Fool Time today is about all things suck...er, stuck. Tim and Al demonstrate how to remove stuck nails and screws from pieces of wood or metal, or any other place one would happen to get stuck. Including an old tricycle, which was Al's father's and he hopes to one day pass it on to his own child. Yeah, that's probably not gonna happen. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Al WILL have children. I'm just referring to the fact that he actually brought the thing on Tool Time for Tim to work on. The idiot then sets it on fire, because... I guess they didn't reach their fire quota in the last episode. So if you stuck around after that, we get to see the Taylor family's morning routine: Brad, Randy and Mark fight over the bathroom, even though the house has a total of 3, and Tim does stomach crunches. He's got a very perplexing routine, but he sticks to it like glue. After class, Jill goes down to the diner to complain to Deloris and Marge about Tim and his routine. It seems to be the same case in their homes, as their husbands are sticklers for following a routine too, and judging by a nearby elderly couple, it ain't gonna change with age. That night, Jill had a dream: of her future aged self having been in college for 35 years (big shock) and is finally going to get her masters, but old, senile Tim keeps bugging her, as do their boys who apparently have discovered the fountain of youth, because they're still teenagers. They're still fighting over the shower, and it's still not funny.
Old Tim suddenly feels hot and goes to open the door...see that big stack of papers on the table? Watch'em go! She wakes up and starts hitting Tim with a pillow, over something he did to her in a dream. They bicker some more about Tim's damn routine, then he goes back to sleep and this time HE has the dream: Jill is an old, feeble woman, and Tim is a gray-haired Mr. Universe. He's still a show-off in his old age, and tries to impress his wife by bench-pressing the coffee table. Yeah, he's a self-obsessed jerk with an inflated ego...that hasn't gotten better over time. Speaking of which, Fool Time is STILL in production all those years in the future. Al is old and feeble, but can still have a good joke at Tim's expense, and despite Al's mother being dead for 25 years, Tim STILL cracks jokes about her. So FINALLY, Al quits, and then Heidi quits when Tim won't let her have Al's lines. He doesn't care. The two members of the dedicated audience still like the show, right? Not really, they only show up because it's "part of their routine." So Tim goes home, not at all remorseful about how he treated his friends, the douchebag, and he goes to talk to Wilson, who is now a befuddled old coot fresh out of anecdotes and quotations to advise Tim with. So, old Mr. Taylor goes back inside and sees Jill had tried to lift the coffee table, and it ended up crushing her to death. All that karma Tim was stirring up was bound to strike sooner or later. Tim wakes up, a little sadder and wiser. He tries to readjust his routine right then and there. Were these the shadows of things that will happen, or might happen? Tim doesn't wanna take any chances. So they have one more dream: this time, Tim and Jill as old, virile people, both in equally good shape, and equally as frisky. If you find this scene at ALL sexy, just picture your grandparents making out. It'll stomp out that campfire.
I remember watching this episode the first night it aired...and I hated it then too! Where to start? I felt acrimonious about Tim destroying Al's father's tricycle. That whole problem segment was NOT funny. All the routine talk was NOT funny. The boys are young in Jill's old-person dream was NOT funny. NOTHING in this crap was even remotely funny to anybody...unless maybe you're 6 years old. The script for this episode was horrendous. The directing was terrible. The acting was over the top. This felt like a damn cartoon! The only saving grace was the old-people make-up. That alone made the senior scenes worth looking at. Season 6 is NOT off to a good start, in my opinion. Please, do yourself a favor and skip "Future Shock", because it's shockingly UNFUNNY.
