Contrary to what you might think based on the plethora of Christmas films and TV series that flooded the streaming landscape recently, we're only now heading into the final month of 2023 and the winter holiday bonanza that comes with them. For Netflix, in particular, December is a time when it pulls out the big guns, tempting its subscribers with an eclectic blend of prestige television, awards season contenders, and crowd-pleasers. This year, that includes the end of the royal drama with "The Crown" season 6, part 2, Bradley Cooper going for the gold (again) with his Leonard Bernstein biopic "Maestro," and whatever the hell Zack Snyder has cooked up for us with the first half of his two-part "Star Wars"-inspired cosmic epic, "Rebel Moon -- Part One: A Child of Fire."
However, in lieu of focusing on the releases that are positioned to soak up the bulk of everyone's attention, I...

Bobby Caldwell, the soulful singer-songwriter who scored a top 10 hit with “What You Won’t Do for Love” and wrote “The Next Time I Fall,” a No. 1 hit for Amy Grant and Peter Cetera, died today at his home in New York City after a long illness. He was 71.
His wife, Mary Caldwell, announced the news on social media, saying: “I held him tight in my arms as he left us. I am forever heartbroken. Thanks to all of you for your many prayers over the years.” She added that his health had deteriorated for more than six years since suffering an allergic reaction to an antibiotic.
Bornon August 15, 1951, in Manhattan and raised in Miami, Caldwell’s parents were singers who hosted a musical/variety TV Show called Suppertime. He was a multi-instrumentalist whose teenage band gigged in Las Vegas before he relocated to Los Angeles, where he became a...

Exclusive: Discovery+ has ordered Curse of the Chippendales, a new four-part true-crime series that revolves around the dark side of the 1980s all-male striptease dance troupe, from Lightbox, the production outfit run by Oscar and Emmy-winning filmmakers Simon and Jonathan Chinn.
Per Discovery+’s description: “The Chippendales achieved a coveted and rare goal: becoming an iconic, household name around the world. Their trademark style of barely-there costumes briefly sported by perfectly-chiseled men would be forever recognized, often emulated, and famously parodied. Their brand became a multi-million-dollar global venture, successful beyond their wildest dreams. But of three unlikely dreamers who were there at the beginning, only one would make it out alive.”
With exclusive access to a cast of characters including Michael Rapp (“The Perfect Man”), original line-up dancers, owner Bruce Nahin, the club’s lawyer and key investigators, Curse of the Chippendales tells the story of how a new kind...

Do not adjust your WiFi settings. No, you are not experiencing a severe case of Deja Streaming-vu. HBO Max’s list of new releases for May 2021 are indeed highlighted by two very recent WarnerMedia hits.
For starters, Tenet finally makes its long-awaited HBO Max this month. Mark your calendars as May 1 is the day that you can finally watch Christopher Nolan’s latest cerebral thriller. Of course, Tenet already had its theatrical release, but obviously that was not really an option for many of us. In addition to Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984 makes its triumphant return to HBO Max this month on May 13. The Wonder Woman sequel already premiered on HBO Max this past December, now it’s getting a second run on the streamer.
In terms of newer originals, May is relatively light for HBO Max. The Jean Smart-starring comedy Hacks premieres on May 13. The latest Adventure Time...

Wyatt Oleff, Kevin Pollak and Janeane Garofalo will star in Mark Rosman’s “In My Life.”
As the film’s title suggests, the comedy/drama is inspired by the music of the Beatles. It follows Evan, a 16-year-old John Lennon wannabe, who is thrilled when the Beatles move in next door to his Beverly Hills home before playing the Hollywood Bowl in 1965. He is desperate to meet his rock idol, while Lennon wants to meet Elvis before the rest of the Beatles do that night. To make it happen, they spend a day together that will forever change their lives. The movie and the places it remembers have a personal connection for Rosman.
“One day in 1965, I found the Beatles were right next door to my house, and this became the launching point for a movie about my youth, my love of music, the 60’s and a very close call...

“Cats” looks like it’ll dominate the Razzie Awards this weekend, but there’s one category where it will probably be mercifully passed over: Worst Actress. The movie musical’s leading lady, newcomer Francesca Hayward, will be spared the ignominy of a win at these kudos. According to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users, Hilary Duff will win for playing the title role in “The Haunting of Sharon Tate” instead.
SEERazzies: Every Worst Picture Winner 1981 to Today
As of this writing Duff gets leading odds of 17/5 for playing the real-life film actress, who was the victim of a horrific murder by the Manson Family in 1969. That shocking crime was also the subject of an Oscar-winning film this year, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” but this take was met with almost universal derision, scoring 8 out of 100 on MetaCritic and 19% freshness on Rotten Tomatoes for what Rt describes as an...

Think that three-carat cushion-cut diamond engagement ring that Matthew Koma just gave Hilary Duff is impressive? That beauty is nothing compared to Hilary's net worth. Ever since she relocated to Hollywood at the tender age of 6 to begin her acting career, the former Disney Channel starlet has been raking in revenue from TV shows, movies, albums, novels, and fashion lines, even earning the 72nd spot on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list in 2007 for making $12 million that year alone. But that was so yesterday - how much is the 31-year-old Younger star worth now? Let's break it down.
After playing several small roles in movies like Playing by Heart, Casper Meets Wendy, and The Soul Collector, Hilary got her big break in 2001 when she was cast as the titular character in Disney Channel's mega hit TV show Lizzie McGuire. The show ran for two seasons and 65 episodes, even inspiring a movie in 2003 that grossed over $55 million worldwide.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
2017 is just getting started, but we’ve already seen an unusually wide variety of hit movies that ranges from corporate behemoths (“Beauty and the Beast”) to culture-shaking phenomenons (“Get Out”). Some of these blockbusters have been safe (it’s hard to imagine that something like “Justice League” won’t make actual buckets of money when it hits later this year), or even cynical (who knew that “Split” could upend the box office so early, and kinda stay there?), while others have pushed the needle forward and inspired the type of fervid conversation that’s usually reserved for television.

There is no doubt that Mrs. Funnybones is the perfect moniker for Twinkle Khanna. Looking radiant in pink, Twinkle was accompanied by her husband and mega Bollywood star, Akshay Kumar on this Sunday’s episode of Koffee with Karan that aired on Star World and Star World HD.
The conversations were candid and unfiltered making this one of the most shocking, hilarious, awkward and romantic episode the show has ever seen. Not one to mince her words, Twinkle turned the tables on Karan as she puts into play her personal camaraderie with him leaving the later shocked and speechless throughout most parts of the show. Akshay’s expressions were priceless and conveyed a thousand words.
For those of you that missed the last episode, worry not because we have the most memorable moments lined up for you.

It's complicated.
That's the biggest takeaway after the chat I had with Sutton Foster and Nico Tortorella at the Atx Festival this summer. Nothing about Liza's life is easy, whether with her friendships or her love live, let alone a simple day at the office.
Find out what they had to offer by way of insight into Sutton's character and what to expect when it comes to revealing Liza's secret.
Liza has her best friend and a really great guy who discovered her secret and supported her entirely. Why doesn't that support help her lean more towards telling the truth?
Nico: She's in a dangerous position.
Sutton: I think she is in a dangerous position. We saw elements in Season 2 where she was willing to lay everything out on the table for her friends, like when Thad threatened to reveal her secret, she was like, I don't care. Go for it.

I never thought I'd say this about a bigscreen adaptation of "50 Shades Of Grey," but it's true: the damn thing's just not trashy enough. The urge is understandable. When Dana Brunetti and Mike De Luca bought the El James book, they knew full well what they were buying, and they knew that the first thing they had to do was approach this as a top-of-the-line A-list production across the board if they wanted anyone to take it seriously. The distance between this and about ten million movies that played on Cinemax at 2:00 in the morning is not that great, and if this is going to be the equivalent of the book as a movie, then it can't just be a modest hit. It needs to be a monster, a phenomenon. It needs to be something that people go see over and over, that people can't stop talking about. Hiring...

You'd think that being happy would be a cornerstone of the Hart of Dixie DNA. I mean, this is a warm, fluffy CW dramedy that takes place in an amiable southern town with romance to spare. However, this season of Hart of Dixie has found several characters lacking direction and trying to figure out what makes them happy. They may be in an environment that seems like the place to go to find your smile again, but that doesn't stop the issues that have come to the surface this season regarding who they are, who they want to be, and how they might go about achieveing the life that they've always wanted to live.

Somewhere in the middle of the 2005 rom-com The Perfect Man, which was the last Hilary Duff film I dared to sit through, I distinctly remember thinking, .They should actually pay this poor girl to stop acting.. As it turns out, that.s what has finally happened. Duff reportedly claimed $100,000 after being dumped from the cast of Tonya S. Holly.s The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, TMZ reports. The actress allegedly was let go because of her recent pregnancy, with husband Mike Comrie. But thanks to her pay-or-play contract, Duff still collected six figures for doing absolutely nothing. And they say our country.s financial industries are broken beyond repair. As Katey suggests in her initial report of Duff.s departure, the .scheduling conflict. created by the actress.s pregnancy seems like an excuse to let her go, as the film has wallowed in development for years and the idea...

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. "The Perfect Man" star Heather Locklear might have found her perfect man. Britain's Daily Express reported that Heather is now engaged to actor boyfriend of three years, Jack Wagner, after he popped the question at her recent birthday bash in late September.
According to the site, Jack proposed to Heather at the 49-year-old actress' favorite Korean restaurant. Although Heather reportedly had previously resisted Jack's proposals, she answered yes to Jack's last request. A friend said as quoted by the site, "Heather never felt the time was right. But now she is ready."
Heather and Jack were recently hit with split rumors which mentioned that the actress wanted to end their relationship in a bid to spend more time with her 12-year-old daughter Ava Elizabeth. A rep for her, however, was quick to deny the swirling reports, insisting that the two "have not split".
Both Heather and Jack haven't released any confirmation about the engagement.

Here's a look back at past weekends comparable to June 18-20, 2010: 5 Years Ago - 2005 Fighting the stigma of the franchise's previous flame-out, Batman Begins had a relatively quieter start than its predecessors, but it was still popular out-of-the-gate. The movie, which was tasked with rebuilding the franchise, pulled in $48.7 million at 3,858 sites over the weekend, tallying $72.9 million since its Wednesday debut. Mr. & Mrs. Smith was second with $26 million, down a standard 48 percent from its opening. The weekend's only other nationwided release was Hilary Duff vehicle The Perfect Man, which was a non-starter with $5.3 million at 2,087 sites. * Weekend Report: 'Batman' Begins in the Shadows 10 Years Ago - 2000 Shaft claimed the top spot with $21.7 million at 2,337 locations, which was a solid but unspectacular showing for the Samuel L. Jackson-headlined remake of the 1971 movie of the same name. In second, Gone in 60 Seconds slowed 41 percent in its second weekend, grossing $14.9 million,...

A few weeks ago, I called Sandra Bullock's rom-com, All About Steve, part of her comeback tour. Boy, did I get that wrong.
What I didn't know at the time was that All About Steve has been collecting shelf dust for two years, because the movie's financial backers didn't know what to do with it. After Bullock's stellar box office showing in The Proposal and Bradley Cooper's surprise success in The Hangover, the good folks who brought us Miss Congeniality 2 decided to go ahead and release Steve.
It came out Friday to the worst Rotten Tomatoes ratings I have ever seen in my life.
It was late afternoon on Friday before it moved past a zero percent approval rating.
Still, Steve brought in over 13 million dollars on opening weekend (though there is no record of how many people demanded their ten bucks back after the movie was over). So,...

"The Perfect Man" starring Heather Lockelear and Hillary Duff isn't the perfect move and it doesn't even have a perfect plot, but it still isn't a bad movie to look at (better then I expected). Heather Locklear is pretty good as a single woman with a young teenage daughter (played by Duff) who moves to New York to start a new life with her daughter and at the same time, hoping to find the "perfect man" for herself and her daughter. Duff, already hating the fact that she had to move is kind of resentful of her finding someone else, but decides to help her mother who is so insistent on finding...

Drew Barrymore is single because she can't find a man who deserves her. The "He's Just Not That Into You" star is only interested in dating her perfect man and refuses to waste her time on unsuitable lovers.
She is quoted as saying: "I believe there are no rules. I think, at a certain point something clicks, and you're just not willing to accept or give less than what your heart desires or less than what you deserve."
Drew - who split from actor Justin Long last July - has previously revealed she won't let her life be ruled by a man.
She said: "My priorities have changed so much. I've been single for months now and I've turned my attention toward my passions, my friends and the causes I believe in. It's been about learning who I am, not through a man, but for myself."...

Britain's Prince Harry would be the "perfect" man to play James Bond, according to Daniel Craig. The actor - who met the prince at the royal premiere of "Quantum of Solace" last month - claims Harry possess all the qualities needed to succeed him as the secret agent.
Daniel said: "I think Prince Harry would make a fantastic James Bond. He's suave and just a little bit dangerous."
"Like Bond, he is unpredictable and would be a perfect Bond. He's got everything it takes."
When the pair met on the red carpet, the prince joked with Daniel about his arm being in a sling after an injury on set.

Toronto -- Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to Lauren Weisberger's chick-lit best-seller "Chasing Harry Winston" for Mandalay Pictures to produce. Andy Tennant is attached to direct the adaptation, which Gina Wendkos will write.
The book, the third novel from the author of "The Devil Wears Prada" and published in May, tells the story of three women in New York -- a daughter of a supermodel, a rising star in the publishing business and a newly single female -- who vow to change their lives for the better in the course of a year.
The movie adaptation will focus and expand upon one of the three story lines.
Mandalay Pictures' Cathy Schulman and Scarlett Lacey brought the project to Universal, where it will be overseen by Kristin Lowe and Maradith Frenkel.
Mandalay is working on Universal's remake of "The Birds" with Platinum Dunes as well as Werner Herzog's "The Piano Tuner.

If The Perfect Man were a sitcom pilot, you could see the possibilities: A desperately single mom with an understanding but exasperated pair of high-energy daughters zeroes in on a new guy each episode as her elder daughter often manipulates events behind the scenes even while coping with homework and boys. But as a movie, the film never quite lives up to its potential.
Many in its core audience of young women and maybe a few lonely single moms will respond to the message of female empowerment and positive self-image. It's a chick flick with a vengeance but even in its most sentimental moments, stars Hilary Duff and Heather Locklear make this feel-good-about-yourself movie feel ... well, good. Boxoffice for this counter programming effort should be at or above average with perhaps greater prospects in home entertainment.
The premise itself is weak. An audience has to buy that Locklear's character, Jean Hamilton, gets dumped by every guy she dates. And whenever this happens, she immediately moves her family to another part of the continent. An opening sequence, which sets up their nomadic lifestyle, takes Jean, a pastry chef, along with her teenage daughter Holly (Duff) and her adolescent sibling Zoe (Aria Wallace) from Wichita, Kan., to Brooklyn. (It's actually Toronto and doesn't much resemble Brooklyn.) Given the spacious apartment she lands, Jean is at least moving up in the world real estate-wise.
On her first day in the new high school, Holly meets Amy (Vanessa Lengies) and Adam (Ben Feldman). Both figure prominently in Holly's improbable scheme to cheer up her mom. Because Jean is only happy when she is dating, Holly decides to invent a mysterious suitor. The guy sends her mom flowers and romantic e-mails but doesn't in fact exist. Well, actually he sort of does because he is a carbon copy of Amy's restaurateur uncle Ben (Chris Noth), who is both handsome and an expert in what women want.
Gina Wendkos' screenplay (based on a story by Michael McQuown, Heather Robinson and Katherine Torpey) dives into sitcom quickly enough, but at least it attempts to explore a few feminine issues along the way. The tack taken is too on-the-money, but the film does demonstrate the pitfalls of arranging one's life to attract the opposite sex.
As mother and daughter, Locklear and Duff bring plenty of vivacity to their roles. Duff conveys the vexation of a teen whose mom flirts far too often with far too many men as well as the genuine love she bears this woman. Locklear can't make you forget she is beautiful, but she does persuade a viewer that this is a woman who sees flaws in herself that no one else does.
Noth and Feldman are able to rise above the blandness of their roles occasionally, and Lengies shows spunk and charm as Holly's best gal pal. Mike O'Malley has a few inspired moments as a well-meaning but Wrong-with-a-capital-W suitor for Mom. Of course, in a different kind of a movie, he might be mistaken for a stalker. Carson Kressley has fun with a gay waiter in Ben's bistro despite rampant gay cliches.
Mark Rosman's direction lacks imagination, veering into the predictability and colorlessness one finds in TV comedies. Similarly, tech credits are routine.

Variety reports that Hilary Duff will reteam with A Cinderella Story director Mark Rosman for The Perfect Man, a comedy about a daughter trying to set her single mom up with the right guy. However, the daughter runs into so many stumbling blocks that she soon makes up a seemingly perfect candidate. In addition to Cinderella, Rosman worked with Duff on her Disney series Lizzie McGuire. Shooting is set to start for Universal in late April... Remember The Fountain, the Darren Aronofsky flick that was derailed when star Brad Pitt left? Hugh Jackman is now eyeing the film, which has been reduced in budget from the $75 million to the $35 million range. Warner Bros. and New Regency will co-produce -- if it gets off the ground this time... Budding director Bill Paxton will helm his second film for Disney, a golf drama called The Greatest Game Ever Played, based on the true story of 1913 US Open, where 20 year-old Francis Ouimet defeated reigning champion Harry Vardon. Shooting is expected to begin this summer.
