Playing the violin on the titanic

Johnny is always between a rock and a hard place, but I love his character and he really carries this show. Decent acting and well developed storyline.

Episode 3, Time to Hit Rock Bottom
Gislef4 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Daniel and Johnny both hit rock bottom, sort of. While Daniel deals with potentially losing his car dealership, Johnny is forced to turn to his stepfather Sid to beg for money for Miguel's surgery. It doesn't go well for either of them, but there's signs that things are looking up. Daniel travels to Tokyo to appeal directly to the board, while Johnny is reunited with Carmen.

There are some fun guest appearances along the way. Besides Ed Asner returning as Sid, we get Ron Thomas as Johnny's old friend and fellow Cobra Kai student Bobby, and David Shatraw ('Titus') as Tom Cole, Daniel's sleazy rival.

We also get some minor subplots, with Sam teaching the Miyagi-Do students in Daniel's absence. And Hawk leading the Cobra Kai students on robbing one of the Miyagi-Do students of the car wash money they've raised. Again, I'm having trouble reconciling this with Kreese's (and the production staff's) words last episode that everyone thinks there the heroes of their own stories. So... Hawk thinks he's a hero by beating up a younger kid and stealing over $1000 from him? Okay...

Robby is in juvie, (not) dealing with bullies, and Johnny doesn't visit him because he's busy praying with Carmen over Miguel. So basically the episode is either a placeholder, or sets up some ongoing plots like Daniel's trip to Tokyo. Which will pan out in future episodes. Not much happens here: there's some black comedy like when Johnny applies for a job and reveals his criminal past. You know, assaulting minors, assault & battery, the usual stuff.

The episode is mostly watching Johnny crawl, which will make his eventually getting on his feet that much sweeter. Daniel is never as in much danger, although you get the impression the production staff want us to think that. Maybe it's the on again/off again appearance of Cole. We do get the return of Anoush, and some amusing byplay between him and Louie about whether "goombah" is cultural appropriation or not. Again I prefer 'Cobra Kai' which gently pokes fun at current cultural tropes. As opposed to, say, the CW shows which bite and bite deep into them and use them as major story points rather than one-off jokes. Hi, Supergirl, I'm looking at you!

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?

Love the show but...

Macallan 18? The hell you think that anyone is going to break bread over a Macallan 18?? My 1990 Macallan Murray McDavid is worth more to me than a small child. Not realistic.

Another great episode!

Warning: Spoilers

This episode is full of great stuff! Lawrence going into the church (drunk, of course) assaultung his old friend the priest only to get beaten from him in front of the whole church was very funny. Then the LaRussos don't accept an offer to buy there business from a rival. (Middlefinger drawn on the contract) And last but not least Miagido students doing autowash to gain some money for Miguel who is awake and needs some financial help, only to find them being robbed by Cobra Kai.

And of course Kreese is working on his Cobra Kai team in the background. My expectations for the finale are growing Mister Kreese!

Pastor Bobby is a great balance.
Steve_Holt_31 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Pastor Bobby may be the only rational adult in this show besides Daniel's wife. I hope he makes more appearances. Daniel may be a self-righteous tool a lot of the time, but it's nice to know his wife is there speaking some level-headed reality to him. So it was nice seeing Johnny have someone to do the same for him.

The Johnny church entrance and Bobby's handling of it was awesome. I loved when they were talking later and the floor was a mess of crumb's under Johnny's feet.

I was really glad to see Miguel and Hawk in the hospital room. I really think they need to be the key focus of the youth side of this show, and not a lot of the silliness that they have been focusing on. It's clear these two have a real bond and they've essentially come up in this together. Now Hawk is feeling angry and defensive with all his new power, and Miguel is the number 1 bad ass who's sincerely trying to figure out how to do the right thing and be a good guy. Their divergent paths while having a tight bond should be the prime focus. Not more catfights or absurd nerd empowerment like the Dimitri stuff.

I'm anxious to see where Robbie's gonna go, and I'm finally starting to feel a little bit of interest and sympathy toward that character.

Good episode, but still not a great one yet this season.

Filler episode.
mm-3912 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Now You're Gonna Pay is a filler episode. La Russo's neglect of the car dealership creates business and family problems. More hospital intrigue can Lawrence help his top student aka soap opera style. What is worth watching is we see what happens to some of the original cast of the first movies. Worth watching, but only once.

only for the humor

"your wang can still get tang"? Lol, Johnny cracks me up constantly, he is so 1980's in every way. His job interview was hilarious, and when he tells Miguel to get up out of bed, so funny, "Nurse"! Otherwise this show is so cheesey, I have to get the crackers out to watch this nonsense.
