-field actors. And they basically end up boarding...

Comedic trio Seth Rogen, Bill Hader and Zach Galifianakis have enlisted for astronaut flick The Something, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Centering on a band of wayward explorers lost in space, the pitch comes by way of Rodney Rothman (22 Jump Street, Grudge Match), who is poised to make his directorial debut with the space-set comedy. Rogen will have a hand in producing The Something under his Point Grey Pictures banner, while Universal will handle distribution now that the project has been greenlit.
Cast astray in the inky blackness of space, Rothman’s feature will find Rogen, Hader and Galifianakis’ astronauts marooned among the stars for years, until they happen across another ship. But Event Horizon this is not, and given that the writer-director has cast such an impressive trio, it’s little wonder why Universal acted quickly to issue the go-ahead. It marks something of a reunion for Rogen and Hader,...
