Millie Bobby Brown might not be Adam Sandler, per se—he, the comedian who almost exclusively makes movies for Netflix these days— barring an indie or two, but ever since the “Stranger Things” star took off in that series, she’s stayed very close to the streamer. So far, she’s made two “Enola Holmes” movies for Netflix, has the “Electric Slide” coming later his year with the Russo Brothers and the streaming giant, but before that, she’ll star in “Damsel,” a new fantasy film premiering March 8.

When How I Met Your Mother premiered in 2005, many viewers instantly compared it to another popular sitcom that had just concluded its 10-season run the year prior — Friends. Both shows were about a group of friends braving New York City, but there were plenty of differences between them. And now, in 2023, How I Met Your Mother‘s spinoff, How I Met Your Father, featured a direct link to Friends in season 2.

"How I Met Your Father" is back, and no, we still don't know who the father is. But the season two premiere, which Hulu released on Jan. 24, promised something even bigger: a major cameo from a member of the original "How I Met Your Mother" cast. It's not surprising, since the season one finale featured Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky giving advice to Sophie (Hilary Duff) about her relationship with Jesse (Chris Lowell).
But in the season two premiere, viewers get a look at the original's most legendary cast member: Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson. Here's how it goes down.

Though it’s been two weeks since Election Day, many people are still struggling with the prospect of a Trump presidency. However, there are a few people who are doing their best to take it in stride, and one of them is transgressive filmmaker John Waters, who stopped by “The Late Show” last night to promote his Christmas comedy tour. At one point, Colbert asked what it would take to shock Waters and he replied, “Well, the election shocked me, certainly,” but then goes on to provide a measured response to the impending Trump administration.

What It Is: Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s iconic musical Cats returned to Broadway this summer, with British chanteuse Leona Lewis making her debut on the Great White Way as Grizabella, The Glamour Cat. (Her run in the show ended last month, and School of Rock actress Mamie Parris has since taken over the “Memory”-making role.) I went behind the scenes at the theater and got a crash course in stage makeup, skin-tight unitards and choreography before making my own debut on a Broadway stage.

The soundtrack for Electric Slide oozes throwback Eighties cool: Suicide, X, Gang of Four, Psychedelic Furs, Depeche Mode. The music has a gloriously dark sheen and undeniable pulse. The film itself, despite being based on a larger-than-life true story, is limp and anemic. Eddie "Gentleman Bank Robber" Dodson, a drug addict with a staggering habit, robbed 72 banks in his lifetime (64 of those within a nine-month period — still a record) to support that consumption and pay off loan sharks. He did more of the former than the latter, which makes for the film's only semblance of narrative tension. Directed by Tristan Patterson, this is part love letter to the Eighties (nightclubs, fashion, music), part half-baked character study of Dodson, and part reheated <i...

Jim Sturgess is defrauding banks in the new teaser trailer for the upcoming biopic, ‘Electric Slide,’ in which he plays real-life robber Eddie Dodson. The clip for the music-fueled crime film was distributed by Paragon Releasing, in anticipation of the drama’s release in Us theaters and on VOD on April 3. ‘Electric Slide’ marks the feature film writing and directorial debuts of Tristan Patterson, who forgoed the style of crafting a straight-forward biopic about Dodson. Instead, the filmmaker took aesthetic cues from the robber, as well as the unique moment he occupied in L.A.’s countercultural history. The result mimics a New Wave dream about the romantic outlaw who sought self-reinvention [ Read More ]

Normally, a film distributor would be overjoyed to be releasing an actress' first film after she wins an Academy Award, but Osiris Entertainment is demanding a big discount on the amount it agreed to pay for the new Patricia Arquette film, Electric Slide, currently due out in U.S. theaters in April. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Osiris Entertainment has submitted a claim against Electric Slide producer Myriad Pictures at the arbitration unit of the Independent Film & Television Alliance. The nature of the dispute is a timely one — something that probably wouldn't have been fought over when Arquette

Electric Slide
There's something about the Killer Films logo, that has me rooting for the film that follows every time. Christine Vachon's company has shepherded so many confrontational and interesting indie films and voices into the arthouse over the years that it has both a nostalgic pull And an edge, and those things rarely come conjoined.
Electric Slide, about a bank robbing loser in 80s Los Angeles, definitely has the confrontational edge part though it's not what you might call "interesting". The only likeable characters are way on the periphery (Vinessa Shaw is engaging despite very little to do as a furniture store employee) like the pretty bank tellers who really sell their brief moments of victimization and carnal attraction to Eddie. But as a film it's intensely narcissistic, less concerned with what you think of it, than what pose it's...

Over the past few months, some of the actors who stopped by the set of Terrence Malick's "Knight Of Cups" have shared their unique experiences working on the movie. Joel Kinnaman described having to deal with a seventeen-page monologue, Cate Blanchett called it a "quasi-religious" experience, Teresa Palmer talked about Malick's method of "torpedoing" the actors, and Antonio Banderas thinks he's made the final cut, though some of the material he doesn't even remember shooting. And now another actress reveals that she too has probably survived the editing process, but adds that we'll perhaps be waiting much longer to see the finished product.Yesterday we ran into "Electric Slide" actress Isabel Lucas and her director on that film, Tristan Patterson, as they made their rounds at the Tribeca Film Festival. We couldn't help but ask what she had coming up next, partially because we were kind of curious if...

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Tristan Patterson talked to Indiewire about "Electric Slide," which tells the story of famous bank robber Eddie Dodson. He's familiar with icon-centered chronicles - his last documentary, "Dragonslayer," followed a local skate legend. Talking about this new project in comparison, Patterson calls both works "portraits of outsiders in the city of Los Angeles, structured like mix tapes." Biggest challenge in completing this project? I wrote the script for “Electric Slide” awhile back. It was a film I was completely obsessed with making, but the financing kept falling apart. I went off and made my first film, “Dragonslayer,” instead. There are certain overlaps between the two films—both are portraits of outsiders in the city of Los Angeles that are structured like mix tapes—but it was a bit surreal to go from documenting a 23-year gutter punk skating through the California wasteland to a...

The elusive “Golden Ticket”. Beginning next Wednesday (December 4th) in a wave of four announcements, is when the official word comes out. Plenty of filmmakers are already in the know, but some will find out over the course of this Thanksgiving weekend. Having covered the festival and fest circuit for some time now, we’re already aware that worthy films that were indeed submitted will be excluded from the ’14 edition. Thousands of filmmakers won’t get the phone call, and while it can bruise dreams, this is not a rejection of quality…but rather, a preference from a programmer/programming team which reflects a larger mandate. John Cooper, Trevor Groth et al. have a difficult job and the way I see it, it’s the equivalent to draft day for a major professional sport – where a team in a given turn doesn’t go for the consensus pick, but instead...

With heavy critical praise (we were huge fans of the film here on the site) his award-winning debut Dragonslayer (Grand Jury Prize Winner for Best Documentary at SXSW in 2011) made the type of waves that essentially jettisoned it’s filmmaker into a larger land of opportunity and a rapid shift from docu to narrative. Jim Sturgess & Isabel Lucas Do 'The Electric Slide' In Former Ewan McGregor & Carey Mulligan Project
The American Film Market is in full swing at the moment, and back at the event in 2009, “The Electric Slide” was being shopped to potential buyers with a mocked up poster featuring its attached stars, Ewan McGregor and Carey Mulligan. Fast-forward three years and the film is back at the Afm where Myriad Pictures has taken on sales duties for the flick, which is now being top-lined by Jim Sturgess and Isabel Lucas. The film is based on the true story from the 1980s of a Los Angeles furniture store owner called Dodson (Sturgess) who robbed a bank to impress his new girlfriend. The handsome and charismatic Dodson went on to rob 72 more banks in just a matter of months, and earned himself the nickname The Gentleman Bandit after often charming bank tellers into emptying their cash draws. The film will be directed by Tristan Patterson (who also penned the script), and Patricia Arquette,...

Production companies Hunting Lane Films & Silverwood Films are officially on their last legs, as Deadline got the exclusive news that Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell have come together to form the new production shingle called Electric City Entertainment. Crystal Powell and Katie McNeill will be production vice presidents, Mark Tuohy director of development. Collectively they've helped launch the careers of helmers we hold dear to our cinephilic hearts in Ryan Fleck and Derek Cianfrance. They've contributed to the burgeoning careers of talented behind the scenes folk such as Cinematographer Andrij Parekh, Art Director Inbal Weinberg and Costume Designer Erin Benach. And Ryan Gosling has been the biggest winner on the three times that Patricof and Howell (and producer Alex Orlovsky) got together for a shared common goal. Sundance/Park City which has become a second home to both producer's independent productions will likely be the last time where we see...

Getting a film off the ground is no easy feat, and for a first time filmmaker, that task tends to be all the more difficult. However, for director Tristan Patterson, he's gotten off to a helluva start. His first film, the SXSW Best Documentary winner "Dragonslayer," has put him firmly on the map. We caught up with the film at IFFBoston and thought it was great, calling it a boundary pushing flick that created an authentic moviegoing experience. But what most people may not know is that Patterson was initially attached to make "Electric Slide" his film debut. The film…...

It seems that there is about to be another run on the banks! Following on from the success of Ben Affleck’s The Town, Spider-Man and Obi-Wan Kenobi are both looking to take out a few withdrawals of their own – with two competing heist movies!
Andrew Garfield (“Spider-Man“, “The Social Network“) and Ewan McGregor (“Angels & Demons“, “The Ghost“) are both in talks for bank heist movies according to the sources of La Times. The first project, entitled The Robber, is a remake of a German film and based on a true story which will see Garfield playing a marathon runner who robs banks for the sheer sport of it. The second project, the dubiously titled Electric Slide, is also based on a true story and would see McGregor playing a “Gentleman thief” who robbed banks all over Southern California back in the 80s. This from La Times:

Here's a massive news roundup that should get you caught up on all the major developments from over the weekend. Let's get to it.
No doubt capitalizing on the surprise success of last year's The Town and (to a lesser extent) Takers, the L.A. Times has the scoop on two more bank robbery films looking to make it to the big screen:
Andrew Garfield in Red Riding: 1974The first is a remake of the recent German film The Robber, which centers on a marathon runner who robs banks for sport. Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, The Amazing Spider-Man) is a fan of the original and has expressed interest in playing the lead, which is based on German bank robber Johann Rettenberger. The film is said to be gaining momentum at Sony Pictures.

Ewan McGregor as a bank robber? Why not, when Andrew Garfield can do it, McGregor can do it as well!
Check this out then, McGregor is set to star in project titled Electric Slide, that will follow McGregor as “gentlemen bank robber” Eddie Dodson who robbed banks all over Southern California but without actually using a gun. As you see, being a bank robber is quite popular these days in Hollywood.
I must admit that this other project, Electric Slide sounds better. Here’s a little description of a biopic about real-life thief Eddie Dodson:
“Dodson owned a hip L.A. antiques store in the 1970s, frequented by celebrities, but became addicted to heroin towards the end of the decade, and in 1983 turned to bank robbing to support his habit.
Known as the New York Yankees Bandit, Dodson peacefully and politely robbed 64 banks in seven months (a record), picking up more than $280,000 for his troubles,...

[1] It's been rumored [2] for the past month or so that Kristen Stewart would be starring in Snow White and the Huntsman, one of three [3] Snow White-themed films in the works, and we finally have confirmation. Producer Palak Patel has tweeted that the Twilight actress is in the final stages of negotiation and will officially sign next week. Though his tweets were quickly deleted, this being the Internet, at least one person managed to grab an image before they were taken down. Patel's tweets read as follows: @aurastew KStew is officially playing Snow White and her deal is in final negotiations and will close next week. @cenup official confirmation coming next week. But we are in final negotiations. Stewart will be joining previously confirmed stars Charlize Theron, who will play the evil queen, and Viggo Mortensen, who will play the titular huntsman. Ewan McGregor and Andrew Garfield are two of the finer actors coming from England, so it’s great that they’ve both been embraced by American audiences in films like the Star Wars prequels or The Social Network. And it’s this appreciation that makes it easy to believe that the two of them will be starring in their own American bank heist films.
24 Frames lets us know that the two actors are getting factual tales of money-grabbing debauchery. First, Garfield is said to be interested in a remake of the cleverly-titled German robbery movie, The Robber. That film centered around a marathon runner who robs banks for sport, based on actual German thief, Johann Rettenberger. His interest in the role started after seeing the original, and it may be his follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man. It had a more existential quality to it than American audiences are likely used to,...

Fans of heist films get ready for some good news! There are currently two new heist films gaining momentum in Hollywood that plant to get back to the basics of bank robbery. Sony is considering making a film called The Robber, which is a remake of a well-regarded German movie about a marathon runner who robs banks for sport. According to a source close to the project, Andrew Garfield has seen the original film and is interested in playing the lead part.
The original film was directed by Benjamin Heisenberg and was based on the true story of the German bank robber Johann Rettenberger. Writers are currently being sought for the new project to add a degree of backstory to make the film more palatable to a mainstream American audience.
The second film in the works is from the producers of Blue Valentine. The long gestating project titled Electric Slide...

Last year there was some decent bank robbing going on in theaters with the crime drama The Town from Ben Affleck, but now two of Britain's biggest stars are each circling their own robbery films. 24 Frames has word on two different projects in development with Andrew Garfield and Ewan McGregor circling. The first film is called The Robber, a remake of the German film that would see Garfield as a marathon runner who robs banks for sport. The second project, Electric Slide, would see McGregor as "gentlemen bank robber" Eddie Dodson who robbed banks all over Southern California but without actually using a gun. With The Robber, producer Laura Ziskin, the woman behind The Amazing Spider-Man, is also behind the project so Garfield's involvement could certainly be official sooner than later. Apparently the original film from Benjamin Heisenberg has been described as being an existential inquiry as much as an...

Ewan McGregor is the world’s greatest bank robber.Don’t worry, though, readers (and, indeed, the Empire lawyers; and any members of the Metropolitan Police, who might be preparing to feel Ewan’s collar) – it’s only a movie.McGregor, who’s becoming increasingly busy of late now that he seems to have stopped zooming around the world on a motorbike, is in talks to star in The Electric Slide, a movie that documents the incredible true-life adventures of Eddie Dodson, aka The Yankee Bandit.During the early 1980s, Dodson – an antiques dealer who turned to robbery to feed a heroin addiction, and who was known as the Yankee Bandit because of his propensity for wearing a Yankee ball cap - robbed an astonishing 72 banks in the Los Angeles area, without using violence. He was eventually arrested by the pesky Feds, and died in 2003 after a couple of stints in prison.

There a bunch of stories that broke tonight in the Hollywood trade newspapers, and I just don’t have time to cover them at length, so I thought I’d do a quick trade news run-down.
Ewan McGregor and Carey Mulligan are in talks to star in Tristan Patterson’s The Electric Slide, about a guy who robbed more than 72 banks in the 198’s before getting caught by the FBI. I mention this news because after seeing Milligan in An Education at Sundance, I’m convinced she is the next big thing. Any project she’s involved in should be added to your movie que. [Variety]
All four principal cast members (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon) and writer-director Michael Patrick Kin have signed on for Sex and the City 2. Not sure about you guys, but I wasn’t even interested in the first film, nevermind a sequel.

Once again I bring you the best round-up of all the movie updates announced in this past week's trade reports. Why read a Ton of articles when you can read just one? This week we get new cast members added to films such as Law Abiding Citizen and Carmel. An unlikely trio may team up for a DreamWorks Animated feature. John Carpenter returns to the director's chair with Amber Heard who will also join Johnny Depp in Rum Diary. Jennifer Lopez may be in another movie and that Judy Garland biopic may be quite good. Oh, and Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman are teaming for a new film and check out the casting on Mary, Mother of Christ, that could potentially be a decent little flick. Check out the full list and links are available if the film is in the database already. Enjoy! Title: Law Abiding Citizen
