Matthew McConaughey has long been known as the quintessential Hollywood leading man. It’s not just the actor’s Oscar-winning performances that have earned him that title, but also his dashing good looks. Since the 90s, the actor has been positioned as one of the entertainment industry’s leading heartthrobs.
This reputation even led to McConaughey winning the tag of People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2005. It helped that the actor was a frequent leading man in rom-coms for a time. But while Matthew McConaughey is undoubtedly easy on the eyes, the actor’s personal hygiene leaves something to be desired. In past interviews, McConaughey has stated that he does not use deodorants, and this caused an issue between himself and Kate Hudson at one point.

Kate Hudson rocks a familiar look while stepping out for press on Thursday (January 4) in New York City.
The 44-year-old actress wore a fur trench coat that was very reminiscent of the coat she wore in one of her early, fan-favorite films Almost Famous!
While appearing on The View that day, Kate talked about her rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, which turned 20 years old in 2023, what made it so good, and what rom-coms are missing nowadays.
Keep reading to find out more…
“Honestly, I think it was well written,” she said. “I think there’s this sort of misconception that a rom-com is supposed to have a certain formula, which it does, there is a formula that works… But it does also start with the writing.”

Kate Hudson knows what makes a successful rom-com, but there’s one piece to the puzzle that is a little more difficult to come by.
During an appearance on Thursday’s episode of The View, the actress admitted that she finds it “hard to get male movie stars to make rom-coms.”
Hudson explained that having the right leading man is an important aspect of the movies. “As long as we can get more Marvel guys to like, you know, ‘Hey, come to a rom-com!,’ I think that that’s a big part of the formula, too,” she added.
The View‘s Sara Haines proceeded to ask Hudson why she thinks there’s a lack of appeal for male actors to take on romantic comedies.
“I think it’s about the writing, and how we’re investing in telling the story of the writing and the directors,” the actress responded. “If...

Matthew McConaughey’s McConaissance did wonders for his career, even helping him win his first Best Actor Oscar. But it turns out that era had the exact opposite effect on his bank account.
Matthew McConaughey made the least amount of money in his favorite year doing movies Matthew McConaughey | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
The McConaissance came about after McConaughey realized how dissatisfied he was with his career choices over the years. The actor was making a ton of money doing lighthearted rom-com movies like The Wedding Planner and Fool’s Gold. Although some of these movies generated respectable box-office returns, they left the actor feeling unfulfilled. This inspired McConaughey to make a frightening decision.
“I hunkered down with my wife and my agent and said, ‘I’m going to make a strong move. I’m going to go in the shadows for a while,’” McConaughey once told the Los Angeles Times. “And...

In a recent roundtable interview with Entertainment Weekly alongside “Priscilla” co-star Cailee Spaeny and director Sofia Coppola, Jacob Elordi revealed that he ate a pound of bacon a day to play Elvis Presley.
“You ate a lot of bacon,” Coppola said to Elordi. She then explained, “Priscilla [Presley] told us that Elvis liked really burnt bacon.”
“I averaged, like, a pound of bacon a day,” Elordi said. “It’s not that noticeable because I’m quite long, but I was the biggest I’ve ever been.”
Spaeny then brought up the popular story of the “Fool’s Gold” loaf: the massive 8,000-calorie sandwich comprised of a pound of bacon, a loaf of sourdough bread, a jar of peanut butter and a jar of jelly that Presley first discovered at the Colorado Mine Company restaurant in Denver. And yet, the earliest plans for How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days didn’t include Hudson as the leading lady. Here’s who was the first choice to play Andie Anderson and how the part ended up going to Hudson. Plus, how Hudson helped seal the deal on McConaughey.

Matthew McConaughey was a king of the romantic-comedy genre in the early 2000s, and it turns out it’s all thanks to a fortune teller. The Oscar winner already had one rom-com hit under his belt with 2001’s “The Wedding Planner” when the offer to star opposite Kate Hudson in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” came along. Did McConaughey really want to dive right into another rom-com?
“I remember considering whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Blvd.,” McConaughey told Vanity Fair as part of a new “How to Lose a Guy” oral history. “Suddenly, this guy comes up out of nowhere to me — he was a fortune teller guru [and] goes, ‘Can I tell you your fortune real quick?'” McConaughey said. “I was like, ‘Yeah, man. Sure.'”
“He immediately goes, ‘There’s a movie you’re considering right now.

The other big original series this month is animated mystery comedy Velma. Brought to life by Mindy Kaling, this show will be all about Scooby-Doo’s bespectacled buddy Velma Dinkley. Jinkies indeed!
There aren’t any major HBO Max original movie releases this January. The first of the month sees the arrival of Ghostbusters (1984), Hereditary, John Wick, and more. Recent theatrical release The Menu premieres on Jan.

Kate Hudson has once again addressed kissing her former co-stars, Matthew McConaughey and Billy Crudup.
The Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery star has appeared in a handful of romcoms throughout her career, most notably How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days (2003) and Fool’s Gold (2008) opposite McConaughey and Almost Famous (2000) opposite Crudup.
Hudson has famously spoken numerous times about her on-screen kisses. Just last month, she explained why kissing McConaughey was “not that fun to shoot”. And even earlier, in 2020, she admitted that Crudup was a “good” kisser on Gwyneth Paltrow’s The goop Podcast in 2020.
“Can you tell me why you told Gwyneth Paltrow that this guy [Crudup] was a good kisser?” Hudson’s Glass Onion co-star Janelle Monáe asked on a new episode of Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test.

Kate Hudson has addressed the debate surrounding nepotism in Hollywood.
Hudson, who appears in new Knives Out sequel Glass Onion, is the daughter of actor Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson.
After several roles in the 1990s, Hudson, 43, rose to prominence in 2000 after playing Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous.
Over the next decade, she scored a string of roles in films including How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), You, Me and Dupree (2006), Fool's Gold (2008) and Bride Wars (2009).
During a new interview with The Independent, Hudson brushed off the recent conversation surrounding Hollywood’s favouring of “nepo babies” – stars who have successful parents.
In recent weeks, actor Zoë Kravitz, who is the daughter of musician Lenny Kravitz and actor Lisa Bonet, and Lily Allen, who is the daughter of actor Keith Allen, have defended themselves over the debate.
Hudson, though, isn’t so fussed.

Kate Hudson has explained why she found a Matthew McConaughey kissing scene “not that fun to shoot”.
The actor appeared opposite the Oscar winner in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) and Fool’s Gold (2008), and previously described a romantic scene they shared in the latter as “gross”.
“Every time I kissed McConaughey, I mean, it’s like there’s just something happening and there’s like snot, or wind,” Hudson, 43, said.
Speaking about the scene during a forthcoming appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Hudson explained that the reason it “was definitely not that fun to shoot” was due to the fact it occurred in the sea.
“Ocean, swimming and kissing is not always pleasant,” she said, adding: “Things happen in the ocean, like yuckiness… we’re like treading water trying to stay above water.”
Hudson continued: “Matthew and I have had very romantic kisses and then we’ve had very non-romantic kisses.

Tianna Johnson’s “Obeah” has topped The Brit List, an annual league table of top unproduced screenplays from the U.K.
Established in 2007 and similar to The Black List in the U.S., The Brit List is compiled from recommendations by British production companies, talent agencies, sales companies, financiers, distributors and broadcasters.
The list includes both feature and television screenplays.
Johnson’s urban fantasy drama, which scored fifteen recommendations, tells the story of a woman on the hunt for a serial killer. The teleplay, set in North West London, incorporates indigenous spiritual practices from the Caribbean.
In second place with thirteen recommendations was “Maps” by Jessica Drewett, a sci-fi drama set in an installer mine.
To be included on the list scripts need at least 7 recommendations.
In 2021, 300 scripts were submitted of which 18 received the requisite number of recommendations. Nearly a third were feature scripts. 65% of the list is made up of female writers.

Alright, alright, alright, Matthew McConaughey is here to set the record straight about his onscreen kissing skills. In October, Kate Hudson said on Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop podcast that she hasn't had the "best kissers" when it comes to her co-stars, noting McConaughey "had snot all over his face" during a scene in the ocean in the 2008 film Fool's Gold. Now, the 51-year-old actor is defending himself in an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment. "In Fool's Gold," he said, "It's like, 'Ok, here's the scene: You're in the middle of the ocean. You go under the water, so on 'Action,' go into the water and then come up out...
