You might think that you don’t know a lot of Irish horror movies but you either didn’t realise certain films were made in Ireland or by Irish filmmakers or you’re not watching the right films! Whether it be the comedy from 2005 Boy Eats Girl or folky Hammer movie Wake Wood or the terrifying Corin Hardy movie The Hallow or the ridiculously fun Grabbers. There’s plenty for horror fans to enjoy and the pun in the title will tell you that Let The Wrong One In is the latest horror comedy coming from Ireland.
It tells the story of Matt, a teenager who suddenly discovers his older brother, Deco, has become a vampire. He then has to decide whether to help his brother or the very, very, opposite and kill him.

Something nasty is lurking in the forest in what might be the most frightening film of the year, a nerve-jangling mix of The Witch and Hereditary, from a formidable first time director.
Sarah moves her precocious son Chris to a secluded new home in a rural town, trying to ease his apprehensions as they hope for a fresh start after a difficult past. But after a startling encounter with a mysterious new neighbour, Sarah’s nerves are set on edge. Chris disappears in the night into the forest behind their house, and Sarah discovers an ominous, gaping sinkhole while searching for him. Though he returns, some disturbing behavioural changes emerge, and Sarah begins to worry that the boy who came back is not her son.

If I’m being perfectly honest, after watching the first extended trailer for The Prodigy, I was ready to write it off as yet another possessed kid movie. But thankfully, writer Jeff Buhler and director Nicholas McCarthy weren’t ready to mine familiar territory with this film, and instead of creating a movie focused on an evil kid that needs to be saved from demonic forces, The Prodigy goes the reincarnation route, and that alone made the film immensely enjoyable (the greatest feeling for me when I am watching movies in this day and age is to be surprised). Beyond that, The Prodigy is a surprisingly dark and disturbing story that taps into not only every parent's worst fears, but also serves as a reminder to all of us that evil can lurk anywhere, and come from the most unexpected of places.

To celebrate the release of A Dark Song – available on Digital Download 31st July and DVD 7th August – we are giving away a copy on DVD courtesy of Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment.
Hellraiser meets The Descent in this macabre, mind-bending horror, with Sightseers star Steve Oram as an occult practitioner dabbling in the far reaches of evil, in a dazzling debut from director Liam Gavin. With shades of cult horrors Kill List and Wake Wood, A Dark Song is nevertheless fiercely original and innovative, helmed with an assurance that is all the more astonishing given it is Gavin’s first film. After a slot at the London Film Festival, and winning Gavin the New Visions award at the 2016 Sitges Festival, A Dark Song is brooding, brutal and brilliant, and now ready to scare audiences at home!

Sacrifice is a strange film. Director Peter A. Dowling treats his audience as if they’d already read author Sharon Bolton’s source novelization, and know exactly what’s going to happen. As soon as Sacrifice rockets straight through a rapid-fire credits sequence filled with foreshadowing images, we know the Exact movie we’re getting. Nothing is hidden and tension is sparse.
It’s almost as if Dowling has his thumb on the fast-forward button, speeding his film towards an inevitable ending that’s projected more times than we can count. No mystery, no suspense, and certainly no thrills – just wooden, cult generalizations and wasted potential.
Radha Mitchell stars as Dr. Tora Hamilton, a wife who cannot give birth due to recent health complications. Distraught and discouraged, Tora travels to her husband Duncan’s (Rupert Graves) homeland – the Shetland Islands – where they apply to adopt a local child. Since there...

It feels like almost every new movie is coming out on April 5th—and yes, that is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but still, we do have over 20 horror and sci-fi titles arriving on Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday and there’s no denying that’s a bunch.
Of course the big title this week is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but there are also several great indie horror films being released this week, including Ava’s Possessions, The Hallow, Cherry Tree, #Horror, and Creep, which is finally makes its way to DVD as well. Arrow Video has several special edition releases coming out on Tuesday, including The Black Cat, Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key and the Death Walks Twice box set.
Other notable releases for April 5th include Anguish, Deadly Weekend, The Entity, The Tell-Tale Heart and Journey to the Seventh Planet.

Cherry Tree feels very much like a jumble of ideas, as if someone sat down and thought about what they wanted to see in a horror film or what would make “interesting” visuals and then tried to string them together with the flimsiest of plots. And the visuals are definitely...

A new trailer has arrived for Harbinger Down ahead of the film's release tomorrow. Also in this round-up: a new teaser trailer for Cherry Tree, The Barn Indiegogo campaign, and DVD release details for horror-thriller Run, Hide, Die.
Harbinger Down: "A group of grad students have booked passage on the fishing trawler Harbinger to study the effects of global warming on a pod of Orcas in the Bering Sea. When the ship’s crew dredges up a recently thawed piece of old Soviet space wreckage, things get downright deadly. It seems that the Russians experimented with tardigrades, tiny resilient animals able to withstand the extremes of space radiation. The creatures survived, but not without a mutation. Now the crew is exposed to aggressively mutating organisms. And after being locked in ice for three decades, the creatures aren’t about to give up the warmth of human companionship.

Also, the film looks influenced by ancient Pagan myths as seen in the very root-like settings and flowing costumes. The Celts live again in film,...

The pairing of director David Keating and writer Brendan McCarthy first made a splash a few years back with the release of the Hammer horror Wake Wood and the pair are at it again, this time with the witchy horror Cherry Tree.
The movie stars Naomi Battrick as Faith, a young woman who finds out her father is dying. Desperate to save him, she strikes a deal with the leader of a coven who offers to save Faith's dad in exchange for a baby. Faith agrees and suddenly finds herself pregnant and carrying a child that is growing faster than normal.

Hammer has been making a damn respectable come back in recent years. The Quiet Ones Let Me In Wake Wood and the first Woman in Black flick were all impressive pieces that managed to showcase some of Hammers trademark atmospheric scenes. And theres absolutely no reason to believe the company will not keep the streak alive with The Woman in Black Angel of Death.

The recent resurrection of the historical Hammer Films studio was, of course, cause for much celebration among horror fans around the world. The British production company built a name for itself in horror in the 1960s and it's been great to have them back. (You don't have to bother with The Resident, but Hammer productions Wake Wood, Let Me In, and The Woman in Black are all worthwhile horror films.) The company's latest offering is, at best, a mixed bag. The Quiet Ones aims to combine an effectively creepy story set in 1974 with a bunch of "found footage" footage that serves no real purpose.
The plot is pure, simple Hammer stuff: a dedicated but plainly obsessed university professor (the great Jared Harris) and his two graduate students welcome the arrival of a new cameraman (Sam Claflin) who will document their work. And as poor Brian McNeil quickly discovers, the trio's...

In 2008, classic horror production company Hammer Films began something of a rebirth, releasing their first movie since their closure in the 1980's. With the likes of Wake Wood, Let Me In, and The Woman in Black, they have gone from strength to strength, proving there is life in the old dog yet. Their latest release is The Quiet Ones, marketed, like so many horror movies it seems lately, as being based on real life events. Evoking the era and style, the 1970's, of Hammer in its prime, Jared Harris plays a college professor, James Coupland, hellbent on proving the supernatural is only manisfestation is of our negative energy. He experiments on the troubled Jane Harper (Olivia Cooke), hoping to create his own poltergeist, which he will then banish, thus 'curing' her. With the set up out of the way in the opening scenes, the movie wastes no time in whisking Coupland and his team,...

It has been dismissed over the years as cheesy, cheap and laughable but, as has been the case on many occasions, Hammer Films have had the last laugh. They boast a back-catalogue that is to horror movies what The Rolling Stones’ discography is to rock music. Fifty-nine years after the release of their first horror movie proper (The Quatermass Xperiment), Hammer’s films have survived scrutiny and re-evaluation and have now attained National Treasure status. Moreover, in terms of sheer importance, the Hammer films were some of the most influential of the past half-century. The ripple-effect of their imitators cashing in on their success would beget the careers of some of the biggest names in Hollywood today.
And yet since 1984 Hammer has been a dormant entity, existing only in the memory: a pile of ashes, a cape and a signet ring waiting to be reanimated by the crimson, jugular discharge of some poor,...

Today is of course St. Patrick’s Day, which essentially means that us horror fans are allowed the freedom to do two things, without incurring the wrath of judgment that doing those two things typically incurs; not only do we get to drink all day, but it’s sort of an unwritten rule that we must plop our asses on our couches and watch as many of the films in the Leprechaun franchise as we can possibly endure. A great holiday this one is, to say the least.
That said, if you’ve already seen all the Leprechaun movies, and don’t have much interest in watching them again, then have no fear, because we’ve got you covered. We came up with a list of films to accompany you on today’s couch-riding, beer-drinking escapades, all of which are worthy alternatives to the Leprechaun films.

In Fear is one of those the-less-you-know-the-better films. In the spirit of preserving its deeper mysteries, let's just say that it's a film about a boy and a girl driving around the Irish countryside and bad things happen in it. Very bad things. Oh, and it's got a nifty new poster we're delighted to be sharing. What else can be said without spoiling the ride? Well, despite its Irish setting, this taps into that Brit horror tradition of things going seriously pear-shaped out in the boondocks. Recent chillers like Eden Lake and Wake Wood and, of course, classics such as The Wicker Man and Straw Dogs have all taken a similar fish-out-water approach to scaring the wits out of their protagonists. That's where this one starts before it heads off in a very different direction. The film's two leads, Agents Of Shield's Iain De Caestecker and Beautiful Creatures' Alice Englert,...
