Curiosity Submerges for Discovery and Escalates Disorientation
Now, in order to discuss this episode, suppose that we disambiguate its title term "Pole" to study the senses of the word: Pole could mean 1. a rod, 2. a citizen of Poland, 3. a mutually exclusive opinion, 4. a perch, 5. a point of Earth's axis' intersection, 6. a punt, 7. a terminal, 8. a support, 9. a sports' implement, 10. a molten metals' deoxidizer, or 11. a magnet end. But here, "Pole" represents 12. a tadpole.
First, in the Country, Bill the Country Neighbor shows Curious George his camera and jar containing a butterfly cocoon, while they hike across a log bridge across the lagoon of the lake.
Well, what do you suppose will happen when Bill tells Curious George to walk safely, lest he lose his footing, to fall into the lagoon? Yes, that is correct, and while he's under the water, Curious George discovers a school of tadpoles, which Bill photographs and suggests slipping the six tadpoles into a jar of water to study the metamorphoses of Developmental Biology, a lesson which Curious George has yet to learn.
So, when Bill suggests that Curious George keep an eye upon his six tadpoles, while Bill looks after his cocoon and Bunnies, Curious George guards the tadpole aquarium, by carrying it everywhere he goes.
But when Bill doesn't look, Curious George carries the tadpoles to the lagoon to allow them to swim freely, and then Curious George can no longer locate them, before the Man with the Yellow Hat tells him that it's time to return to the City.
Now, usually, the Man with the Yellow Hat tells Curious George that he cannot wait to return to the Country as soon as and as often as possible, but this episode contrives the standard time line, perhaps in order to give those tadpoles and cocoon enough time to develop.
A few weeks pass before the Man with the Yellow Hat escorts Curious George back to the country, and as he returns to the lake to search for those tadpoles, his elderly Country Neighbor offers him a ride in his rowboat and the use of his goggles to search beneath the waters.
Well, what Curious George discovers is a school of different creatures, these now green instead of brown, and growing legs. Curious George releases these because he does not know what they are, and so he does not inform Bill that he no longer has Bill's tadpoles, but once again, the Man with the Yellow Hat escorts back to the City for several weeks, during which time Curious George visits the Museum of Science to observe its illustrations of amphibian metamorphosis of Developmental Biology and realizes that the tadpoles have grown legs.
So, when the time is right, Curious George and Bill meet once again at the Lagoon, where Bill shows Curious George that his cocoon has yielded a beautiful butterfly, while frogs jump from the waters before them, indicating that "Curious George Discovers the Poles."
Next, in the City, a Carpet Cleaner arrives at Building 7 in order to do his job in the apartments, and so the Man with the Yellow Hat asks Curious George to wait in the lobby with an apple, while the Man with the Yellow Hat runs errands, thus leaving Hundley the Doorman's Dachshund a lot of extra work in keeping an eye on "that sloppy monkey," who drips apple juice onto the carpets.
Well, when Curious George discovers a door leading from the lobby into a hallway toward the rear exit, Hundley the Doorman's Dachshund realizes that he's never seen anyone's using that doorway before, and so he follows Curious George into the rear alley, as the door closes behind them, locking them from Building 7.
Now, what are they to do? Curious George suggests that he climb into an upstairs window to return inside, to slide down the railing to open the door from within, but before they are able to enter, the door closes and locks them out once again.
And so they search the City, not recognizing landmarks from their vantage point regardless as to which way Curious George and Hundley the Doorman's Dachshund turn. They pass one noisy street after the next, hearing hearing children playing, a police officer's whistle and a musician's horn, before they arrive in the park, not knowing which way to turn.
But if Hundley the Doorman's Dachshund, who has a keen sense of hearing, is willing to join forces with Curious George, then perhaps Hundley the Doorman's Dachshund will be able to see to it that "Curious George Finds His Way."
