It's sometimes a common thing in friendship for people of the opposite sex, it comes to a point in their life when one or both begin to see each other differently and realize their more than friends and what they have together is something greater than friendship.
This episode is my third favorite of the show. For those that have seen the shorts and the specials, you probably saw this coming for both Ellen and Pete. The whole episode by it's nature is really a big build up to the climax (hense that science film) which is common for a lot of shows but this is one of the good ones.
We want both Pete and Ellen together, we don't want them separated by anything and anyone, and when it does happen we want them to find a way back to one another; kinda like with the show "Macross" we want Misa and Hikaru together.
I like the band plot line which of course is the perfect obsticale for Old Pete to contend with, he's littlerally one against a force of evil whom are the blowhole Band Teacher and his nefew whom are both incapable of love except for the glory their obsessed with attaining and are doing everything to keep both Old Pete and Ellen from connecting. Despite Old Pete's efforts to save Ellen's soul, he is just getting downtrodden.
I'll admit there was one moment where the nefew humulates Old Pete in a scuffle, that one thing he said to Old Pete just made me want to take that trumpet of his and shove it up....well you don't want to know; but yeah things like that and how much further apart Ellen is being drivien away from him just all the more made me want Old Pete to win.
There is even a subplot with Stu Benedict whom forces his passangers to go on his misery tour, it's really funny as he is just a sad pitiful sack. But his dilemma and Old Pete's parallel as both are separated from the one's they love all because both failed to take a chance in love.
Really like that speech near the end that Stu gives which I personally things that's part of what love is about and is the theme of this episode. If you ever find love or love comes; follow your feelings, risk it all, take a chance because it's the only way to truly connect to the one you love. Will Pete take that chance and light up the universe with Ellen, you have to wait and find out.
Pete and Ellen make beautiful music together.
