Action episode yes, but not only. It's also a powerful study of inner life of cops on and out of duty. To summarize, pure Jo Wambaugh stuff. The recurrent bar scenes with cops among them, a place where they usually are better than with their own families who often don't understand them. The usually veteran against rookie scheme, as we had in NEW CENTURIONS, Jo Wambaugh's highlight. I did not believe Georges Maharis as the veteran in this story - he looks so young - but after all, why not? Many cops in the forties may look young and fit.
Not many changes if you dare to compare to the others, even the best ones, but all episodes are good. All of them. And I was amazed by the old acquaintances here, with the likes of Scott Brady, Royal Dano, Sal Mineo; all the band was there !!! Don Medford made it, so you don't have to worry, this guy was a real pro.
