Strong two-parter
Fluke_Skywalker20 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
*- This review is for parts 1 & 2 of War of the Gods Apollo, Starbuck and Sheba encounter a mysterious man on a desolate planet. Brought back with them to the Galactica, he slowly begins to reveal both his powers and less than noble intentions.

Now more than half way through the first and only season of the original Battlestar Galactica, I can say with some confidence that it is much better than its reputation. Sure there's a certain nostalgia factor for me, as I grew up with it (mostly in re-runs and Saturday marathons in the 80s), but not enough to color my opinion. There's a reasonably well thought out mythology here that I had no memory of, and it's fleshed out even more in this rock solid two-parter. Featuring guest star Patrick Macnee as the mysterious Count Iblis, it maintains an atmosphere of mystery and quiet dread while also taking the drama off the Galactica and letting us see life amongst the rest of the "rag tag" fleet. Not since the pilot movie had they shown this much of the Galactica beyond its bridge or the rest of the fleet in its charge.

Mcnee is wonderful here, playing Iblis with a mixture of charm and subdued menace. Every bit his equal is Lorne Greene, who brings gravitas and veritas to dialog and situations that would be or sound silly in lesser hands. The rest of the cast also raise their game, feeding off the quality of the material and the veteran actors leading the charge.

Things get as little New Agey in the climax, but then was the 70s. At least they didn't disco dance.

Another movie made into an episode!

Warning: Spoilers
War of the Gods is, another movie made into an episode!

War of the Gods is mythology of space beings and the Devil. Of course Apollo and Starbuck see this bright orbs and wonder what is going on. Food grows aplenty on the farm ship! Pilots disappear and the finding of a strange man from a crashed ship who wants all to follow him! The council of 12 interviews the mysterious man who displays great public displays with the game triade and three miracles. One miracle is to bring Baltar to the Battlestar. Sheba and other follow the mysterious being. A memorable episode for story. Our neighbor Fred as kids tape recorded this episode and we all listen to it on the street over and over again and talked about what will happen with part 2? Keep the viewers guessing. 7 stars.

Brilliant sci fi
keyope23 September 2018
This two parter is possibly the best thing Battlestar Galactica ever did. As far as Sci fi goes it has a bit of everything. Compared to some of the earlier episodes this is on a totally different level.

The first part of War of The Gods has action, intrigue and some cool SFX (for it's time). First up, some mysterious lights flying through space, followed by a giant spacecraft lead to the disappearance of some of the Viper pilots who are out on patrol. Then, when Starbuck, Apollo and Sheba investigate a crash site on a nearby planet they come across a mysterious stranger, Count Iblis (wonderfully played by Patric McNee, who also does the voiceover in the opening credits of every episode). Iblis convinces the three warriors not to inspect the crash because of radiation issues. He then comes aboard the Galactica and some strange things happen. It's a perfect set up for the second episode. Well written stuff and well acted.
