- Mrs. Berg: Oh, Mr. Reardon, you still have some phone messages left from yesterday. I couldn't help but notice they're all from the same person, your father.
- David Reardon: They certainly are.
- Mrs. Berg: But I thought I heard you tell Mr. Shorofsky that your father was dead?
- David Reardon: [sighs] He was.
- Mrs. Berg: Oh.
- [Reardon leaves]
- Mrs. Berg: Well, congratulations on his, uh...
- Tom Reardon: So what are you up to?
- David Reardon: Um... just trying to find a lost kid who hates me.
- Tom Reardon: Me too.
- Tom Reardon: Families are the one thing in life that's supposed to go on and on... It's sad when one of them passes away.
- Tom Reardon: I guess you get to be an adult when you realize that the reason some ships pass in the night is to avoid a collision.
