We have recently reported that Ben Shattuck’s short story titled “The History of Sound” would be adapted in the form of a feature film. In case you forgot, the story tells us of a gay romance between two men who fall in love during World War I. The movie, as we have reported, is directed by South African filmmaker Oliver Hermanus, who is known for his LGBTQ+-themed films, and his filmography includes movies such as Shirley Adams (2009), Beauty (Skoonheid) (2011), The Endless River (2015), Moffie (2019), and Living (2022). And while we reported about filming being done, it seems that the movie won’t be released this year, as everyone expected.
We have promised you to report further on this story and we are fulfilling our promise here, as we are going to bring you the latest updates on the movie’s release, coming straight from Hermanus himself, who told us about...

Exclusive: On the heels of her acclaimed directorial debut Passing, Rebecca Hall has found her next filmmaking vehicle in Four Days Like Sunday, a mother-daughter drama inspired by her own history, which she’s written to direct and will star in for See-Saw Films.
Set in the mid 1990s, the film follows 12-year-old Jane as she begins to rebel against her role as proxy-carer for her mother Sylvia (Hall), a recently divorced and ever so slightly fading Broadway diva. During a long weekend break between concert dates, Sylvia hosts Benton, Chris and Rahim, three male dancers from her current tour, at her anachronistically grand country house. She is also expecting the arrival of Dale, her handsome younger boyfriend. As Jane does her best to protect her mother from everything that threatens to disturb her delicate equilibrium, she moves quietly from childhood into something else-wiser, freer, and more alone.

Formerly best known as The Crown’s Prince Charles, the British actor is starring as a cocky US tennis pro in Guadagnino’s new hit film. But, he says, he was happiest living off grid in a van for his next film, La Chimera
What makes a movie star? Josh O’Connor, the 33-year-old British actor best known until, well, last week as the thin-skinned, tight-lipped Prince Charles in seasons three and four of The Crown, has been mulling over this question of late. Earlier this year he completed a drama set in the first world war called The History of Sound, with Paul Mescal. “Paul’s a friend, and to watch him work was amazing,” says O’Connor. “I really can’t underplay how brilliant he is. Paul has that movie-star quality, whatever that is. I wish I could articulate it, but he’s just graceful about it all.”
Zendaya is another one.

Josh O’Connor knows how heavy the crown lies in modern celebrity culture.
“The Crown” Golden Globe winner, who portrayed Prince Charles on the hit Netflix series, told GQ that the fame following the role was shocking.
“It was a fucked-up time,” O’Connor said. “I found it so impactful, people stopping me. You want to be in stuff that’s successful and seen, but I think sometimes we underestimate how powerful even a slight loss of anonymity can be.”
O’Connor continued, “What I was doing in my career before ‘The Crown’ — I just wanted to carry on doing that.”
The actor is starring in Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers,” which originally was set to debut at the Venice Film Festival before the SAG-AFTRA strike. The film is now being released April 26, 2024. O’Connor additionally recently led “La Chimera” which premiered at Cannes. O’Connor is next set to...

Paul Mescal is about to change Andrew Scott’s life.
The Oscar nominee and “Fleabag” alum co-star in Andrew Haigh’s supernatural drama “All of Us Strangers,” with Mescal portraying a mysterious figure who peels back the curtain of linear time.
Per the official synopsis from Searchlight Pictures: “One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, screenwriter Adam (Scott) has a chance encounter with his mysterious neighbor Harry (Mescal) that punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As Adam and Harry get closer, Adam is pulled back to his childhood home where it appears his long-dead parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) are both living and look the same age as the day they died 30 years before.”
“All of Us Strangers” is produced by Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, and Sarah Harvey and was previously known as “Strangers.”
Haigh previously directed the contemporary gay classic “Weekend,” plus coming-of-ager “Lean on Pete,...

Picking up an Oscar nomination (or better yet a win) can often lead to subsequent nominations in the following years. After Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor for “The Theory of Everything” in 2015, he picked up a second nomination the year later for “The Danish Girl.” And Willem Dafoe earned consecutive nominations in 2018 and 2019 for his work on”The Florida Project” and “At Eternity’s Gate.”
The Oscars afterglow is a real thing. So which of this year’s nominated stars could theoretically feel the benefit of this trend? We’ve combed through each of the 20 nominees’ next projects to see who could follow up their bid this year with a potential nomination next year. After all, it’s never too late to start thinking about the next Academy Awards, right?

Zendaya, “The Crown” star Josh O’Connor and “West Side Story” actor Mike Faist have been tapped to star in a new film from Luca Guadagnino called “Challengers” at MGM, according to a report first in Puck.

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
As Hollywood grapples with the accidental shooting death of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, I had the chance to talk with “Squid Game” writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk about the safety precautions taken on the set of his intensely violent series. “We of course have a prop master, but also in Korea, we’re not really a gun-owning country, so only the police can have and own a gun,” he said. “Because of that, bullets are not really easily as distributed as they are maybe here, so there’s a very low, low possibility of any safety issues happening on set.”
In fact, he said, “in my life, I have never seen a real bullet. I have only seen them in the movies.”
Park Hae-soo said, “I felt so sad about [the ‘Rust’] tragedy. I just want to relay my condolences.”
