Lauren Cohan is one of the many stars to be fired into the public eye by The Walking Dead, having played the role of strong-willed Maggie Greene since Season 2 and has matured into a diplomatic, rational leader within the group.
The 33-year-old was launched to stardom by The Walking Dead, but she boasts a wealth of experience on the small screen, with several huge Us ‘box-set’ TV shows under her belt.
Cohan featured in The Vampire Diaries and Chuck, with guest appearances all across the networks on CSI: NY, Law & Order, and Modern Family.
She’s also held parts in films, including: Casanova and Death Race 2 as well as National Lampoon’s Van Wilder: The Rise Of Taj, though the latter production only returned $2.3 million, and earned a meager 7% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Cohan has just one project lined up for now, a role in a thriller...

What do these movies have in common: Punisher: War Zone, Awake, National Lampoons Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj, The Warriors Way? 1) They’re movies that barely made a dent at the box office; 2) they were also all released around the same time in their respective years. The first weekend of December has become a dumping ground for studios as most people either catch up with films released during Thanksgiving or don’t go at all. What does Killing Them Softly have in common with these movies? It’s getting the same release date...Ouch!

As we sat down to write the introduction to our list of notable film spin-offs, someone forwarded along a link to the big movie news story of the day: Tom Cruise announcing his plan to reprise his role as ultra-profane movie producer Les Grossman from the 2008 film "Tropic Thunder" in an as-yet-untitled comedy. Tom Cruise, in other words, is getting into the spin-off game.
So even though we're a week late in finishing this list inspired by "Get Him to the Greek" (more on that film in a bit), it's still plenty timely, and will continue to be as long as Hollywood exploits successful properties even after their original stars have moved on. Here's the elite company Mr. Grossman will be joining:
"Evan Almighty" (2007)
Original movie: "Bruce Almighty" (2003)
Spin-off character: Evan Baxter (Steve Carell)
When a spin-off brings along two original characters and the actors that played them -- in this case,...

Before National Lampoon became synonymous with piddling, amateurish direct-to-video trifles marketed with former Playboy models on the DVD cover, they made a couple of bona fide classic comedies (Animal House, Vacation), and before that, they made a magazine that many during its heyday considered their source for cutting edge satire. That history is now set to become a movie of its own, from documentary filmmakers Douglas Tirola and Susan Bedusa.
"Our goal is to tell the story of National Lampoon in a way that takes audiences back to an era with all of the laughs and tragedies that came along with it," Tirola told The Hollywood Reporter. I wouldn't consider the production of stuff like Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj a "tragedy", exactly, but I get it -- National Lampoon had its ups and downs, especially during its healthy 28-year magazine run (1970-1998). If the film is a success,...

Today Universal released Get Him to the Greek, a sort-of sequel to 2008's Forgetting Sarah Marshall as it uses Aldous Snow who had a small role in the original. Beyond that, there is only a brief reference to Sarah Marshall, which has me thinking it's not really a sequel as much as it is a spin-off. The same could be said for a movie like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)... Same characters, but not really a sequel to Clerks, which ended up having its own sequel in 2006.
In a debate with a group of fellow Seattle critics trying to decide if Get Him to the Greek was a sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall or not, the topic turned to comedy sequels in general and I was asked to name a great comedy sequel. Should be easy... right?

Kal Penn is ditching the White House for White Castle! The New Jersey native fled to the West Coast to study film and sociology at UCLA in Los Angeles, CA. Appearing in student run plays and theater productions, Penn caught the acting bug. His first big break came when he was cast alongside Ryan Reynolds and Tara Reid in the National Lampoon film Van Wilder (2002). In 2004, Penn scored the leading role with John Cho in the outrageous comedy Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) which was followed up four years later with Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008). A rep for the actor has announced that Penn will leave his post at the White House and return to acting to star in A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (2011). Penn is heading back to La-La Land to reprise his role in the third installment of Harold & Kuma. Last year, Penn decided...

When Kal Penn had the opportunity to join the new Obama administration as the Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, he did everything he could to cut his ties to Hollywood. Penn's character on "House" didn't just leave the show, he was killed off and it seemed pretty clear this was entirely new career path for the star of such films as "Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj" and "The Namesake." It appears that after a 15 months in Washington, Penn is getting the munchies again. Penn's "Harold and Kumar" co-star John Cho has hinted that a...

Once upon a time (say, around 1980 or so) National Lampoon was a brand name that really meant something. It meant Animal House and Vacation. If you plunked down your money, it meant that you would be entertained by the finest comedians the 1970s and 1980s had to offer. You were guaranteed a good time and possibly the loss of bodily function from laughing too hard. You were watching films that the National Film Registry would eventually deem culturally relevant and worthy of preservation. Tell that to the naysayers of 1978!
Actually, there were few naysayers in 1978. You may not realize it (or remember -- the '70s were a heady time) but when Animal House was released into theaters, Time Magazine proclaimed it one of the year's best, and Roger Ebert gave it four out of five stars, something that National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj couldn't achieve if...

Beleaguered production and distribution company Bauer Martinez Entertainment has laid off more than a quarter of its employees after its most recent films Harsh Times and National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj bombed at the boxoffice.
The Century City-based company let go eight of its 30 employees across all divisions on Dec. 4, the Monday following Van Wilder's $2.3 million bow.
According to company spokesman Dennis Higgins, no senior executives were let go, but employees in international sales, marketing, operations, home video and an executive assistant were laid off.
"We're going to focus more on productions next year, hoping to produce 2-3 movies," Higgins said. "There were no cuts in the production department."
Bauer Martinez made a splash at the 2005 Toronto Film Festival when it made an aggressive bid for the David Ayers film Harsh Times, paying $4 million for North American rights and select international territories. But the Christian Bale starrer, which was released Nov. 10, has grossed only $3.3 million domestically.

It was more of the same at the North American boxoffice this weekend as Warner Bros. Pictures' animated Happy Feet, Sony Pictures' updated James Bond movie Casino Royale and Buena Vista Pictures' actioner Deja Vu held onto the top three spots, respectively, from the previous Thanksgiving weekend.
None of the three new releases could break through the powerful triad. The one that got the closest, New Line Pictures' The Nativity Story, which landed in fourth place, did so with an uninspired $8 million bow.
As for the other two new releases, Fox Atomic's debut opener Turistas bowed at No. 8 to a weak $3.5 million, while MGM's release of Bauer Martinez's Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj grossed an estimated $2.3 million for the 10th spot.
In what is usually a soft weekend because of the post-Thanksgiving blues and a consumer focus on shopping, this frame actually ended up better than the comparable weekend last year when Paramount Pictures opened the disappointment Aeon Flux. The top 12 this frame were up an estimated 6% compared to last year.
Arriving in the wake of estimates that predicted a first weekend as low as $10 million and as high as $20 million, Nativity, from director Catherine Hardwicke, scored $8 million, clearly below what industry insiders were anticipating. Hoping to capitalize on the faith-based market, which has shown a real appetite for inspirational stories, Nativity -- the story of the birth of Jesus -- didn't seem to connect with the faithful. In addition, the film, which stars Whale Rider's Keisha Castle-Hughes as Mary, didn't generate the type of reviews that would draw traditional moviegoers. New Line, which has recently weathered a slew of disappointing openings, including last weekend's Jack Black-starrer Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny, is hoping that strong pre-sales from church groups will buoy the film's performance throughout the holiday season.
"It was the bottom range of where we wanted to be," said David Tuckerman, New Line's president of domestic distribution. "Part of our problem is this movie was made for the heartland, and the weather couldn't have been worse."...
