When Sophia Di Martino entered the Marvel Universe through Loki, it was no surprise that she would become a fan favorite. The emerald green wearing Loki variant won the hearts of many(including the god of mischief himself). As such, it’s easy to see why. She plays the quippy emerald green wearing Loki variant perfectly. However, the 37-year-old actress has a long filmography reel under her belt. Long before entering the Marvel Universe, she already staged plays at home for her family. As her love for films grew, she saw herself book several TV appearances such as BBC’s Ideal. Having cemented

“Am I normal? Am I interested in the right things? Do I do them the normal way?” Many people will ask these questions as they discover their sexuality, and in 2020 they are more likely than ever to find reassuring voices. Eighty years ago, however ,American biologist Alfred Kinsey (Liam Neeson) would have answered with simply, “I don’t know”. He could have speculated, but Kinsey was a man of science. He could not conclusively answer such questions because American society knew very little beyond the social norm of “man plus woman equals baby”.
Kinsey sought to change this societal ignorance with his 1948 book Sexual Behavior in the American Male, which was constructed using detailed, face-to-face interviews with over 5000 men across the United States. Sexual Behavior in the Human Female followed five years later, which applied a similar methodology to a sample of some 6000 women. But this is not where Kinsey,...

A big hit at Horror Channel FrightFest, we chat to Danny Morgan about the upcoming horror, Double Date...
London-born actor/writer Danny Morgan (Off The Hook, Ideal, On The Road) had a very good reason for turning to the horror genre when it came to writing his first screenplay. “I thought that was a genre I could do something in, because there are so many crap horror films. I thought ‘well, it’s not going to stand out horribly if it’s completely terrible’. So I went into it with a good frame of mind!”
It’s a characteristically self-deprecating remark from Morgan who, along with director Benjamin Barfoot, can rest assured that Double Date is one of the funniest and most entertaining British horror comedies of recent years. Following screenings at Karlovy Vary and Edinburgh, it brought the house down at this year’s London’s Horror Channel FrightFest,...

It’s hard not to like and admire a low-budget British genre flick when it’s written by a young English actor and directed by his friend, even if the writer has given himself the lead role. In this instance, it’s a rather brave move, as screenwriter Danny Morgan, probably best known for regular appearances in the Johnny Vegas vehicle Ideal, has cast himself as Jim, a nerdy virgin about to hit 30. It’s a successful collaboration with Benjamin Barfoot too, a visually impressive director with a distinctive vision for the project at hand.
Online dating hasn’t helped Jim’s sexual cause, and his chat-up technique is non-existent, so his best mate Alex (Michael Socha) decides he’s to be responsible for getting Jim’s cherry well and truly popped before his birthday is up. Unfortunately for the pair of them, they’re about to...

A mainstay of both Cinema Scope and Reverse Shot (not to mention plenty of other publications), Adam Nayman is one of our sharpest film critics. This is evidenced in his previous book, It Doesn’t Suck, a thorough defense of Paul Verhoeven’s Showgirls that only solidified the film maudit as something of a modern classic. He’s now turned his attention to another divisive figure with Ben Wheatley: Confusion and Carnage. While Nayman has shown in much of his writing a skepticism towards the lionization of certain genre directors in Internet circles, he makes a compelling case for the still yet-to-quite-breakthrough Wheatley as a wholly intelligent filmmaker whose ideas transcend Tumblr screencaps. He sat down with us to discuss his new book, Wheatley, and other issues within film culture.

Johnny Vegas has described Channel 4 as "self-conscious", adding that he now finds it "incredibly frustrating" taking ideas to TV channels.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Vegas explained that he can feel "quite despondent" pitching new programmes.
"It does get soul-destroying trying to pitch what you think is a wonderful idea when it doesn't fit with anybody's remit," he said.
"I find it incredibly frustrating taking ideas in, that a lot of the time you go in with something original and [there's a] fear of doing something original, because there's nothing to compare it to.
"And if there's nothing to compare it to, they can't justify commissioning it, because it's career suicide to commission something original."
Vegas continued: "Channel 4 can be at times really sort of, 'But is it Channel 4?', and you go, 'What is Channel 4?'.

Confirming recently circulating rumors, the BBC announced today that Nick Frost will guest-star in this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special.
Nick comments: “I’m so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the Doctor Who Christmas special, I’m such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream “No spoilers!” Every day on set I’ve had to silence my internal fan boy squeals!”
Nick’s frequent partner in crime Simon Pegg appeared in the Eccleston adventure The Long Game as the Editor of Satellite Five, and servant of the Mighty Jagrafess of the Editor-in-Chief, the Holy Hadrojassic Maxarodenfoe (And yes, I used cut and paste, there’s none of us perfect). While the frequently working Wheatley announced this would be his next film, it seems that filming was supposed to begin in late 2013 or early 2014. Knowing how rapidly he is able to complete his projects, we wouldn’t be surprised if this is ready for the fall, right after his version of the series “Ideal” starring Johnny Vegas has been completed. Whatever the scenario, this sounds like a return to more outlandish Wheatley territory after this year’s departure in experimental hallucinations with the inventive A Field In England.
Gist: An American sci-fi film, like “Hill Street Blues” with monsters and women cops.
Release Date: Wheatley is a festival darling, so if it’s ready by the latter end of the year, expect a possible out of competition slot somewhere.

Following its release in the UK last summer, Ben Wheatley’s A Field in England is finally about to get its stateside release at the start of next month.
Drafthouse Films is also launching a simultaneous theatrical and VOD release, taking a similar direction to the unique multi-platform release we saw here last year.
With its Us release right around the corner, Drafthouse has released a new trailer teasing just some of the chaos that ensues in Wheatley’s latest, along with an appropriately psychedelic poster designed by Jay Shaw to match. And in case you needed any more persuading, Martin Scorsese himself is quoted as a fan of the film.

The far out British director is following Sightseers with a micro-budget psychedelic civil war-era head trip. But don't rule him out of having a crack at Spider-Man one day
For its American release in May, the poster for Ben Wheatley's last film – the brutal caravan odyssey Sightseers – acquired a few extra elements. The UK version featured the Lake District's Bonnie and Clyde standing in a field. The Us poster added an axe. And some blood. And a corpse. And a caravan on fire. Just to be sure you got the message.
Wheatley's films themselves are a little more subtle, but the fact remains they tend to involve people doing horrid things to each other, the violence laced with extremely uncomfortable comedy. Sightseers was preceded by the nasty-funny Down Terrace and gripping hitman horror Kill List. Although Wheatley's uniquely effective style is often pegged as being typically English, he's attracted...

To anyone who thinks that the film industry isn’t looking at new ways of reaching their audiences – and, really, you’d need to overlook everything that the likes of Netflix, Amazon, and Kickstarter have been working on recently – let Ben Wheatley’s A Field in England be the persuading force to change your mind.
Wheatley’s anticipated follow-up to last year’s acclaimed Sightseers has long been a film we’ve been really looking forward to seeing. We’ve been curious as to when exactly we’d be seeing it this year. And now the official press release has revealed that the film will be the first ever movie in the UK to be released on the same day in cinemas, on television, on DVD, and on Video On Demand.
Amazing.
The Film4 co-production will be released into cinemas through Picturehouse Entertainment, the distribution arm of Picturehouse Cinemas, on 5th July.

Jamie and Laura are back, and now they’ve got the baby in tow. The second season opens with our non-couple in the thick of parenting, and few ideas about how to cope. They can’t even pick a name, and time’s running out, because everyone is involved in planning the Christening.
Pramface delivered a lot of laughs in the first season, and the truly ensemble show doesn’t let up for the second. A wonderfully clever series that makes great use of its entire cast, Pramface is a fast-paced vehicle that manages to explore not only the teenagers, but their parents as well, and strips away the varnish to show off how people really are. Well, sort of.

Oh, you think your schedule is busy? Well, Ben Wheatley is here to let you know how lazy you really are. Not only has he dropped three features in the past three years -- "Down Terrace," "Kill List" and "Sightseers" -- with another one coming in 2013 ("A Field In England"), he also helmed episodes of the Brit show "Ideal," and contributed a short to "The ABCs Of Death." And oh yeah, he's got a handful of projects in the cooker too, with "Freakshift," "I, Macrobane," "Two For Hell" and the animated "Mega Evil Motherfuckers" all developing. So you might not think he'd have time to make an American sojourn. You would be wrong. The filmmaker is teaming with HBO for the thriller series "Silk Road," which he will write, executive produce and direct. And that's not all. The producing team on this one is insane, with Laeta Kalogridis ("Avatar," "Shutter Island...

Part of the Tony Scott: A Moving Target critical project. Go here for the project's description, index and links to project's other movement.
To the overabundance of text, sounds, images—and moving images—in Tony Scott, we reply with something like our own. So let me (try to) keep this (almost as) short as a Tony Scott shot. Scott’s death this past summer would elicit film critics’ own counterpart to American politics: opinions and generalizations bandied between two camps who were, as always, preaching to their respective choirs. And needless to say, such discourses would be about as useful, informative, and interesting as American politics. For Scott’s work was hardly encamped: the outward liberalism of Enemy of the State, perhaps Hollywood’s most overt attack on our surveillance nation and the Nsa, possible only before 9/11, concludes that only Nsa aspirants can take down the Nsa, just as Man on Fire,...

Following on the back of his success last year with Kill List, Ben Wheatley returns behind the camera to release Sightseers in the UK at the end of the month. Showing no signs of slowing down, the promising young writer-director has already finished up shooting his next film, A Field in England.
The 17th Century-set psychedelic horror was originally set to shoot early next year, but since the announcement came in September, Wheatley has already finished filming, and is now in editing, and Film4 have given us our first image from the film.

Ben Wheatley is a busy guy. Even as we chatted with him at Tiff about "Sightseers," he was already in pre-production on his next movie, "A Field In England," which again finds him shifting gears in fascinating ways. A period movie that will be both in black and white and color, and a production that will find him building his own camera lenses from scratch, we can only imagine the final result will be a bit more trippy than this first image. According to this blog post from Film4, it seems production has already wrapped on the film, which stars Michael Smiley ("Kill List"), Peter Ferdinando ("Tony"), Reece Shearsmith ("The League of Gentlemen"), Julian Barratt ("The Mighty Boosh"), Richard Glover ("Sightseers") and Ryan Pope ("Ideal"). Here's the synopsis: The film follows a small group of deserters fleeing from a raging battle through an overgrown field. As they are captured by.

If you’re familiar with Ben Wheatley‘s Kill List already, you’ve probably developed a strange and terrifying phobia of tunnels. If you aren’t, you owe yourself a screening of the modern horror classic. You didn’t much like tunnels anyway, did you?
Wheatley is a British director, of course, which basically means that his movies don’t cost as much as American ones. He made his name with Kill List back in 2011, and then followed it up with the strange caravan comedy Sightseers, which is just as bizarre as it sounds. So what’s next for the man who refuses to stick to a single genre and is just, like, making whatever the bloody heck he wants?

The cancelled Johnny Vegas-led dark BBC3 sitcom "Ideal" is becoming a feature film thanks to its producer Baby Cow reports Chortle.
The UK show ran for seven series and 53 episodes from 2005 to last year with the action set mostly in the flat of a small-time Manchester drug dealer named Moz (Vegas).
Moz is visited by an eclectic array of characters, usually played by various comedians and the odd recognisable actor, who buy cannabis and converse with him.

The BBC’s television channel aimed squarely at 16-34 year olds, BBC Three, is sadly probably better known in the U.K. for its shoddy sitcoms than it is for quality broadcasts. Crude, unsophisticated, and just plain not funny, the channel’s early programming was typified by the awful and long-lived “Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.” That’s not to say the channel’s entire comedy output since its 2003 launch has been awful – “Little Britain,” “Being Human” and “Gavin & Stacey” in particular have experienced a great deal of success . One of BBC Three’s strangest and most interesting shows though was a dark comedy called “Ideal” which ran for seven seasons between 2005 and 2011.
The show was about a small-time cannabis dealer from Salford called Moz (played by comedian Johnny Vegas). The show took place almost entirely in Moz’s bedsit and saw a variety of bizarre...

Previously only an unsourced rumor, this time around, the news about Kristen Stewart-Cali comes from Variety’s Jeff Sneider, who describes Cali as a "gritty action pic" set in Los Angeles. Diliberti’s screenplay tells the story of a young San Fernando Valley couple, Mya (Stewart) and Chris, who enjoy living dangerously. Kirsten Dunst/Camille On the Road poster If this isn't an all-out smile, I don't know what is. Those sparkling white teeth and healthy-looking gums belong to Kirsten Dunst. What a world! What a life! What a dentist!. I'm assuming Dunst's is the last On the Road "character" poster we're adding, as every major On the Road character has already gotten his/her poster. Dunst's actually came out before the ones for the film's three leads, Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, and Kristen Stewart. We're just late posting it. In On the Road, Dunst plays Camille, the wife of Dean Moriarty (Hedlund), who leaves her behind to go on the road with the much younger Marylou (Stewart). Camille is based on Carolyn Cassady, the first wife of the sexually adventurous Neal Cassady (Moriarty in the novel/film).
