The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Ravenous was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Victoria Verduzco, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
1999, a year of hope, a year of high fashion, nooo, no… 1999, the year when people prepared for Y2K, the year of all the odd choices when it came to fashion, and the year of interesting cinematic options. We got The Mummy which gave us all the hot cast members we could ask for and still gives us memes, we got End of Days, Stigmata, Idle Hands, House on Haunted Hill, The Haunting, Stir of Echoes, and The Blair Witch Project. It was a year for surprising hits, shocking failures, and offbeat horror films. So many smaller budgets did so well. Also out in 1999 was this movie about cannibalism in the olden days of the United States,...

Although Nicolas Cage has been known to star in just about any kind of project when attempting to pay off his now-infamous expensive tastes, he has also starred in some great movies that have gotten overlooked. These films include some dramedies of the early 2000s, such as Matchstick Men, The Weather Man and Lord of War. 2005’s Lord of War came from writer and director Andrew Niccol, who had previously penned the Jim Carrey movie The Truman Show and told the story of Yuri Orlov, played by Nicolas Cage, who became a gun runner and quickly rose to become a wealthy and notorious illegal arms dealer of worldwide conflicts.
Variety has revealed that a planned sequel from Niccol is now set to start filming in Morocco locations next March. The sequel’s producer, Karim Debbagh of Kasbah Films, has expressed his zeal to start production now that the writers’ and...

While there is generally some competition between directors — even those in their 80s — it’s still pretty cool when one from that generation praises another. And that’s just what Francis Ford Coppola has for Ridley Scott: endless praise, even saying knighthood just isn’t enough for Scott. This comes fresh off of Scott’s Napoleon posting strong-than-expected numbers over the holiday weekend, even outgrossing Disney’s much-hyped Wish.
Posting on Instagram (something we’ll never quite get used to), Coppola remembered when he first got wind of Ridley Scott and what his subsequent work means. “I first became aware of Ridley Scott with his film The Duellists. I was impressed, and realizing he was my contemporary began following his work, which was prodigious to say the least. One after the other, different styles, themes – all ambitious and never stopping, absolutely great films,” before citing everything from Alien to Black Hawk Down.

Among the myriad reasons we could call the Criterion Channel the single greatest streaming service is its leveling of cinematic snobbery. Where a new World Cinema Project restoration plays, so too does Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. I think about this looking at November’s lineup and being happiest about two new additions: a nine-film Robert Bresson retro including L’argent and The Devil, Probably; and a one-film Hype Williams retro including Belly and only Belly, but bringing as a bonus the direct-to-video Belly 2: Millionaire Boyz Club. Until recently such curation seemed impossible.
November will also feature a 20-film noir series boasting the obvious and the not. Maybe the single tightest collection is “Women of the West,” with Johnny Guitar and The Beguiled and Rancho Notorious and The Furies only half of it. Lynch/Oz, Irradiated, and My Two Voices make streaming premieres; Drylongso gets a Criterion Edition; and joining...

The episode of Revisited covering Drag Me to Hell was Written by Cody Hamman, Narrated and Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Director Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell (watch it Here) isn’t technically one of his Evil Dead movies. There’s no Bruce Campbell, no Necromicon. But it really feels like it’s set in the same world as the Evil Dead franchise. There’s demons, possession, over-the-top fight scenes, disgusting sight gags… and it’s all mixed with a strong dash of humor. Drag Me to Hell may not be as popular as its Evil Dead cousins. But it’s a great horror movie in its own right – and it’s time for it to be Revisited.
After directing three Spider-Man movies in a row, Sam Raimi needed to take a breather. Spider-Man 4 was in development…...

There never has been a movie star quite like Nicolas Cage. While obviously handsome and gifted with backlogs of charisma, beneath the surface there lies an unmistakable hunger, a sense of searching, and what some might even call a mania to take a role to its fullest extreme. Even when Cage is taking the “paycheck” parts, be it in glossy ‘90s Hollywood star vehicles or some of his lesser 2010s straight-to-digital efforts, the actor’s tangible desire to push boundaries and experiment is nothing short of riveting.
In a Reddit Ama, Cage once said the following about his craft: “I think many of the choices I’ve made have been inspired by film stars from the silent era, as well as cultural expression of performance like Kabuki and some of the Golden Age actors like [James] Cagney, so I don’t know how to say I’ve done something new because...

It was back in June of last year that we learned HBO Max had pulled the plug on the Ridley Scott-produced sci-fi series “Raised by Wolves,” cancelling the show after just two seasons. The series was subsequently pulled from HBO Max entirely, with promised plans to license the series (and others) to third-party free ad-supported streaming television (Fast) channels.
Making good on that promise, Bloody Disgusting has learned that “Raised by Wolves” has now found a new home at The Roku Channel, alongside HBO Max’s “Westworld.”

Nicolas Cage won the Oscar for his harrowing performance as a suicidal alcoholic in Mike Figgis’ 1995 “Leaving Las Vegas” and earned another nomination for his dual role in the Spike Jonze/Charlie Kaufman 2002 comedy “Adaptation.” Though he’s worked with such A directors as the Coen brothers “(Raising Arizona”); Norman Jewison (“Moonstruck”’); David Lynch (“Wild at Heart”); Ridley Scott (“Matchstick Men”); John Woo (“Face/Off”); and Martin Scorsese (“Bringing Out the Dead”), Cage has made a lot of bad movie choices in low-budget indies that squandered his unique talents. But the past three years there has been a Cage-aissance thanks to full-tilt boogie turn in the whacked out 2018 revenge thriller “Mandy” and his haunting portrayal of a reclusive truffle hunter in year’s “Pig.”
Written and director by first-time filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, “Pig” finds Cage playing Rob, a former renowned Portland chef who lives in the woods with his beloved pig.

The real-life story about $70 billion in bonds that went missing in downtown Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy is being loosely adapted as a series for Netflix.
Giancarlo Esposito is among the cast in Jigsaw, a heist action drama that the streamer says takes a “nonlinear approach to storytelling in a way where viewers are in control.”
The Breaking Bad Emmy nominee is joined by Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell, Tati Gabrielle, Peter Mark Kendall, Rosaline Elbay, Jai Courtney, Jordan Mendoza and Niousha Noor in the eight-part series.

The Oscar season may not have officially begun, but three talented leading men — Nicolas Cage (“Pig“), Matt Damon (“Stillwater“) and Winston Duke (“Nine Days“) — are all delivering awards-worthy performances in three very unconventional movies. Likely to face an uphill battle on the awards circuit, the right campaign and support from critics could help them gain some traction in the awards game.

There are no real original TV series of note coming this month, which is highly unusual for HBO and HBO Max. In their place, however, are some really impressive film offerings. Major Warner Bros. titles like The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4) and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights (June 11) both arrive this month. So too do some interesting documentaries like Revolutionary Rent on June 15 and Lfg on June 24. The former deals with the staging of the musical Rent in Cuba and the latter follows the U.S. women’s soccer team’s fight for equal pay.

Jeremy Irons is set to join the A-list ensemble of MGM’s Gucci movie that Ridley Scott is directing. Lady Gaga is attached to star as Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci who was tried and convicted of orchestrating his assassination on the steps of his office in 1995. She served 18 years in jail before being let out in 2016.
Irons joins a cast that includes Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney.
It is the first project Lady Gaga has attached herself to since her Best Actress nomination in a breakout turn opposite Bradley Cooper in 2018’s A Star Is Born. She won an Oscar for the song “Shallow,” one of a number of hits on the soundtrack. MGM landed rights to the Gucci package back in April with plans to go into production after Scott finished shooting The Last Duel, which goes back into production next week.

Lucinda Williams isn’t into appointment songwriting. She stays up late, wakes up even later, and writes when the spirit moves her. She also holds on to everything: a possible lyric scribbled on a piece of paper here, a song title in a notebook there. Williams turned 67 in January, moved from L.A. to Nashville, and finally got organized.
“I put them all into files and named each one,” says Williams, calling from her new house in Nashville, which she shares with her husband, collaborator, and manager, Tom Overby. “I...

Stoney Westmoreland, who played the grandfather on the Disney Channel’s Andi Mack before being arrested on federal charges of enticing a 13-year-old boy for sex, will spend the weekend in jail for violating terms of his probation.
“I hope you use this time to understand this is a serious situation that you’re in,” Magistrate Judge Cecilia Romero told Westmoreland. He was taken into custody Friday in Salt Lake City.
Westmoreland, 49, violated two terms of his supervised release. Pretrial officers claiimed they could not access his roommate’s room in their Los Angeles home in October and November. He also missed a September deadline to turn over his digital media.
“The court finds his behavior has implicated safety to the community, because we’re not able to get into that room,” she said. His failure on the digital media showed a “lackadaisicalness” on complying with terms of his parole.

Lady Gaga will star in a movie about the Gucci family fashion dynasty and the murder of the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci.
Ridley Scott is directing the film. Gaga will portray Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci. She had been abandoned after 12 years of marriage by Maurizio Gucci in 1985 for a younger woman. Reggiani was tried and convicted of orchestrating her ex-husband’s assassination on the steps of his office in Italy in 1995. She gained the nickname the Black Widow during the trial and served 18 years before being released from prison in 2016.
The pic follows Gaga’s first movie, “A Star Is Born.” She earned a best actress nomination and won an Oscar for writing the hit song “Shallow” for the film.

Stars: Margaret Qualley, Nick Robinson, Amy Ryan, Brian Cox, Greg Kinnear, Blythe Danner, Mena Massoud | Written by Eric Garcia | Directed by Rowan Athale
Strange But True is directed by Rowan Athale (The Rise) and penned by Eric Garcia (Matchstick Men), based on a novel by John Searles. It’s a dark thriller about a woman who shows up at the home of her deceased boyfriends family and tells them she is pregnant with his child. Trouble is, he’s been dead for five years. It’s a obscure and intriguing concept and with a cast that includes Amy Ryan (The Office), Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine), Brian Cox (Adaptation), Nick Robinson (Love Simon), and Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), I was on board. A nice assembled group of actors and a curious plot is easy to be on board with, after all.

Updated: Stoney Westmoreland, a 48-year-old actor who plays the grandfather on Disney Channel sitcom Andi Mack, has been arrested for allegedly trying to arrange online to have sex with a 13-year-old.
Hours after the arrest, the kids-focused Disney cable network severed ties with the actor.
“Stoney Westmoreland, an actor working on the series Andi Mack, was arrested in Salt Lake City today,” a rep for Disney Channel said in a statement Friday night. “Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week.”
The age of the alleged victim is the same as the central characters on Andi Mack and the young actors who play them. The comedy, created by Terri Minsky, follows 13-year-old Andi Mack and her best friends,...

For a deeply satisfying movie that hinges on a career-defining performance from one of modern cinema’s most fascinating stars, Ridley Scott’s “Matchstick Men” has a strange way of falling through the cracks. Released to a tepid response in September 2003, this slippery tale of a con artist with a guilty conscience was too much of a tweener to find the audience it deserved, and — much like its twitchy protagonist — was also conflicted about swindling people out of their money. For a major Hollywood film that climaxes with a bare-assed Nicolas Cage running around an L.A. parking garage, its “B” Cinemascore is borderline miraculous.
Even now, 15 years to the month since its debut, “Matchstick Men” lurks in the dark recesses of basic cable. Surf a few channels up from the big game on a Sunday afternoon and you’ll often find it playing on a semi-automatic loop, as if...

According to makeup department head Tarra Day, “Godless” is unique in the western genre simply because of its “strong women characters.” Day has a lot of experience with cowboys in the Wild West, having worked on such films as “Appaloosa” (2008) and “The Magnificent Seven” (2016). But in most cases “the women are prostitutes or girlfriends or wives. There hasn’t been a lot of room for female characters to lead the western.” That changed with this Netflix limited series. Watch our exclusive video interview with Day above.

Costume designer Michael Kaplan‘s interest in “The Alienist” stretches back to when Caleb Carr‘s original novel was first published in 1994. “I just loved so many elements of it,” he recalls. “It seemed like a designer’s dream to be able to illuminate everything that was going on in 1896.” Produced by Cary Joji Fukunaga (“True Detective”), this TNT limited series focuses on a newspaper illustrator (Luke Evans) who teams up with a criminal psychologist (Daniel Brühl) and a headstrong NYPD secretary (Dakota Fanning) to investigate a serial killer in 19th century New York City. Kaplan kept a close watch on the project’s development for 24 years before finally landing the job. Watch our exclusive video interview with Kaplan above.

Beyond Jerry Bruckheimer's The Rock and Con Air, here are a handful of Nicolas Cage films worth seeking out.
It’s very easy to get lost with Nicolas Cage. With ‘Cage Rage’ memes, the tales of celebrity eccentricity (remember when he turned on Bath’s Christmas lights?) and the continued fascination surrounding his unmade Superman film, you’d be forgiven for losing sight of the fact that he’s a bona fide, megawatt movie star. On March 9 he’s back with a new role in Brian Taylor’s Mom and Dad, playing a father who violently turns against his own offspring during an outbreak of parental mass hysteria.
In the hands of Crank co-director Taylor we get to see two sides of Cage: the understated everyman and the off-the-scale rage machine. It’s this kind of role, beyond the blockbuster carnage of The Rock and Con Air,...

Netflix has announced the list of films that will be available to stream in July. The list includes new never-before-seen original films, as well as documentaries, comedies, animated titles and some classic movies. Check out some of our favorite new offerings below, along with the complete list of all the new additions.
Read More: Netflix’s Next Big Move? Hacking the Oscars
1. “To the Bone” (available July 14)
Marti Noxon’s feature directorial debut was a hit out of Sundance, where the Lily Collins-starring drama about eating disorders won over audiences for its nimble ability to tell a compelling dramatic story interspersed with well-earned humor. Sketched from Noxon’s own experiences with anorexia and bolstered by a star turn from the always-reliable Collins, the film is both important and entertaining, and it should be able to reach a very wide audience on the streaming platform. Do not miss it.
2. “Punch-Drunk Love” (available July 1)
Paul Thomas Anderson’s lauded 2002 romantic dramedy features Adam Sandler in one of his few “hey, this guy can really act!” roles and includes some of the auteur’s most indelible shots and richest observations about life and love. It’s a modern classic, and now it can be piped right into your home. I’m lookin’ at your Netflix queue and I just wanna smash it. I just wanna fuckin’ smash it with a sledgehammer and squeeze it. It’s so pretty.
3. “Chasing Coral” (available July 14)
Jeff Orlowski won the U.S. Documentary Audience Award at Sundance earlier this year for his newest feature, a stunning documentary about the fight to protect coral reefs from becoming extinct. Featuring breathtaking and distressing underwater footage, the movie puts into perspective just how endangered coral reefs are and tracks the effort to save them.
4. “Lion” (available July 9)
This heart-wrenching true story was an awards season juggernaut earlier this year, featuring stellar turns from Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel. Based on the unbelievable life of young Saroo Brierley, the feature follows his separation from his family and his startling trip back to them many years later, aided by — for real — Google Maps and his own indomitable heart. Bring tissues.
5. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (available July 18)
The very first standalone “Star Wars” spinoff follows a motley crew of rogues, criminals, rebels, and scallawags as they attempt to steal the plans to the monstrous Death Star in a bid to really just totally stick it to the Empire and Darth Vader. Knowing how it ends — they get them! and…some other stuff, too! — doesn’t dilute its tension and creativity, and it features a banger of an ensemble cast. Let this one tide you over before the next entry in the rapidly expanding movie universe.
6. “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” (available July 1)
The early part of the month is heavy on kid-leaning classics, from “Free Willy” to “The Mighty Ducks,” but it’s hard to top the potency of Steven Spielberg’s 1982 classic. Gather the whole family around the TV and get heavy on the Reese’s Pieces, and enjoy one of the best films ever made about childhood, friendship, and letting go.
Here are the rest of the incoming films for this July:
Available July 1
Titanic
Free Willy
Disney’s The Mighty Ducks

Alien: Covenant is the latest example of the very best, and not so great, things about Ridley Scott's directing...
There are very, very light spoilers for Prometheus and Alien: Covenant ahead.
I can’t think of too many more recent well-deserved sci-fi blockbuster hits than The Martian. I really like the film a lot. Expertly directed by one of cinema’s best ever world builders, Ridley Scott, it of course told the story of a man stranded on the red planet, with the simple task of staying alive for, er, a long time before help could be found. Given that the Mars movies we got in the early 2000s were Mission To Mars and Red Planet, I’m happy to call The Martian a substantial upgrade.
I’d also suggest it brought the best out of Ridley Scott.
Scott came to The Martian relatively late in the day.

I envy those true-blue Ridley Scott fans who anticipate each of his features and find auteurist interest in all — Robin Hood a worthy companion to Matchstick Men, Exodus nothing to dismiss, etc. They get a new title practically every year! Just two months before Alien: Covenant, the director’s looking to helm All the Money in the World, a David Scarpa-scripted, true-crime kidnapping drama that has the backing of Sony Pictures.
Oh, and Natalie Portman‘s probably going to be onboard, assuming ongoing negotiations really click into place, reports Deadline. The role, originally an attraction for Angelina Jolie, is Gail Harris, a woman whose son, John Paul Getty III, was kidnapped in 1973 and held for a $17 million ransom. The drama largely centers on her attempts to get the boy’s grandfather, John Paul Getty Sr, to pay the ransom — perhaps easy enough, since he was possibly then the world’s richest man,...

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Anthropoid (Sean Ellis)
Throw a dart at a map, and you can make a World War II movie set in whatever place you hit. Of course, pretty much any film about the Good War that doesn’t focus on the American (sometimes British) point of view of the conflict will probably seem “random” to the mainstream; one odd side-effect of Hollywood’s Oscar-baity love of the era. But there...

99 Homes (Ramin Bahrani)
Ramin Bahrani made a name for himself with three independent films over the last decade, focusing on humanity’s daily struggles, reinvented foreign lives in America, and a fundamental sense of decency. With 2012’s At Any Price and this year’s 99 Homes, Bahrani has twice returned to the festival that launched his career, presenting the evolution of those themes. Not coincidentally, the worst years of the financial crisis stand between his acclaimed Goodbye, Solo and the tepidly received 2012 picture,...

Bridge of Spies (Steven Spielberg)
Tom Hanks has a cold, and he needs to save America. A natural follow-up to Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln in its immersion into nitpicky political discussion, Bridge of Spies also distinguishes itself with a wittier, frequently downright sarcastic screenplay (mostly courtesy, one imagines, of the Coen brothers), more agile camerawork (the ten-minute opening jaunt through Mark Rylance’s Brooklyn morning has been a justified source of attention), and a different kind of lead...
