Nancy's Being Replaced -- Again
Nancy is given a promotion and a new hostess will replace her; Howard doesn't want his recipes transferred to the new computer.
This is one of the better Season 6 entries because of the A-story and Marian Mercer's performance. As the series prepares to wind down, we sort of come full circle. Nancy was fired due to her age in the Season 1 finale and the same thing sort of happens here, except in this case Nancy is given a new title (Director of Food Management) and Dot is selected to be the new hostess.
Nancy's outrage at this news is hysterically funny. When she tells Howard "before you know it, I'll be working in a coffee shop with a net on my head" I immediately thought of the diner scene in "You're Not Old, You're Fired". When Nancy informs the girls Irv said she was "too old", it's surprising Jan doesn't mention the age discrimination lawsuit. I guess the writers didn't want to go back that far to the ABC era.
It's too bad they didn't actually show Dot trying to do Nancy's job the way they had Lois take over in that classic Season 1 episode.
