As Midge leaves Carnegie Hall after Lenny Bruce's performance a car passes with people yelling that JFK won the election, which took place on Nov 8, 1960. But Bruce's concert was not until February 4, 1961.
This episode takes place during late October to early November, when average high temperatures in New York City range from low 60s to high 50s (Fahrenheit). In this episode, it is snowing every day, culminating in a blizzard around Election Day during the last scene. Accumulating snow in New York City is rare that early in the season and a blizzard has never occurred in New York in mid Autumn.
Around the fifteen minute mark, Midge gives Joel a bagel while the two sit on a bench outside Moishe Maisel's hospital room. The bagel is similar to what New York bagels are today and nothing like what they were then. In 1960, the typical union New York Bagel would have been approximately half that size.
In Beth Israel Hospital, Midge hands Joel a bagel produced through steam injection (flat bottom, voids in side crust where attached to adjoining bagels). This process wasn't introduced until the mid 1970's.
