Oi there, listen up! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for June 2024 includes another season of its biggest, bloodiest hit.
The Boys season 4 premieres its first three episodes on Thursday, June 13. Based on the trailers, The Boys is really leaning into the political side of its social satire with a presidential election underway and Homelander on trial for the small matter of killing a guy last season. The season will continue to air on Thursdays, culminating with the finale on July 18.
Amazon is really leaning into its sports offerings this month as well. Fans will get to watch the New York Yankees, the WNBA, and the Nwsl several times throughout June. That’s in addition to a couple of sports docs: Power of the Dream on June 18 and Federer: Twelve Final Days on June 20.
But if you’re looking for something even more explosive than Homelander and Roger Federer,...

Adam Sandler and Josh Safdie’s follow-up to 2020’s Uncut Gems is still in the works, following several delays and setbacks.
Here’s a project that we’ve been reporting on for years now and whilst this story won’t confirm anything, it’s fresh news that claims that the movie is still alive. The movie in question is Josh Safdie’s untitled baseball film which will star Adam Sandler.
The project is one of interest because it will mark the pair’s next collaboration after 2020’s Uncut Gems, the nail-biting drama that was bought to us courtesy of Netflix and had audiences everywhere shifting uncomfortably in their seats for the majority of its runtime.
Last year’s strikes were the main culprit for this one not happening sooner. The film is said to focus around baseball and as such, needs to shoot during the sport’s season. Last year...

Pixar Animation is all set to release the much-awaited Inside Out 2 in June of this year. Coming nine years after the first film, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the sequel introduces new emotions in the protagonist Riley, who has to deal with a new phase of her life: teenage. Apart from regulars Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith, the sequel sees Maya Hawke and Ayo Edebiri join the cast as new emotions.
Hawke voices the emotion of Anxiety in Inside Out 2, which enters Headquarters when Riley decides to try out for a hockey team. The makers reportedly did a lot of research on what kind of emotions a thirteen-year-old usually begins to have and fixed on a few, including anxiety. The makers also reportedly took inspiration from one Adam Sandler film to treat the visuals for scenes involving Anxiety.

When Adam Sandler made his television debut as Stud Boy and the Trivia Delinquent on MTV's influential game show "Remote Control," he did not exude an all-ages appeal. He was an unassuming goofball: funny, yes, but in a dorky way that augured a career as, at best, a supporting comedic performer. If he played his cards right, he could have Gilbert Gottfried's movie and television career.
Like Gottfried, Sandler became a Not Ready for Prime Time Player on "Saturday Night Live." Unlike Gottfried, he didn't get canned after his first season. By the early 1990s, he was one of the show's breakout stars. He built on his success via a pair of platinum comedy albums ("They're All Gonna Laugh at You" and "What the Hell Happened to Me?"), and proved he could carry a movie with 1995's "Billy Madison." The critics loathed him, but teens and twentysomethings dug his unrepentantly juvenile humor.

Adam Sandler is known for his comedic prowess, but his latest role takes him in a whole new direction. The actor teams up with Carey Mulligan in the sci-fi drama Spaceman, which premiered on Netflix on March 1st.
The film follows an astronaut (Sandler), who grapples with isolation and the state of his marriage during a solo mission on the edge of the solar system.

Adam Sandler is one of the most prolific comedy actors working in Hollywood right now. The actor has his particular brand of comedy, with his gruff voice, loud humor, and the inclusion of Kevin James in many of his films. Though the actor has proved his acting chops in more dramatic roles such as Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, his comedic roles are still classics.
One of his breakthrough comedies was the sports comedy Happy Gilmore. The film follows the story of an ice hockey player who competes in a local golf tournament. The film was a huge commercial hit, putting Sandler on the map as a bonafide comedy star. His co-star Christopher McDonald mentioned that Sandler had shown him a copy of a sequel for the film.

There’s no denying that Adam Sandler is one of the biggest names in comedy. Starting out as a comedian, he quickly achieved Hollywood stardom as he transcended to acting, starring in blockbuster comedy movies like Big Daddy, The Waterboy, and Mr. Deeds. However, like many comedy stars, Sandler wanted to venture out of his comfort zone and prove himself in the dramatic realm as well. Sandler’s foray into drama started with 2002’s Punch-Drunk Love, where he showcased a side to his framework that audiences didn’t know he possessed. After this, dramatic movies came few and far between as he mostly...

Barry Egan is not a particularly easygoing guy. The protagonist of Paul Thomas Anderson's 2002 film "Punch-Drunk Love" is socially awkward, highly anxious, and clearly has trouble regulating his emotions in a healthy way. When he calls a phone sex line, it's because he's lonely and just wants to connect with another person. But as played by Adam Sandler, who was exclusively known for his comedic work until then, Barry becomes someone the audience roots for. Since we have a history with Sandler as someone who has made us laugh, we're perhaps more endeared to this eccentric character than we might've been otherwise.
Anderson knew this -- he was dead set on casting Sandler in "Punch-Drunk Love" from the moment he came up with the concept -- and saw potential in Sandler that no other director had seen at that point. By hiring him to star in this small, bizarre romance,...

Plot: An astronaut realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth.
Desperate to fix things with his wife, he is helped by a mysterious ancient creature he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship.
Review: It should no longer be surprising when Adam Sandler stars in dramatic roles. When Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love was released in 2002, Sandler was best known for films like Big Daddy and Little Nicky. Even though Sandler still releases broad comedies like Hubie Halloween and Murder Mystery, the actor has proven his talents in movies like Uncut Gems and Hustle. Adam Sandler has gone pseudo-serious before, from a mentally agitated toilet plunger salesman in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Punch-Drunk Love” to a depressed comic in Judd Apatow’s “Funny People.” But he’s never been so dour as cosmonaut Jakub Prochazka in Johan Renck’s lonely island of a science-fiction drama, “Spaceman,” where he’s six months into a solitary research mission investigating spectral cloud activity around the planet Jupiter.
Sci-fi cinephiles are certainly familiar with the cinematic wonderments capable of the gas giant, thanks to Stanley Kubrick’s Stargate sequence in “2001: A Space Odyssey,” which sends Keir Dullea on an existential trip into Jupiter’s furthest depths. But Renck’s film, written by Colby Day, is too concerned with the far more banal Earthly dramas Jakub has left behind in the form of his wife Lenka (Carey Mulligan), who is preparing to leave him. “Spaceman” is a miserable...

Therapy is heralded by millions as a way to work through the tangle of our innermost feelings and air grievances without judgement, making it a bountiful foundation for Daniel Sinclair’s tonal mash-up The Breakthrough. Greta Lee and Ben Sinclair play a fractured couple who are the embodiment of an unbalanced modern day relationship, but with Sinclair deftly flipping expected gender roles, placing the male partner in the role of domesticity suffocating his creativity whilst his female counterpart, earning all of the money, continues to come home late from work. The Breakthrough is set over Christmas, a supposed time of time of goodwill and joy but here serves as a shining reminder of the couple’s simmering distaste for one another. The Breakthrough is deviously funny and sharp at every turn and also serves as a pertinent reminder of the benefits of composting. Ahead of the film’s online premiere...

For a time, it seemed like an auteur war was about to break out over Adam Sandler, with some of America’s most revered directors vying to find the right role for the comedian. It was rumored, but never confirmed, that Quentin Tarantino imagined him a key role while writing Inglourious Basterds, although this might have been wishful thinking from critics who saw the talented Sandler heading in the same direction as John Travolta until Pulp Fiction saved him from a lifetime of Look Who’s Talking movies. In the end, Paul Thomas Anderson got there first, with Punch Drunk Love (2002), although the glow of a bona fide arthouse hit didn’t last long, and Jack and Jill still happened less than ten years later.
Nevertheless, though he returned to the fanbase, Sandler has always been good in serious supporting roles, even in films that don’t broadly work, like...

Following his show-stopping performance as Ernest Burkhart for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Leonardo DiCaprio is teaming up with Paul Thomas Anderson for the filmmaker’s next mysterious feature. Cameras took snaps of DiCaprio in Eureka, California, where Anderson’s latest project is in production. Exclusive: A3 Artists Agency has signed Mary Lynn Rajskub, the veteran comedian, actress and writer known for turns in Fox’s hit action drama 24, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love and FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, for representation.
In 24, which ran for nine seasons, Rajskub played the fan-favorite character of Chloe O’Brian, the intelligence analyst who is protagonist Jack Bauer’s (Kiefer Sutherland) most trusted colleague. In Anderson’s classic, she portrayed Elizabeth, one of anxious entrepreneur Barry’s (Adam Sandler) seven domineering sisters, and in It’s Always Sunny, she portrays the hilariously bizarre recurring character Gail the Snail.
Most recently seen in the Fox anthology series Accused and the Tim Story-directed Disney+ comedy Dashing Through The Snow, Rajskub has also had notable parts in recent years in Hulu’s award-winning Amanda Seyfried miniseries The Dropout and the Chris Pratt sci-fi film The Tomorrow War for Amazon.

Adam Sandler heads off into space for Netflix’s cerebral-sounding sci-fi drama, Spaceman. There’s a brand new trailer to watch!
Update 17th January 2024: A new trailer has landed for Spaceman, Chernobyl director Johan Renck’s upcoming sci-fi film. Starring Adam Sandler, it’s coming to Netflix on the 1st March, and following on from the likes of Uncut Gems and Punch-Drunk Love, it looks like a more introspective, thoughtful performance from an actor better known for his broader-than-a-motorway comedies.
Also, Paul Dano provides the voice of a gigantic alien space spider, which turns up in Sandler’s interstellar craft to provide much-needed counselling as he pines after his estranged wife (Carey Mulligan). Sounds fabulous, doesn’t it? The new, full trailer looks fabulous too. And sounds it, thanks to a novel reimagining of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s soon-to-shoot film is set to feature a raft of talent – and is being touted as his ‘most commercial’ project yet.
We’ve known for a while that Paul Thomas Anderson has been planning his follow-up to 2021’s Licorice Pizza, but as is often the case with a PTA film, details remain shrouded in secrecy.
The untitled project has been established at Warner Bros and according to Variety, is set to begin production on 21st January.
Production will take place in California, and although there’s no word yet as to where the film’s story will be situated, we’ve seen Anderson return to the San Fernando Valley throughout his career, most recently with Licorice Pizza.
Despite winning lots of critical acclaim, that film didn’t catch fire at the box office, earning $33m from a reported $40m budget. The film wasn’t headlined with any real star power though,...

When Paul Thomas Anderson went against the industry grain and cast Adam Sandler as the lead in his fourth feature, "Punch Drunk Love," many people in Hollywood felt the brashly talented filmmaker's ego had inflated to Welles-ian proportions. After the dazzling excess of "Magnolia" (which was more divisive at the time than it is now), there was a sense that he was provoking for provocation's sake. Outside of Steven Seagal, it's possible there wasn't a more critically loathed star in America — and it wasn't just the movies they hated. They detested him. Opera Man. Barry Egan. Billy Madison. Happy Gilmore. Dracula. Howard Ratner. Leo the Lizard??
If that last name doesn't sound familiar to you, it might very soon. As you can likely tell from the names preceding it, Adam Sandler has portrayed an impressively large number of memorable characters on-screen throughout his career. Although he's most well-known for his comedies (resulting in his being lauded when he takes on a dramatic project such as "Punch Drunk Love" or "Uncut Gems"), even a cursory glance at Sandler's resumé reveals his impressive range of projects in a variety of genres and mediums.
One of those mediums is animation, as best seen in "Eight Crazy Nights" or his successful "Hotel Transylvania" franchise. This November, Sandler hopes Leo the Lizard will become his newest triumph within the medium, when "Leo" premieres on Netflix. "Leo" isn't a mere voice acting gig for Sandler, either; he's a...

Guillermo del Toro, the acclaimed director of The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Hellboy, has recently expressed his admiration for Punch-Drunk Love, a 2002 romantic comedy film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Adam Sandler. Del Toro tweeted that Punch-Drunk Love was his favorite PTA film and praised the score by Jon Brion, which he said he had been playing “in a loop” for weeks.
Punch-Drunk Love tells the story of Barry Egan, a socially awkward and emotionally unstable man who falls in love with Lena Leonard, a woman who accepts him for who he is. Barry also has to deal with a phone sex scam, a violent encounter with his sisters, and a frequent flyer miles scheme. The film is widely regarded as one of Sandler’s best performances and a departure from his usual comedic roles.

Shabadoo! Adam Sandler has got a new North American tour that is scheduled to launch next month in Vancouver, British Columbia, and wrap up on Dec. 12 in Denver.
The huge 25-city tour has been dubbed “The I Missed You Tour” and will follow his sold-out “Adam Sandler Live” shows from earlier this year. They also promise an as-yet-disclosed special guest.
Ready to see the Sandman Irl?
Sandler, of course, was a “Saturday Night Live” cast member from 1990 to 1995, creating a host of characters that were both whimsical but also a little threatening and gave even the softest scenario some unexpected edge. In the years after “SNL,” he became a huge actor, first starring in some lowbrow comedies like “Billy Madison” and “Happy Gilmore” and then diversifying his portfolio by starring in acclaimed dramas like “Punch-Drunk Love,” “Funny People,” “Uncut Gems” and, most recently, the excellent “Hustle.” He’s also starred...

Like many popular comedic actors of the day, Adam Sandler got his start on “Saturday Night Live” first as a writer and then as a cast member. He was spotted by weekend update anchor Dennis Miller doing stand-up comedy and Miller recommended him for the show. Sandler was a big success on the show, particularly doing song parodies during the Weekend Update segments. Sandler left the show in 1995 after only five years on the program. Years later when Conan O’Brien was having his own problems with NBC, Sandler admitted to O’Brien that he was actually fired from “SNL” and didn’t leave voluntarily as had been assumed.
Sandler started off doing comedy films after that but has evolved into doing dramatic work at times. While he has a pretty strong track record as a box office draw, he has also often been the target of poor reviews from critics...

We all know that Adam Sandler likes working with people he knows. The movies he produces with his production company Happy Madison regularly feature Kevin Nealon, Rob Schneider, and other cast members from his Saturday Night Live days. Many of his movies also feature supporting turns from guys you only see in Happy Madison flicks, like Alan Covert and Peter Dante. And, of course, he loves to cast Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore as his love interests.
So it’s no surprise that Sandler’s latest Netflix movie You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzah sees him once again paired with Idina Menzel, who played his wife in Uncut Gems. But Sandler isn’t the star of You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, a comedy based on the 2005 YA novel by Fiona Rosenbloom. Throughout Adam Sandler's deeply wide-ranging career, the talented actor has delivered some pretty wild performances that have ping-ponged from one extreme to the other. After his run through the '90s and early aughts included hits like "Happy Gilmore," "The Wedding Singer," and especially "Punch-Drunk Love," he more or less lapsed into autopilot mode with several undemanding comedies before roaring back to life with "Sandy Wexler," "The Meyerowitz Stories," and "Uncut Gems." Well, now audiences are about to see Sandler as they never have before: as a lizard.
Netflix's "Leo" might seem like yet another unrefined streaming comedy aimed at the lowest common denominator, but the premise of Sandler voicing an aged class pet who's suffered through countless boring and monotonous school years performing for the amusement of obnoxious kids kind of sounds ... intriguing! When you look at Adam Sandler’s filmography, you might either think outrageous comedy or some seriously impressive dramatic turns in movies like Punch Drunk Love, Uncut Gems and Hustle. But for his latest Netflix flick, he is taking a back seat on camera by basically playing the beleaguered dad to his real-life daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler, all in fictionalized roles but nevertheless all still in the family. Sandler’s real influence in You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is as a producer, and in this instance he has brought forward the right creative elements to make this adaptation of Fiona Rosenbloom’s YA book a complete delight.
It doesn’t break any rules of the teen genre, of the kind of coming-of-age movie that the late great John Hughes pioneered so successfully in the 1980s and ’90s, but it works in a modernized way that...

After years of churning out his tried-and-true brand of juvenile comedies for Netflix, Adam Sandler has started to mix things up a little in his recent collaborations with the streamer. Their "Murder Mystery" films, for example, might not be anything exceptional, but it's fun to see The Sandman getting bitten by the same cozy murder-mystery bug that's been making the rounds of late. His basketball dramedy "Hustle," itself a perfectly likable by-the-numbers underdog sports flick, even served to bridge the gap a little between Sandler's guffawfests and high art offerings.
His latest Netflix original film, "You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah," looks to keep that welcome trend going. Writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson has worked with some of this generation’s most accomplished film actors, including Daniel Day Lewis (twice), Joaquin Phoenix (twice), John C. Reilly (four times) and Philip Seymour Hoffman (five times). Plus there’s occasional drop-ins to his films by such movie stars as Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, Adam Sandler and Tom Cruise. It’s likely that Anderson can attract this caliber of actors because he writes complex characters in all of his films that force an actor to dig deep to find the essence of that character and bring it to life. Scroll through our photos below to see all nine PTA movies ranked from worst to best.

If your first thought after watching Monkey-Love, Please Hold is “What the actual f*ck?”, you’re not alone. Much like an unconventional sexual habit, such as masturbating on an online sex chat wearing a gorilla mask, this offbeat comedy, directed by Greg Fox is not going to be to everyone’s taste. But the 23-minute film, centred around a recently heartbroken, karaoke loving, self-proclaimed pervert who receives a life-changing, fish bearing blow up doll, treads a fine line between moderately obscene and inexplicably heartwarming and the result is distinctly memorable. And whether you’re a fan of the monkey-love (like we are at Dn) or not, the brilliantly constructed lead character (performed equally brilliantly by Dan Mousseau), fat-free editing and masterful direction on display here, are indisputable. We are overjoyed to be premiering Monkey-Love Please Hold, and to have got the chance to chat to Fox about the inspiration behind Ben’s character,...

Paramount Pictures has renewed a first-look deal with Todd Garner. The head of Broken Road Productions first signed a production pact with the studio in 2018.
Their only film since that time for Paramount has been “Playing With Fire,” a family-friendly Paramount Players release about a handful of macho firefighters having to look after two stranded kids amid a wildfire. The Jon Cena-led release earned $69.4 million worldwide on a $29 million budget. The company is in active development on a Rebel Wilson-starring tennis comedy titled “Double Fault.”
Among other recent projects not specifically with Paramount were New Line’s “Mortal Kombat” reboot and the direct-to-Hulu comedy “Vacation Friends,” both of which have spawned in-development sequels. Ganrer’s production track record goes back at least as far as Vin Diesel’s first “xXx” installment in the summer of 2022. ‘Sanctuary’ Trailer: Margaret Qualley Holds Christopher Abbott Hostage in Neon’s Dominatrix Thriller
Margaret Qualley sets out to spank, seduce, and scourge Christopher Abbott in the sexy blackmail drama “Sanctuary.”
Qualley stars as dominatrix Rebecca, whose elite client Hal (Abbott) wants to end their psychosexual relationship after inheriting his late father’s empire. However, Rebecca has other things in mind to punish him. The film takes place over one night in a hotel room.
“Sanctuary” is directed by Zachary Wigon (“The Heart Machine”) from a script by “Homecoming” co-creator Micah Bloomberg. The film debuted at 2022 TIFF and will be released by Neon this spring.
IndieWire critic David Ehrlich praised the film for being “such a salaciously enjoyable slice of snack-sized fun” with an unpredictable plot that toys with what it really means to roleplay.
“‘Sanctuary’ unfolds like a kinky cross between ‘Punch-Drunk Love’ and an off-Broadway play,” Ehrlich wrote. “[It’s] a story about identity and control, but it’s also a movie about the...

How did we get here?” Emily Watson asks, frustratedly. “Where the victims of a horrific crime aren’t believed and the perpetrators are protected?” In her new film God’s Creatures, the Oscar-nominated star of Breaking the Waves and Punch-Drunk Love plays Aileen, a seafood processor in rural Ireland whose son Brian (Normal People’s Paul Mescal) is accused by a local girl of rape. The residents of the small fishing town they live in rally around him. The accuser, on the other hand, is exiled. “This is baked into our institutions and how our society is structured,” Watson continues, forcefully now. “Somehow sexual assault doesn’t matter. Somebody breaks into your house? The police will sort you out in five minutes. If someone rapes your daughter… good luck!”
Watson has been an internationally acclaimed star and one of Britain’s very best actors for more than 25 years, but there’s still something mysterious about her.

Chris Rock is calling out the Academy Awards once again, but this time, it’s for snubbing his longtime pal Adam Sandler.
Rock, who was slapped by Best Actor winner Will Smith during the 2022 Oscars and subsequently turned down hosting this year’s ceremony, slammed the Academy for overlooking Sandler’s robust filmography during the ceremony for the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
“I’ve known this guy for 30 years,” Rock said of Sandler. “The Oscars, you know, they’re fucking assholes. And if they don’t want to give my man his props, we will tonight.”
Rock called his former “SNL” co-star “one of the greatest of all time.”
Sandler was poised to receive a Best Actor Oscar nomination for 2019 film “Uncut Gems.” His acclaimed past work also includes “Punch-Drunk Love,” which “TÁR” writer-director Todd Field recently called one of the best onscreen performances ever. Sandler has never...

Chris Rock may have turned down an invitation to present at the 95th annual Academy Awards earlier this month, but there was no way he was missing this.
On Sunday, he appeared in Washington, D.C. at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to celebrate his old buddy Adam Sandler. The star of “Billy Madison,” “Uncut Gems,” and the forthcoming “Murder Mystery 2” was being fêted as this year’s recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
Rock came out and, upon seeing Paul Pelosi, referenced the bond the two shared—being physically attacked. Whereas the 82-year-old San Francisco businessman (and husband of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi) was nearly killed by a deranged lunatic, Rock was merely whapped across the face by Will Smith.
Anyway, Rock discussed how when he first encountered Sandler he was set up to dislike him. Sandler had...
