Sabrina Carpenter has released a few iconic songs and one of them is “Nonsense.” During an interview, she revealed her fans harassed her into creating a new version of it. Carpenter explained what she was thinking when she rewrote the tune.
Sabrina Carpenter turned 1 of her hits into a Christmas song
Pop songs and Christmas songs tend to be very different. However, there are examples of pop artists releasing Christmas versions of their hits. For example, there are Yuletide versions of “Macarena” and “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings.” Carpenter added that she decided to give “Nonsense” a Christmas spin with the track “A Nonsense Christmas.”
During a 2023 interview with Grammy.com, the “Espresso” singer explained why it felt right for her to rerecord “Nonsense” as a holiday tune. “I got so lucky with the lives ‘Nonsense’ has taken on, because I don’t think I could have done...

Oddly enough, Marilyn Monroe and Madonna became part of each other’s mythos — Monroe paved the way for Madonna, while Madonna made sure Monroe was still a big part of American popular culture. Madonna explained why she mimicked Monroe in the “Material Girl” music video. Interestingly, Monroe was not the only star from the 1950s and 1960s to inspire the “Like a Prayer” singer’s style.
‘Material Girl’ era Madonna said she was ‘attracted to’ aspects of Marilyn Monroe
The “Material Girl” music video is a recreation of Monroe singing “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” from the campy musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. According to the book Madonna: An Intimate Biography, Madonna explained her idea for the clip. “Marilyn was made into something not human in a way, and I can relate to that,” she said. “Her sexuality was something everyone was obsessed with, and that I can relate to.

Fans of 1980s pop music rejoice! Cher and Cyndi Lauper have blessed us with a duet! During an interview, the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer discussed how the song came to be. Lauper also revealed what she thought of Cher back in the day.
Cyndi Lauper was the 1st singer Cher called to work on her Christmas album
During a 2023 interview with Paper, Cher discussed her debut Christmas album, Christmas. “All of a sudden, the Christmas album came up again,” she said. “I mean, it’d been coming up my whole life and I’d always been going, ‘Yeah, no,’ and somehow this was different. When I started, I was totally into it. I called Cyndi first and then I called Stevie [Wonder] and then Darlene [Love].”
Two other stars appeared on Christmas: traditional pop revivalist Michael Bublé and rapper Tyga. Cher was surprised she was able to work with both artists.

Sometimes a celebrity will host "Saturday Night Live" for the first time and absolutely nail it, and Ryan Gosling is the perfect example. His episode was a surprise highlight of the 41st season, with its big claim to fame being that viral alien sketch with Kate McKinnon. The clip has 58 million views on YouTube in part because of how well-written and performed McKinnon's crass, disgruntled character is, but it's also because Gosling gets hit hard by the giggles halfway through. Actors breaking on "SNL" can be a lot of fun when it feels genuine, and Gosling's hosting stints were filled with him trying (and failing) not to laugh in live sketches.
But in that 2015 debut episode of his, maybe Gosling's best performance was actually "Santa Baby," a pre-taped sketch in which he and Vanessa Bayer play a married couple at a polite neighborhood Christmas party. The catch is that...

Cher, let’s switch voices. In a new interview with Paper Magazine, the pop legend revealed that she’s not a “fan of Cher” and that she thinks her voice is “weird.”
“I just never liked my voice that much. If I had my choice, I probably would have another one, but I didn’t get my choice. I got my mother’s voice,” she told Paper‘s Justin Moran. “It’s weird. It doesn’t sound like a man, it doesn’t sound like a woman. I’m somewhere more in-between.

There are no grudges held between Cher and Madonna – if you are to believe Cher, at least. Rumors of a feud were reignited, when, as part of her 40th anniversary Celebration Tour, Madonna introduced a clip from a 1991 interview where the “Believe” singer calls the Queen of Pop “mean.”

Stripped of a handful of tracks filled with contemporary signifiers, Cher’s Christmas could have been released at any point in the singer’s nearly six-decade career. Whether it be a faithful rendition of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” featuring the original queen of Christmas, Darlene Love, or the ingratiating original song “Christmas Ain’t Christmas Without You,” the majority of the album’s 13 tracks opt for a traditional holiday approach.
It’s when Cher and frequent collaborator Mark Taylor steer the project toward the long-dated dance-pop of the pair’s late-’90s smash “Believe” that the sleigh goes off the rails. For one, the album’s paint-by-numbers opening track, “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” is marred by a rudimentary hook—“DJ, play a Christmas song/I wanna be dancing all night long”—and gratuitous Auto-Tune and half-step key change. Cher is ready to pack her bags if a certain former president finds his way back into the Oval Office. In a broad-ranging interview with the Guardian, the singer was asked how she felt about Donald Trump being potentially re-elected.
“I almost got an ulcer the last time,” Cher replied. “If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave [the country].”
She also discussed the issue of trans rights, reflecting on the ongoing pushback from the right and the constant laws being passed against trans people in the U.S.

Cher is skipping over Halloween and heading straight for Christmas, her first-ever holiday album set for release on Oct. 20. The first single from the record, “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” finds the singer losing herself in the escapism of dance, with no jingle bells or mentions of sleigh rides anywhere in the three-and-a-half minute pop spectacle.

Who needs to believe in life after love when you can believe in the magic of Christmas? Cher is finally gifting us with a holiday album, and she’s previewing it with lead single “DJ Play a Christmas Song.” (Our condolences to the “no Christmas music before Halloween” camp.)
Cher’s Christmas arrives October 20th via Warner, and pre-orders are ongoing. It comprises 13 songs total, supplementing a nice collection of classic tunes like “Santa Baby” and “Run Run Rudolph” with a handful originals. It also boasts a pretty wild grab-bag of featured artists, including Stevie Wonder, Cyndi Lauper (nice), Michael Bublé (naturally), and… Tyga.

Merry Christmas, one and all, it's time to break out the mince pies (as if you haven't already), pour the prosecco and put on some festive music.
Christmas songs don't always have to be merry – among the most beloved festive tunes are "2,000 Miles" by The Pretenders, which is curiously bleak, and the heartbreak of Wham!'s "Last Christmas".
Of course, there are plenty of upbeat songs on our list, too, from Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" to Mariah Carey's"All I Want for Christmas is You".
Here are some of our favourites, from Forties classics to more recent pop hits, to get your Christmas celebrations into full swing.
18) “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” – John Lennon and Yoko Ono
There’s a caveat to the optimistic message of the song’s title. “War is over,” sing a choir of children over festive tambourines, but only, they add,...

In 1974, “Black Christmas,” a slasher horror film set on a college campus just before winter break, hit American theaters just before the holidays. Many years later, a 2006 version retold the tale. Now, moviegoers looking for a good scare are in for a creative re-imagining of the slasher tale with the Dec. 13 release of the very loose reboot. “Black Christmas” looks to move the slasher genre forward into new territory by honing in on themes of campus rape culture, systemic misogyny and the #MeToo movement.
In the original movie, sorority girls are picked off one by one by a deranged killer just before leaving for the holidays, and the ending, to director and co-writer Sophia Takal, was just too misogynistic. There was no “final girl” who evades death like in “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” or “Halloween” — instead, there was an open-ended threat that all of the sisters...

There are some holiday songs that haven’t aged particularly well, like “Santa Baby,” which is apparently about a toddler woman who is very horny for Santa; or “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” about a nosy kid who narcs on his mom; and “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” which paints Santa as a creepy old dude who…...

While you’re all busy debating the merits of playing “Baby It’s Cold Outside” in 2018, Miley Cyrus went to work revising the lyrics of another outdated Christmas classic: “Santa Baby,” which she debuted on the “Tonight Show” Thursday.
Her version includes solid lines, like: “Listen Santa to what I say/A girl’s best friend is equal pay.”
And these closing bars:
Santa baby, I’d love to know my ass won’t get grabbed
At work
By some ignorant jerk
Tell the dirtbags, to put away their chimneys tonight

Miley Cyrus gave holiday classic “Santa Baby” a much-needed update for 2018 on The Tonight Show with the help of Mark Ronson and Jimmy Fallon.
“I think I might need to change a few of these lyrics,” Cyrus told Fallon ahead of the performance. “Are you cool with that?” When Fallon argues that the lyrics are “classic,” Cyrus explains all the issues. “Am I saying I’m going to hook up with Santa if he buys me all this stuff?” she asks. Eventually Fallon concedes that she can do whatever she wants,...

Miley Cyrus respects the past, but she’s not a traditionalist. Thus, it was no surprise that she updated the lyrics to a Christmas classic when she appeared Thursday on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Cyrus performed the classic Eartha Kitt number Santa Baby. Of course, in an age where sensitivites are heightened, the lyrics of the decades-old song were called into question, as Cyrus noted: “Am I saying that I’m going to hook up with Santa if he buys me all this stuff?”
So a few changes later, Cyrus transformed the song into a feminist anthem. “Santa baby, I don’t need any fancy jewelry. Not me. I’ve got something else in mind. Don’t want diamonds, cash or stocks. Nothing that comes in a box. No more fluff, I’ve had enough. And I can buy my own damn stuff.”

Miley Cyrus is putting her own spin on the iconic tune "Santa Baby." The singer stayed true to her ideals by changing up the lyrics to the outdated and slightly sexist song when she performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Just before going onstage, she pointed out to host Jimmy Fallon that the song makes requests for yachts, cars and animal furs, which aren't necessarily the things Miley is wishing for. Not to mention the weird insinuation about possibly sleeping with Santa in exchange for gifts too? Then, there is also the small matter of Miley being a proud vegan. Honestly, the list goes on. So, when she took to the stage to sing, Miley surprised Fallon by singing, "Santa Baby, I...

When it comes to holiday songs that didn't age well, "Baby It's Cold Outside" has certainly been the talk of the town in 2018. But that doesn't mean it's the only problematic festive bop! Case in point: "Santa Baby," which is all about flirting with Santa in hopes that he'll give you dank gifts. Luckily, Miley Cyrus is here to rescue us from a future, inevitable controversy: this week on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she took it upon herself to give us the "Santa Baby" we deserve.
In this new version, Cyrus is an empowered woman who doesn't need diamonds and fancy cars from Santa . . . because she already bought them for herself! And if she were to ask for something from old St. Nick, it would be equal pay for women, and other much more useful things. We're adding this to our holiday playlist, right after the updated "Baby It's Cold Outside...

Miley Cyrus is putting a feminist touch on an old holiday classic.
Just before performing "Santa Baby" on Thursday's Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Cyrus meets up with Fallon to point out some of the lyrics to the song she had questions about. "Am I saying that I'm going to hook up with Santa if he buys me all this stuff?"
So she changes a few of the lyrics to match up with her own viewpoint, singing: "Santa baby, I don't need any fancy jewelry. Not me. I've got something else in mind....

We’re accustomed to horror movies using creativity and artistry to cover up their low budgets; a filmmaker can create plenty of scares with one set and a cast of four. The low-budget musical, on the other hand, is expected to provide splashy razzle-dazzle and grandeur with the same economy of means, and it’s a tougher genre to make succeed on a dime. That said, if you’re willing to overlook a little scruffiness at the edges, it’s a Christmas miracle that the Scottish import “Anna and the Apocalypse” works so well as both a horror movie and a musical.
And “Christmas miracle” should be taken literally, because this is a holiday movie as well. And if you don’t think the undead mix well with musical numbers and gaudy Yuletide decor, “Anna” might be the movie to change your mind.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Pose” Episode 3, “Giving and Receiving.”]
Christmas has come early to “Pose.” In fact, it arrived in June for Sunday’s episode, titled “Giving and Receiving,” which follows the yuletide experiences of the families in three different homes: the House of Evangelista, the House of Abundance, and the Bowes’ household.
Christmas movies, episodes, and TV specials have become a genre unto themselves, often appealing to non-Christian and secular viewers. While “Pose” may offer a more unique point of view to audiences unfamiliar with the ‘80s ballroom culture, its storytelling often falls into conventional patterns and tropes, and its Christmas episode is no different.
Series producer Our Lady J wrote “Giving and Receiving” with Janet Mock. “Beyond all of the glamour and glitz of the ballroom scene, ‘Pose’ is about family, and what better way to celebrate a TV family than a very special Christmas episode,” said Our Lady J to IndieWire.

Gwen Stefani is officially the new queen of Christmas!
The 48-year-old singer wowed fans with her NBC special, You Make It Feel Like Christmas, on Tuesday night, but it wasn't just her festive tunes and cute interstitials that made the show worth tuning in to (not that we were upset about Blake Shelton holding up mistletoe or an appearance by "Young Gwen"). She absolutely slay-belled the fashion game with ten amazing performance outfits.
The No Doubt frontwoman kicked off the show as our perfect present, shimmying to the classic "Jingle Bells" in a candy cane-inspired silver-and-red sequined leotard topped with a red bow.

Not only did "When I Was a Little Girl" make us weep, Stefani's mom also cried when her daughter performed it at the taping of the Christmas special. For the nostalgia-ridden ditty, the mom of three opted for a silver short-sleeved high-low dress with a full tulle skirt.

Leona Lewis is bringing holiday cheer -- to your ears!
The British songstress is back with a new version of her original Christmas song, “One More Sleep,” as part of Amazon Music’s holiday playlist, “All Is Bright,” and Et has the exclusive premiere of the reworked song. Lewis originally recorded “One More Sleep” with a full band for her 2013 album, Christmas, With Love. The new version is stripped down and, according to Lewis, takes inspiration from the girl groups of yesteryear.
“Doing this version with Amazon was really interesting, because it went back to the original style of how we had it in the beginning,” Lewis says. “We stripped everything away and made it more like a ‘60s ballad-style. It has a bit of a Supremes feel to it, but it still has those Motown elements, because that is what it was originally inspired by.”

In John McPhail’s gorehound musical “Anna and the Apocalypse,” one of the standout world premieres at this year’s Fantastic Fest, our high school heroine (Ella Hunt) sleeps through the start of a worldwide zombie attack, slips on her headphones, steps out her front door, and begins to sing. “It’s a beautiful day!” belts Anna. Behind her, one neighbor dies, another falls out of a window, and as the camera pulls back, we see her small Scottish town is on fire. Yesterday, her dad (Mark Benton), the school janitor, found out she’s skipping college for a gap year in Australia, the class bully Nick (Ben Wiggins) propositioned her in the cafeteria, and her dorky best friend John (Malcolm Cumming) nearly lost his job when he accidentally thwacked their co-worker with a bowling shoe.
