With SD-6 no more it will be interesting to see how the series progresses. In the final moments of the previous episode we learnt that Arvin Sloane, working with Sark, had engineered the destruction of the Alliance by the CIA and had somehow replaced Sydney's friend Francie with somebody of identical appearance. Clearly it will be a while before we learn just what is going on but things start to be explained in this episode. It opens with two CIA agents together in Berlin; one of them realises something is wrong with her partner but he immobilises her before she can alert Langley. The next thing we know she is being thrown from a van while wearing an explosive vest; minutes later she is blown up while the CIA watch on a news feed. She, along with her partner, James Lennox, had been investigating something called 'Project Helix'; knowing this Sydney and Vaughn set off on a mission to rescue Lennox; there is a problem though; Project Helix is a system to change one person's appearance so they look just like another so they have no idea if they have really rescued Lennox or if they have the doctor responsible for the project.
This was a great first episode of the post SD-6 Alias; it featured some great action; an intriguing mystery as well as hinting what will come next. Guest stars Ethan Hawke and Olivia d'Abo put in good performances as agents Lennox and Wallace; it was just a pity the latter got blown up so quickly although the plot demanded it. Fans of the previous episode's opening will be pleased to see Sydney emerging from a pool in a fetching blue bikini! By the end of the episode we learn who the real Lennox is but nobody knows that Francie is the second person to have been doubled and Sydney and Vaughn certainly don't know she has hidden a camera in Sydney's room when they sleep together for the first time!
