Mitski recorded a new rendition of “Buffalo Replaced,” off her most recent album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, for Spotify. Like the studio version, the recording features strummed acoustic guitar and Mitski’s delicate lyrics describing an open frontier and the fleeting nature of hope; it’s just a little more raw and up front, and her singing at the end takes centerstage. She also recorded a version of the folk song, “Coyote, My Little Brother,” which Pete Seeger popularized, pushing her voice heavenward in the intro...

Tim McGraw is following up his latest album, Standing Room Only, with a surprise EP, Poet’s Resumé.
The six-track project is anchored by opening number “Runnin’ Out of Love,” a galloping power ballad simultaneously rife with angst and full of romance. “I’ve tried running away and I ran out of road/I’ve run out of push, and I’ve run out of shove,” McGraw sings before launching into the chorus: “But I ain’t runnin’ outta love/It ain’t gonna happen/Never gonna stop/It’s everlastin’.”

Tim McGraw did not like or love it when fans criticized his recent performance. The award-winning country singer may be used to receiving roaring applause from audience members, but over the weekend, he was hit with a few boos during his live show at the Nugget Event Center in Reno, Nevada. On Saturday, Oct. 9, the "Here on Earth" musician confronted concertgoers who heckled him onstage after he missed a beat—or more specifically, when he forgot the lyrics to one of his most popular tunes. According to TMZ, which first broke the news, Tim not only fumbled over the lyrics to "Just to See You Smile," but fans felt he sounded off. After a...

As the year winds down, streaming services appear to be taking a step back, licking their wounds from this strange pandemic production season, and looking to a hopefully brighter future. This is all to say that Hulu‘s list of new releases for December 2020 isn’t quite its most inspiring batch yet…and that’s Ok.
Hulu’s biggest original title this month is undoubtedly The Hardy Boys. This adaptation of the classic boy detective novels is aimed at younger audiences and will premiere on Dec. 4. Then, near the end of the month, Hulu is bringing a new season of a show that is decidedly not for younger audiences. Season 9 of the very funny and very Canadian Letterkenny arrives on Dec. 26.
Hulu also has some recent movies of note coming in December including Amy Seimetz’s diabolical She Dies Tomorrow on Dec. 4 and children’s movie The Secret Garden on Dec.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, as the various streaming services are stocking their libraries with some great new titles this December to keep us going through the festive period. When it comes to Hulu, the Disney-owned platform is adding a few holiday-related movies and TV shows, but is mostly taking the track of stuffing itself full of classic films that the whole family can enjoy.
This includes a bunch of the best James Bond pics ever made, like GoldenEye, The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldfinger and, the one that kicked it all off, Dr. No. That would be a perfect watch to honor Sean Connery, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Other action movies you might want to check out this December, meanwhile, include The Hurt Locker, The Fifth Element, 2003’s Hulk and the two “Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon” flicks, The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons.

The idea for the song evolved out of a backstage conversation while supporting Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul Tour in 2018. McGraw was giving the young performer some encouragement and recalling...

In another shakeup at Univision, Isaac Lee, chief content officer of the Spanish-language giant and its longtime programming supplier and shareholder, Televisa, is leaving the company as of today.
Lee cast the parting as amicable. It follows on the heels of a CEO transition at Univision in June, when broadcast TV veteran Vincent Sadusky took the reins from Randy Falco. The company has been in a restructuring mode and is now looking to sell the English-language digital businesses that Lee championed as acquisitions to diversify Univision’s portfolio.
Lee’s departure closely follows that of Univision entertainment president Lourdes Diaz, who joined Stuart Ford’s Agc Studios television division earlier this month.
Lee told Variety he believed Univision and its Mexican partner Televisa were well-positioned for the future. Televisa executive Patricio Wills will take over Lee’s duties as head of content.

Santiago De Compostela, Spain — Gael García Bernal’s political thriller “Aquí en la tierra” (“Here on Earth”), a searing indictment of Mexico’s ruling elite, has been re-upped for a second season by Fox Networks Group Latin America.

Cannes — Canneseries suggested we are “living in a golden age of global television,” said Harlan Coben, emphasizing the world “global.” Here, extrapolating from its series , are 8 trends in global drama:
1.Women Power
Women are sticking it to men. Sometimes quite literally, as in “Killing Eve,” where Jodie Comer’s Villanelle, a brilliant, if nonchalant, female assassin, finds an original use for a hair-pin and an Italian mobster’s left eye. “Bullets,” from Finland’s Vertigo, which won the sneak-peek MipDrama Buyers Summit Coup de Coeur, forefronts two strong women – an undercover cop, an ex-terrorist – in a series which is both high-octane political thriller and a female friendship drama. “Angelica,” one of the most liked projects at In Development, is set at the last abortion clinic in a conservative U.S. state which becomes a flashpoint for broader divisive social confrontation. Meanwhile, the top Latino content producers pinpoint co-production as a key growth strategy. Telemundo Global Studios aims “to co-produce with companies with a lot of experience,...

“Here on Earth,” a political thriller that is an auteur turn from Gael Garcia Bernal, will bring much needed star power to the Croisette during the international TV Canneseries festival.
Produced by Fox Networks Group Latin America (Fngla) and Mexico’s La Corriente del Golfo, “Here on Earth” is more than just a star vehicle. In industry terms, it’s a high-end scripted drama. In political terms, it skewers Mexico’s ruling elite, turning a spotlight on the horse-trading, influence peddling, luxury, blackmail and murder — ferociously unexpectedly or hauntingly casual — practiced by one of Mexico’s most influential families whose patriarch, Governor Mario Rocha (Daniel Gimenez-Cacho), is preparing to run for president. In artistic terms, it’s one of the most ambitious projects yet from actor-director-producer Garcia Bernal.
Featuring, in figurative terms, fratricide and a father’s betrayal of his son, “Here on Earth” is “epic, near biblical, and highly classic,...

He claimed it is our solace that the "souls of those who passed are now at peace in heaven.” "Here on earth,” Trump continued, “we are blessed to be surrounded" by the "heroes" who saved lives when a…...

Simon needs to get over his crush on Clary. Like right now!
He's been pining after her for two seasons and never made his move. And for the first time in a long while, he ends up on a date with a great woman on Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 7. Maia (played by Alisha Wainwright) is a perfect catch.
I'm not saying it's Clary's fault. She didn't lead him on or toy with him purposely. This is all Simon's doing.
Ever since the first season, it was painfully obvious he loved Clary. Clary, on the other hand, only looked at Simon as her best friend while she chased Jace. None of this is new information – he knows this.
Sure, Clary did look a bit jealous when she found out about Simon's date with Maia. We were teased that Maia would cause tension for this friendship. But that's just it, they're friends and incredibly close.

Here on earth, Paul Feig is responsible for blockbuster comedies like “Bridesmaids” and the cult TV show “Freaks and Geeks.” For his new Yahoo Screen series, however, he’s taking matters out of orbit. “Other Space,” Feig’s streaming comedy set aboard a spaceship in the year 2105, held its premiere screening Tuesday night at West Hollywood’s London Hotel, where TheWrap spoke exclusively with the director about his love of sci-fi, the state of streaming content and his decision to return to the small screen. “I actually should sue Yahoo for stealing my color,” Feig joked when we asked if...

Interstellar is sci-fi that goes heavy on the "fiction," but still has a healthy dose of science—in part because Kip Thorne, a renowned astrophysicist, signed on as the film's scientific advisor. Although this doesn't mean Interstellar is 100 percent accurate, it does mean that it tries to be accurate when it can—and that some parts of the film run the risk of flying right over viewers' heads. Because we're not all experts on wormholes, EW turned to some people who are to help explain what went on in the Interstellar universe: Mark Jackson, founder of Fiat Physica, and Fiona Harrison,...

Alright, alright, alright! Matthew McConaughey earned his first Emmy nomination this year along with Taylor Schilling, Lizzy Caplan and many more. But 2014's crop of honorees is also full of veterans. Many of the performers nominated are already known for bringing one if not multiple classic small-screen characters to life. Julia Louis-Dreyfus alone has graciously given us Elaine Benes, Selina Meyer and Christine Campbell. This left us wondering, what would happen if each 2014 Emmy nominee could only have one memorable character live on in TV history? We struggled through some true TV "Sophie's Choices" to pick the characters we believe pop culture needs to survive.

Star Wars fans have had a lot to digest lately. Star Wars: Episode VII currently filming, we have a release date and director for our first Star Wars stand-alone film (coming in 2016), and this week came the announcement of Josh Trank helming another stand-alone movie. While rumors have persisted on what the upcoming stand-alone films would be about, nothing concrete has been laid out just yet. As such, they’re ripe for speculation and hopes, so I wanted to break down some story ideas I think would be well suited to Lucasfilm’s spin-off Star Wars films.
First of all, I have to say, I’m actually sort of more excited about what the stand-alone films will bring to the Star Wars universe than the Sequel Trilogy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super excited to see Episode VII, but it’s something of a known quantity. Disney is...

We’re told from the very beginning that this is a different kind of cancer story. There will be no Hollywood fluff or gloss here says our narrator and lead character Hazel (Shailene Woodley). Instead, she’s going to tell us the cold, hard truth of what it’s like to be a teenager facing a health-related death sentence. Well, the cold, hard truth as filtered through a slightly less glossy Hollywood lens anyway. Hazel’s childhood cancer has moved into her lungs leaving her a teenager whose constant companions are an oxygen tank on wheels and a pair of tubes up her nose. She spends her days re-reading her favorite book and watching with wistful eyes as young couples in love live their lives around her until a chance meeting with a fellow cancer survivor named Augustus (Ansel Elgort) leads not only to her very own love story, but also to a new appreciation for metaphors...

Los Angeles—On his seventh studio album, "Riser," out today, 11-time Grammy nominee Dierks Bentley finds himself examining the circle of life as he deals with the death of his father followed by the joy of the birth of his third child and first son. Though the album has plenty of upbeat tracks, it's the deeper cuts, like current Top 10 single, "I Hold On," the dark "Bourbon In Kentucky," and "Here on Earth" that stick to your ribs. A 40-minute documentary, "Dierks Bentley: Riser" follows the country star's journey as he makes the album. Bentley screened the doc here Feb. 20 and HitFix spent some time with him afterward. Cmt produced a 30-minute special that features much of the documentary's footage, while a deal for the full documentary to bring it to a TV outlet, such as Netflix or Hulu is being worked on. Bentley filmed an episode of Cmt's "Crossroads" with OneRepublic,...

Nicholas Sparks has a well-deserved reputation as the master of the romantic drama, thanks to films like "The Notebook" and new release "Safe Haven." Last year's movie "The Vow" has everything you would expect from a Nicholas Sparks film: hot actors (Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams), a wife in a coma, lingering amnesia and the joy of love rediscovered. Just one thing -- somehow, amazingly, Sparks didn't actually write it.
Yeah, we're surprised, too. So in honor of "The Vow," we hereby present our list of the Top Five Movies You'd Think Were Written by Nicholas Sparks.
'Letters to Juliet'
Amanda Seyfried stars as a gal who is somehow lonely despite the fact that the hunky Gael García Bernal is her fiancé. She finds purpose -- and true love -- when she helps an older woman (Vanessa Redgrave) track down her own long-lost love through clever detective work random chance.

It goes back to the starfish. That's when the light bulb really popped over my head. We'd found one on the beach and I was struck by what astonishing creatures they are, talking with Dad about how they regenerate. I'd learned in school how severed fragments could grow into new adults and it seemed so utterly removed from the human experience. Lose a limb and it becomes another you? What would that be like? Dad smiled and said, "Nick, you and that starfish come from the same planet. Imagine how different a creature from another planet might be."
Mind blown.
A few years before then, I'd recorded a message for potential extraterrestrial civilizations to discover. Surreal to say, but that sort of thing was normal in my household. Dad was a world-famous astronomer; Mom was the artist who drew the iconic Pioneer plaque. Together with Frank Drake, Ann Druyan, Tim Ferris and Jon Lomberg,...

This week will see the release of Easy A, and I'm fairly certain I'm not alone in my excitement (I imagine a number of you awkwardly groping at Emma Stone's hair, Torgo-style, should you ever find yourself near her in person). Good teen movies are something of a rarity, and have become more so as time goes on. In honor of this hopefully decent addition to the genre, I believe we should examine the world of the teen film and its importance to all of us.
Now, if you're going to strictly define a film as a "teen movie" some guidelines will apply. For example, I do not include horror films. Horror films are rarely, at least in any way but metaphorically, about the teenage experience. Additionally, because there is a big difference between movies for teens and movies for adults about teens, I do not include nostalgic films or most indie movies,...

Mother’s Day is the day we take to reflect on how much our mothers have done for us, and to show them our appreciation. It’s also the day that we choose to collectively ignore the fact that childbirth is just about the most fascinating, terrifying, revolting, sticky thing to which people willingly subject themselves to. What with the screaming, crying, ripping, bleeding, and pooping, it’s no wonder that a profound fear of the process would creep into our collective unconscious, only to be spat out again in our entertainment.
Supernatural television shows, both science-fiction and fantasy, cheerfully pay each other homage by plagiarizing the same idea over and over again, with varying degrees of success. They seem to have focused particular attention on the bloodbath of childbirth, mixing it up with each show’s unearthly gimmick. Specifically, they like to come up with preternaturally accelerated pregnancies, which...
