good but a bit too long
linga_0415 February 2005
I first leaned about Xu Zhimo when I studied an essay of his about Cambridge when I was a teenager in high school. I never realized that he has such a sad and tumultuous life .This is a very good TV show about the life (love life ,to be exact) of a very great literary genius in China in the 1920s and 1930s. The states of the Chinese society and culture are clearly seen. It also tells the terrible trials and tribulations of Chinese people who were brought up in the old Chinese traditions but were exposed to Western society and ideas. The dialog is great; but only for those who have great appreciation for Chinese and Chinese literature. For other people, this show is a bit too long and can easily cause boredom. This show is, to me, not entertainment but thought-provoking stuff.

Exquisite screenplay
hou26-tw12 October 2019
It is a historical drama based on true stories. Hui-Ling Wang's script is very exquisite. Love words are not only moving but also use the early-20th-century grammers and vocabularies! Therefore, the dialoges became buzzwords in Taiwan after prodcasting, "Huihui, promise me a future!" Besides, it is not a monodrama of the famous poet Xu. Three women, Chang, Lin And Lu, express feelings in their own way. For example, the sad wife Chang said to her negative husband, "You ask freedom to who without freedom? The freedom you want, I can't help." Smart Lin said to her fiance whose foot became lame in a car crash, "The left foot is not the brilliant part of you."

All the sentences like clothes fitting to the characters. All the actors performance naturally just like living in the era. Those factors made the drama classical.
