Haunted Ulster Live is part homage to, and part parody of the BBC’s infamous Ghostwatch. For those unfamiliar with it, it was a 1992 Halloween special hosted by Michael Parkinson and presented as a live broadcast from a haunted house. Unfortunately, many viewers didn’t know it wasn’t the real thing and the BBC ended up fielding over 1,000,000 from concerned viewers. An early entry in the mockumentary/found footage genre it’s also the precursor of films like Kild TV, Deadstream, and The Cleansing Hour.
It’s Halloween night in 1998, TV veteran Gerry Burns and children’s TV presenter Michelle Kelly along with radio DJ Declan broadcasting live from the attic of an allegedly haunted house. They’re joined by the home’s owner Sarah, her daughter Rose,...

Let's see if we get any closer in this episode, titled "The Sip-n-See Stand Off."...

It’s been over a decade since director Terry George had a big hit with the three-time Oscar nominated “Hotel Rwanda,” and his career ever since has been in a steady downward tumble, culminating in his last feature film, 2011’s “Whole Lotta Sole” starring Brendan Fraser which almost nobody saw. So, the filmmaker has returned to war torn territory with “The Promise,” bringing with him some very big talent and subject matter – the Armenian Genocide – and that hasn’t been tackled very often at the movies.

Matt and Dustin had the chance to check out Ubisoft's For Honor closed alpha this past weekend, getting some solid hands-on time with the highly anticipated action game and bringing their thoughts to you. Come inside to see what they had to say after lengthy game time.
We got to play the For Honor alpha build over the weekend and these are our impressions from several hours within the game. The Alpha includes 3 maps and 3 modes. The modes include a 1-on-1 duel, 2-on-2 brawl, and a 4-v-4 battle. The 4-v-4 variation includes additional smaller warriors, and objective points you must hold to win the battle.
Dustin - For Honor is an addicting, thrilling, experience that was a refreshing taste of video gaming. The game honestly felt like a more in-depth Dynasty Warriors to me. You have the initial sprint to battle with comrades, but then you break away into something glorious.

One of the hottest acquisition titles to world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, “The Promise” boasts a powerful historical backdrop, a top-notch cast headed by Oscar Isaac and Christian Bale, and the return of filmmaker Terry George. The director earned notable acclaim for the Oscar-nominated “Hotel Rwanda” back in 2004, and his first feature since 2011’s “Whole Lotta Sole” once again explores the tragedy and sacrifices made in times of war and genocide. Deadline has exclusively premiered the debut trailer, and it’s a sweeping look at one of history’s darkest moments.

The Toronto International Film Festival kicks off this week, and with it, the rest of a very busy fall festival season. In preparation for the Canadian festival, we’ll be rolling out a series of previews to point you in the direction of all the movies you have to see (or at least, all the movies you have to start anticipating right now). Next up, a batch of new features we’ve yet to see…and can’t wait to check out in the coming days.
“The Promise”
Oscar-winning director Terry George has been Mia from the big screen since 2011’s “Stand Off” (a little-seen Brendan Fraser vehicle that’s hardly worth mentioning) and the awards conversation since 2004’s “Hotel Rwanda” (though his subsequent film, the 2007 Mark Ruffalo-starring “Reservation Road” got a little love), but he seems poised to be back in a big way, thanks to a sweeping...

Netflix giveth, and Netflix taketh away.
"Blade Runner: The Theatrical Cut" was just added to Netflix streaming, but now it's facing a harsh expiration date of May 16. (We'll be up on the roof, holding a dove and crying.)
And dude! So bogus: Unless you have a time machine, you only have until May 1st to stream "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" (1989).
Also leaving in May 2016: "Election," "Clerks," and "Black Hawk Dawn" as well as classic Marilyn Monroe movie "Bus Stop."
Here are all the movies and TV series leaving Netflix in May 2016. As always, all titles and dates are subject to change.
Leaving May 1
"The Animatrix" (2003)
"Anna Karenina" (1948)

Hello ComicBookMovie community! I hope you've all been well and enjoying a great summer filled with many great films. So with Bryan Singer's next installment into the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse, still many months away - I thought why not share with you all what I believe to be the best action scenes from each film in the franchise. So enough with the introduction, let's run down this list. The Train Station Stand off - X-Men (2000) If I recall correctly this scene gave us our first actual look at the power of Magneto when he not only tears apart the train, but swiftly removes any opposition easliy including Wolverine. The best part of this scene though is when Magneto and Professor Xavier have their stand off. It shows us the difference between these two characters. How Magneto would go to lengths that Xavier would not when Magneto fires the...

After years of erudite movie mob bosses and Camus-quoting killers, Woody Harrelson has singlehandedly revived the good, old-fashioned thug
In the very first scene in the harrowing new film Out of the Furnace, Woody Harrelson swings opens the car door, tumbles out of the driver's seat and pukes his guts out. He then forces his gabby consort to swallow whole what appears to be a revolting hot dog, beats senseless a well-meaning but overmatched Sir Galahad who unwisely comes to her rescue, and spends the rest of the movie doing violent, horrible things, many of which result in other people's deaths. Not once does he say anything witty or incisive or clever, much less pithy. Not once does he say anything that could be construed as ironic. Not once does he engage his Jurassic associates in lighthearted banter. No, in Out of the Furnace, Harrelson plays a good, old-fashioned thug.

Comedy/drama film “Stand Off” made its way to theaters last month and if you didn’t get the chance to check it out on the big screen, you’ve got the chance to get it on the small screen when “Stand Off” comes to DVD and Blu-ray March 26. *full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Ketchup Entertainment. Director: Terry George. Writers: Thomas Gallagher and Terry George. Cast: Brendan Fraser, Colm Meaney, Martin McCann, Yaya Alafia and David O'Hara. Stand Off is an Ireland shot comedy from Oscar Award winner Terry George (Hotel Rwanda). From the promotional material, the film looks like a heist thriller. However, Stand Off is a light-hearted film that deals with family issues. The United Kingdom actors provide some realistic Irish brogue and the film has some solid dramatic moments, but the film is missing a much needed edge. The film is set in the director's hometown, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Here, a desperate man, Jimbo (Martin McCann), owes a local gangster over 5K Ir£. He only has a short window to make the money back. Or the hood, Mad Dog Flynn (David O'Hara), will take Jimbo's child. Understandably, Jimbo is motivated...

In an interview with Crave Online while promoting Stand Off, Brendan Fraser discusses Universal Pictures' plans for a reboot of The Mummy franchise, in which he stars as Rick O'Connell. He certainly doesn't sound bitter about not being in a fourth installment of the financially successful series (2008's Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor grossed over $400M worldwide, so it would make sense that more movies would be made), and he's supportive of the film and will see it opening day even if it isn't necessary. "I wasn't approached for it. I would certainly entertain the idea, and I know for sure that I will be there on opening day to get the good seat. Unless they call me for some in-joke, nudge-nudge, wink-wink reason to walk an actor through a cameo in the background a la Hitchcock or something. I don’t even know if it's necessary, but how...

Brendan Fraser is not quite what you would expect. Just trust us: Whatever it is you're expecting from the star of "Dudley Do-Right" and "Blast From the Past," he's decidedly not it. For a guy who has starred in so many family friendly films, Fraser is pleasantly quirky and candid. He's also made a few unexpected moves in his career: Alongside a starring voice role in another one of those mainstream family movies ("Escape From Planet Earth"), Fraser has another decidedly darker, quirkier film coming out this month, "Stand Off."
As Fraser described it to us, "It's a family story about what happens when people put the guns down and actually talk to each other. There's a way forward, peacefully. Open a dialogue, try that. Logical discourse, how bout that. See what happens." Alternately: It's about an Irish fish market robbery gone horribly wrong, with a few familial mishaps along...

If there’s a single moment that can let us 90% know Brendan Fraser, it’s one where he’s in the middle of a poignant discourse on professionally becoming another person in order to help share a story with the world when the cartoon sproing-sproing ringtone of his phone cuts through. The fact that it’s his children needing to be picked up from school on the other end probably brings us close to the last ten percent. “Hey, I got kids, and don’t tell anyone, but I still feel like one,” Fraser tells me, pinning the tail on a question about the sideways decisions of his career, the latest of which to see theaters is Stand Off . In the film from Terry George, Fraser plays Joe Maguire, a man who escapes a bad home situation by going to Belfast and running an antique store that eventually becomes the epicenter of the action promised in the...

I like Brendan Fraser, he’s always been one of those guys I enjoy watching in movies, even when the film is really bad or boring. Having said that, I have no idea what he’s doing here in the UK comedy/crime movie “Stand Off”, which was apparently finished back in 2011 (under the title “Whole Lotta Sole”), but is only now getting a Stateside release date, though it’s looking like a limited release followed by a DVD/VOD roll-out. Don’t let the heavily photoshopped poster above fool you, though, because according to the trailer below Fraser is not playing anything remotely close to the gun-toting badass that the poster promises. Unless, of course, that’s the twist, in which case the poster just gave it away. So what’s this thing ol Fraser’s got himself stuck in the middle of? Let’s see, shall we: In...

Robert Beaumont, President of Lightning Entertainment (“Lightning”), announced today that the Santa Monica-based sales, production and distribution company has acquired all international rights to Bert Marcus Productions’ acclaimed documentary feature film How To Make Money Selling Drugs.
The film premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival to an enthusiastic audience and critical acclaim and was instantly acquired by Tribeca Films for the U.S. rights. Set for both theatrical release and on VOD in more than 40 million homes in 2013, the provocative documentary presents a shockingly candid examination of how a street dealer can rise to cartel lord with relative ease. By blending authentic reportage with pop culture references, the documentary further reveals how public policy and government drug enforcement have struggled to creatively adapt to and effectively disincentive Americans from dealing drugs. Man, I’m kinda worried for Brendan Fraser’s current career trajectory. On second thought, skipping out on the sure-thing “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”, the sequel to his “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, was probably not the best decision ol Brendan could have made. What does he have to show for it? “Furry Vengeance”, something called “Whole Lotta Sole”, and about a half dozen films coming in the next few years that doesn’t look very promising in terms of big box office draw. If he’s not careful, the guy who saved us from evil undead mummies not once, not twice, but three times might end up in direct-to-dvd land starring in generic action movies. Case in point: Fraser has now attached himself to something called “Split Decision”, a film that he will star and produce. The plot kicks off when two children (Holly Deveaux and...

Though he hasn’t had the best of luck with some recent releases (indie comedy Whole Lotta Sole remains a festival release and the less said about Furry Vengeance the better), Brendan Fraser has certainly been busy. He’s adding to his list of upcoming projects by starring in Split Decision.Damian Lee has written and will direct the movie, which finds Fraser play a father to two kids (Holly Deveaux and Christian Martin) who head out on a wildness trip with a family pal (Daniel Kash). But their happy camping turns nasty when they witness criminal types Dominic Purcell and Ethan Suplee murdering someone and the villains decide that the young witnesses must be bumped off before they can alert the authorities. Naturally, Fraser has to rescue his sprogs before they’re killed in what sounds like a throwback to all those 80s kids movies where plucky youngsters were imperilled by gangster types.

Writer-director Terry George has garnered critical acclaim and Oscar nods for his part in the creation of such harrowing biopics as In the Name of the Father and Hotel Rwanda. But for his latest effort, Whole Lotta Sole, the Northern Ireland-born filmmaker is treading familiar ground but offering a drastic while comical departure from his these heralded works. Whole Lotta Sole is an action-comedy set in Belfast, Northern Ireland, that involves culture clash, a desperate dad, and a wild web of gangsters and good guys. Brendan Fraser stars as an American shopkeeper who, by happenstance, entangles into an unlikely heist that involves robbing a fish market owned by the merciless mobster Mad Dog Flynn, played by The Departed's David O'Hara. $sb("ci030_8e5d4bb4687dd921003c37b5ee23875f",{"sbFeed":{"partnerId":39,"type":"video","contentId":495889," ...

After winning an Oscar for his short The Shore this year, Hotel Rwanda director Terry George is also finally returning to feature film territory after 2007′s Reservation Road. Premiering at Tribeca last month, Whole Lotta Sole sees the helmer switching to a more fun tone, with the story revolving around Brendan Fraser and a robbery in a Irish town. We were mixed on the film (full review here), complaining about his over-abundant subplots, but enjoying the overall light nature. The first trailer has arrived today and you can check it out below for the film also starring Colm Meaney, David O’Hara, Yaya DaCosta and Martin McCann.

Whole Lotta Sole is a different kettle of fish* to director 's Terry George's most recent output. Considering he made Hotel Rwanda, there was plenty of scope for adding some levity to his range, and he's definitely done that will this heist movie set in Ireland. The film's new trailer has landed and shows Brendan Fraser caught in the middle of some Irish capers. The man with the Thompson machine-gun is young father Jimbo Reagan (Martin McCann), driven to desperate measures by his debt to local gangster 'Mad Dog' Flynn (David O’Hara). The only problem is that his choice of target - the market than lends Whole Lotta Sole its fishy pun title - is owned by Flynn, so Jimbo's ill-gotten gains include records of the mobster's ill-gotten gains. Hardly likely to ingratiate him with the crim.Stumbling unwittingly into this mayhem is Brendan Fraser's...

Brendan Fraser Stars In Oddball Irish Stick-Up Flick.
It’s hard to get a bead on Brendan Fraser. In a way, it always has been. At the outset of his career, he certainly seemed to be part of the latter-day Tiger Beat crowd, lumped into the Sean Astin strata of notoriety.
The only flick of his that I really remember taking a liking to was Blast from the Past, with Fraser, Alicia Silverstone, and Christopher Walken. In that flick, Brendan plays a guy in his late teens/early twenties, who was raised in a bomb shelter by his doomsday prepper dad (Walken). The role fit Fraser more or less like a glove, allowing him to showcase whatever that wholesome thing is that people love so much.
Almost from the very beginning of his career, Fraser has never been out of work for long. Roles in larger films have afforded him...

Cannes is, ultimately, both an exhibition of wonderful films and a celebration of the very medium, but there’s a very good amount of business taking place after the screenings finish — and, many times, for films that don’t even play in competition. So, as things kick off over in France, Variety reports that The Weinstein Company have procured international rights to The Sapphires, a music biopic — starring, most notably, Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids) — that will play as part of the festival’s Midnight Screenings.
The film tells of four Aboriginal girls (Jessica Mauboy, Deborah Mailman, Shari Sebbens, and Miranda Tapsell) that are snatched up by a rowdy Irish producer (O’Dowd), who takes them to Vietnam to entertain American soldiers during the war. Wayne Blair directed the film, while Tony Briggs and Keith Thompson have written the screenplay.

After intense dramas like Hotel Rwanda and In the Name of the Father, it’s a welcome surprise to see Irish director Terry George helming the lighthearted and thoroughly entertaining new comedy Whole Lotta Sole. George, who won an Oscar this year for his comic short film The Shore, has made his career directing big budget drama about ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges, and in that sense Whole Lotta Sole follows directly from his own tradition as a filmmaker. Opening with bang in South Boston, we meet Joe Maguire (Brendan Fraser) as he’s running out on his psychotically angry wife, who we later discover is the daughter of an Irish Mafia capo with a strong resemblance to Whitey Bulger. To escape her – and more importantly, to escape retaliation from her angry dad – Maguire decides to hole up in his cousin’s antique shop in Belfast, lying low until the heat wears off.

New York – In both his own films and his collaborations with Jim Sheridan, screenwriter-turned-director Terry George has invariably been drawn to serious subject matter, covering the Troubles in Northern Ireland (In the Name of the Father, The Boxer), the corrosive aftermath of family tragedy (Reservation Road), and true stories of an Ira hunger striker (Some Mother’s Son) or heroism in the midst of genocide (Hotel Rwanda). He takes an abrupt turn toward the light in Whole Lotta Sole. The calculatedly charming crime comedy could use a tad more vitality in its central character, played by Brendan Fraser,

The title of "Whole Lotta Sole" is the kind of gratingly obnoxious flourish that makes you hate the movie immediately. First of all it sits in your mouth like a blob of half-chewed gummy bears; secondly, it sounds like a direct-to-video independent movie produced in the mid-'90s that the Weinsteins picked up on a whim; and thirdly its implied double meaning – it's the name of a fish market in the film but its phonetic weight means something too ("whole lot of soul") – is meant to deepen the movie but instead leaves you even more irritated. The movie is pretty much exactly like that – it tries to sugarcoat the British gangster movie (and we're using the "British" term pretty broadly; it's set in Belfast) and leaves you totally annoyed and unsatisfied.
"Whole Lotta Sole" is the kind of movie that revels in hanging out with eccentric ("quirky") characters in this Irish town.

There’s a whole lotta plot in the latest feature film from this year’s Oscar-winner Terry George. The Hotel Rwanda director is tackling lighter material with Whole Lotta Sole, an Irish mob hostage movie starring the ever-amiable Brendan Fraser. For such a simple conceit, subplots upon subplots abound to make this relatively well-paced and enjoyable lark strain in its third act.
Fraser plays Maguire, a U.S. resident looking to restart his life in Belfast, Ireland after his physically-abusive wife, who has Irish mob ties in Boston, might have set a hit out for him. While that plot seems like it could be a film all unto its own, it is covered within the first minute of the film. Back to Belfast, there’s a new father named Jimbo (The Pacific‘s Martin McCann), who owes crime boss Mad Dog Flynn (David O’Hara, not straying far from his...
