Xena persues bad guy Hesiod while Gabrielle awakens three Titans. Around 800 to 700 B.C. the Greek poet Hesiod wrote 'Theogeny', which tells us how the old gods, the Titans, came to be and how the young Olympian gods overthrew them.
Phyleus thought that using the chant to awaken the Titans would bring back a golden age of man. It is hard to tell when a writer is being clever vs being lucky. In Hesiod's 'Works and Days' the time when the Titans (led by Kronos) ruled the earth was 'The Golden Age' of peace and prosperity when all mankind was happy.
The language that Gabrielle reads from the scroll to awaken the titans is Greek.
