Roadmap Writers, a screenwriting education and training platform based in Los Angeles, is partnering with Hollywood producer Barry Josephson to identify short stories fit for film and television adaptation.
The competition, open now and running through June 14, seeks commercial-leaning work and carries a cash prize of $7,000. The top three stories will be published on Roadmap Writers.
Short stories have become coveted in the rights market, especially over the past year, and have led to bidding wars among the major studios and streamers. Author Victor Sweetser sold the innovative haunted house film “The Occupant” to New Line this year, and Matt Query got a 7-figure deal at Netflix for his Reddit short story “My Wife and I Bought a Ranch.”

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn‘s relationship is in the news again ahead of the release of the singer’s new album The Tortured Poets Department.
Like any other accomplished songwriter and artist, Taylor pulls inspiration from her personal life sometimes. That’s particularly the case when she’s in love.
So it shouldn’t be surprising that she’s sung quite a bit about the former couple’s relationship.
The 34-year-old “Enchanted” singer started dating the 33-year-old actor in 2016 – before the release of her album Reputation. They were an item for over six years before splitting up in April 2023.
In the time they were together, Taylor released five albums. Many of them contain love songs that Swifties believe document her relationship with Joe. Some of them were even written alongside her partner.
While teasing the new album earlier this month, Taylor created five playlists of her music for Apple Music.

Sharon Stone surprised fans in January when she revealed on Instagram that she tried and failed to pitch a “Barbie” movie in the 1990s, decades before Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie would make their own adaptation to the tune of $1.4 billion worldwide (the highest-grossing film of 2023) and eight Academy Award nominations. Stone said she got “laughed out of the studio” back then. She recently dropped some new info about her axed “Barbie” movie while visiting Dana Carvey and David Spade’s “Fly On The Wall” podcast.
“I went to the studio to try and make Barbie in the 1990s with a producer, a friend of mine, and I had the then-ceo of Mattel on my side. We got thrown out of the studio,” Stone recalled. “They were like, ‘Why would you take this American icon and try to destroy it? What is wrong with you?’ I got a lecture and an escort to the door.

Even though The Notebook opened in theaters in 2004 and is nearly 20 years old, Noah and Allie’s touching and heartbreaking love story still tugs at our heartstrings. The film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel evoked a range of emotions, including a complex love triangle, and, of course, intense feelings for Ryan Gosling. Helmed by Nick Cassavetes, the film’s remarkable cast and poignant narrative seem to be contributing to its increasing popularity over time. However, James Marsden, a significant actor in the film, was initially skeptical of its chances of succeeding.
James Marsden in The Notebook
Though he is best known for his work on X-Men, Enchanted, and Superman Returns, many fans will still know him as Lon Hammond from Gosling and Rachel McAdams’ The Notebook.
Marsden acknowledged in a previous interview that he had doubts about this 117.8 million flick. Little did he know that it would go on to become a beloved romantic classic,...

If there was a poll to decide who the biggest pop star in the world currently is, majority of the votes would undoubtedly go to Taylor Swift. The singer’s cult fan following and immense influence over the younger generation has made her a pop culture phenomenon. In addition, Swift’s romance with Travis Kelce has ensured that there has been a meteoric rise in the popularity and financial growth of football.

You wanna get nuts? C’mon, let’s get nuts. Through no fault of his own, Michael Keaton’s fun, nostalgic return as Batman had imploded when The Flash would debut to disaster and his follow-up in Batgirl would equally become infamous by getting shelved and locked away. Keaton is bouncing back in a big way with his second directorial effort, Knox Goes Away. Keaton’s directorial debut came in 2008 with the crime thriller, The Merry Gentleman. The trailer for Knox Goes Away has dropped courtesy of Saban Films and features a quote from our own Chris Bumbray, which was also featured on the poster, which says Keaton gives “A career-best performance.”
Knox Goes Away revolves around a contract killer who, after being diagnosed with a fast-moving form of dementia, is presented with the opportunity to redeem himself by saving the life of his estranged adult son. But to do so,...

The near-constant rotation of villains in the seven seasons of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" provided ample opportunity for guest stars, and some of these roles went to some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Sitcom star John Ritter is a killer robot in the season 2 episode "Ted," Kal Penn of "Harold & Kumar" plays the victim of a cursed beer in season 4, and "Enchanted" star Amy Adams is featured as Tara's estranged cousin in an episode of season 5. But even in that star-studded milieu, some of the most unforgettable performances in the series were given by breakout actors and indie darlings, like SAG Award-winning multihyphenate Clea DuVall.
You might have forgotten that DuVall made an appearance in "Buffy" — in fact, the actor's character didn't appear very much on-screen at all. In "Out of Sight, Out of Mind," DuVall plays Sunnydale High School student Marcie Ross, a girl who is so shy she turns invisible,...

Sharon Stone has revealed that she once attempted to pitch a “Barbie” movie to a Hollywood studio during the 1990s and was laughed out of the room. It's been nearly 60 years since Julie Andrews first sang about how the hills of Austria were alive with the sound of music, but "The Sound of Music" remains a beloved cinematic treasure. The very idea of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston collaborating is breathtaking. Carey discussed what it was like getting to know Houston while they worked on the movie The Prince of Egypt. She also revealed that something about the creative process irked her.
Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston did a song by a Broadway titan for ‘The Prince of Egypt’

Anne Hathaway appeared on the latest “Happy Sad Confused” podcast and called it “lucky” that her iteration of the “Barbie” movie never got off the ground considering the phenomenon that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” became over the summer. Back in July 2017, Hathaway was announced as the star of Sony’s “Barbie” movie. Comedian Amy Schumer was originally cast, but Hathaway took over the role after Schumer departed.
Hathaway’s “Barbie” was supposed to come out in June 2018. Australian filmmaker Alethea Jones, best known for helming the comedy “Fun Mom Dinner,” was in talks to direct the film, which sources described as in the vein of “Splash,” “Enchanted” and “Big.” Schumer did a polish on the script, which followed Barbie as she get kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and lands in a real-world adventure. The “Dancing with the Stars” Season 32 finale is the show’s biggest one yet. Not only are five couples vying for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy for the first time, but the episode will be three hours long. That’s a whole “Oppenheimer,” but just shy of a full “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
The five couples will perform two routines on Tuesday: a redemption dance and the always anticipated freestyle. Jason Mraz will perform three times as he’ll also croon his tune (and Week 1 song) “I Feel Like Dancing” while the tour pros hit the hardwood in a routine choreographed by Mandy Moore.
To fill out the 180 minutes, the finale will also feature all Season 32 couples performing to “Young Hearts Run Free” by Candi Staton and a holiday routine set to Mariah Carey‘s “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” featuring the song and dance styles of Alfonso Ribeiro,...

Like any other accomplished songwriter and artist, Taylor Swift pulls inspiration from her personal life sometimes. That’s particularly the case when she’s in love.
So it shouldn’t be surprising that she’s sung quite a bit about her relationship with ex Joe Alwyn.
The 33-year-old “Enchanted” singer started dating the 32-year-old actor in 2016 – before the release of her album Reputation. They were an item for over six years before splitting up in April 2023.
In the time they were together, Taylor released five albums. Many of them contain love songs that Swifties believe document her relationship with Joe. Some of them were even written alongside her partner.
We pulled together all of those songs to document their relationship in music from start to finish.
One of those songs was even added to streaming recently.

By 2013, Idina Menzel had long established herself as a formidable Broadway star, having starred in the original productions of Rent and Wicked. She’d had some small-screen success with a recurring role on Glee, and she’d gotten some big-screen experience with the Rent film and Enchanted. But none of those vehicles propelled her career into the stratosphere like voicing the character of Elsa in the animated film Frozen. The Frozen song Let It Go became her signature song — not to mention a Top 5 pop hit. Of course, Menzel also returned to voice Elsa in Frozen II and is expected to return for the two upcoming Frozen sequels, as well. We’ve spoken to Menzel many times over the years, and she told us she’s extremely thankful to Disney for giving her the opportunity to do Frozen. Patrick Dempsey finally gets to use his real accent in 'Thanksgiving'.The 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Enchanted' star plays Sheriff Eric Newlon in Eli Roth's new holiday horror as he investigates a series of gruesome murders in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and it marks the first time he's ever been able to speak in his actual voice on screen.Filmmaker Roth told MovieWeb: "Boston guys, we love the accent. And even if you don't have it, you still love it, or you grew up with it."Certain kids had it like wicked hardcore, other kids less so. And when Patrick Dempsey reached out to me about being in the film, he said, 'Should I do a New England accent?'"I was like, 'Well, one of my pet peeves, I hate movies where someone tries to do a Boston accent and fails, it ruins the movie for me.

Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered Wednesday night to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap has the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.
After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the experience in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.
The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico.

'Eras Tour' Movie Set List: Surprise Songs Revealed, Multiple Songs Missing From Taylor Swift's Film
Taylor Swift is bringing her Eras Tour to movie theaters around the world and the set list is actually a bit different than what fans saw during the live show.
The 33-year-old singer has been performing for more than three hours throughout the tour, with some shows reaching 3.5 hours or more. The movie clocks in at just around two hours and 48 minutes, so some content had to be cut.
Taylor‘s speeches in between songs have been cut down by a little bit and the transition visuals in between eras are almost non-existent, but the biggest change is the missing songs.
So, what’s the set list for the movie?
Keep reading to find out more…
Lover Era
1. Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince
2. Cruel Summer
3. The Man
4. You Need to Calm Down
5. Lover
(“The Archer” has been cut from this era)
Fearless Era

Henry Cavill worked alongside Amy Adams for the first time in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Although she enjoyed her time with the actor, she wondered if Cavill might’ve been a bit too nice on set.
Henry Cavill took Amy Adams’ feet off the ground with their chemistry
After a few close-calls of being Lois Lane, Adams finally found the opportunity to play the character in Man of Steel. Filmmaker Zack Snyder and his wife, producer Deborah Snyder, simply brought Adams on board because they felt she had all the tools needed to bring the role to life.
“Amy is an amazing actor. With all the casting we tried to get the best actors we could, because it just gives it credibility. In so many ways we didn’t look at it as a genre superhero movie — we looked at it as a great story that we were telling,...

Timothy Spall is ready to bring “Joy to the World.”

It’s an unusual robbery, however, taking place during a “Santa Dash.”

If there's one thing to be said for the Disney Studios Showcase at Destination D23 this year, it's that it gave those of us on the weekend news shift a nice quiet start to Sunday.
First, to give some perspective, here's a quick recap of the headlines from last year's D23 Expo. The 2022 event featured the announcement of two new Pixar movies and Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Wish," the first footage from "Elemental," the first footage from the live-action "Little Mermaid" remake, Rachel Zegler presenting the first teaser for "Snow White," Jude Law presenting a first look at Disney's "Peter Pan & Wendy," and the entire original cast of "Enchanted" showing up to introduce the trailer for "Disenchanted." We all know that Adam Sandler likes working with people he knows. The movies he produces with his production company Happy Madison regularly feature Kevin Nealon, Rob Schneider, and other cast members from his Saturday Night Live days. Many of his movies also feature supporting turns from guys you only see in Happy Madison flicks, like Alan Covert and Peter Dante. And, of course, he loves to cast Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore as his love interests.
So it’s no surprise that Sandler’s latest Netflix movie You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzah sees him once again paired with Idina Menzel, who played his wife in Uncut Gems. But Sandler isn’t the star of You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, a comedy based on the 2005 YA novel by Fiona Rosenbloom. Does James Marsden's agent have something against him? For the majority of his career, Marsden has played characters that are the equivalent of tapioca pudding. He was the nice guy who Rachel McAdams dumps for Ryan Gosling in "The Notebook." Then he was the nice guy Lois Lane hooked up with while Superman was away in "Superman Returns." More recently, he's played Sonic's adopted dad in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" films, a fellow whose personality consists solely of being nice and panicking whenever Sonic gets into trouble. Heck, Marsden's android character in the titular park on "Westworld," Teddy, literally has no identity outside of being the nice guy boyfriend for Evan Rachel Wood's Dolores. He's essentially the Ken to her Barbie (and that's Tedough).
The trouble arguably started with Marsden's breakout turn as Scott Summers/Cyclops in "X-Men." Despite being a prominent member of Professor Xavier's superhero team in Marvel's comic books,...
