A Decent Sonny-Centric Episode
A visit from Sonny's impossible-to-please mother has him on edge.
This is the best Sonny-centric episode thus far in the series. It lacks the heart of the ABC-era episodes, which is a shame because the story here is much stronger than the Season 2 episodes where he was front and center. Veteran character actress Nita Talbot receives Special Guest Star billing as Rose Manashevitz.
Paul Kreppel plays his own father in a flashback where 13-year-old Sonny blows an audition at the prestigious Julliard School of Arts. This sequence is notable for a pre-SAVED BY THE BELL Dustin Diamond ("Screech") playing the young Sonny.
Sonny dresses up like Liberace at work to impress Rose but ends up literally all wet. It's nice to see the girls comfort Sonny after witnessing Rose's mistreatment of him. Amy tells one of her more amusing Snyder stories.
Nancy makes a funny reference to the Bee Gees song "I Started a Joke".
