A video-playlist of Lynchian proportions.
Of the many cryptic quotes uttered by the Man From Another Place in David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks, one of the more famous is the following:
“Where I come from the birds sing a pretty song and there’s always music in the air.”
This is meant to be a vague description of the otherworldly realm in which the Man dwells, but it’s equally as apt a description of the town of Twin Peaks, where between all the murdering, dimension hopping, and coffee consumption, there’s a fair amount of singing. Leland alone belts out “Get Happy,” “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” “Getting to Know You,” and “Mairzy Doats” over the course of the series, and who could forget the honey-dripping, high-note doo-wop of James, Donna and Maddy recording the original “Just You?” or Julee Cruise and the band down at The Road House?

President Barack Obama has shaken the hands of many, but none have impacted him quite like Army Ranger Cory Remsburg. In an emotional new video, the President documented his relationship with Remsburg in the seven years since they first met in 2009 - which was ahead of the Afghanistan explosion that left the sergeant with a traumatic brain injury, two collapsed lungs, paralysis and damage to his vocal cords. "Seven years ago today, while honoring the heroes of D-Day, I met a young Army Ranger, Cory Remsburg," Obama wrote in a Facebook post. "Eight months later, I walked into a hospital...

It can be a challenging thing to keep the momentum going after winning your first Academy Award, but apparently not for Brie Larson.

Two months after collecting her Best Actress statuette, the Room actress hosted one of the better episodes of Saturday Night Live‘s Season 41.
Ok, her opening monologue — hijacked by various regular cast members’ Mother’s Day shout-outs — failed to ignite, but Larson otherwise proved both game and adept, and luckily got solid material to match her comedic skills.

Ken Watanabe is taking on one of the most iconic musicals for his American stage debut, and will star as the king of Siam in Rogers and Hammerstein's “The King and I,” Lincoln Center Theater announced on Monday. Set in the 1860s, “The King and I” follows the tempestuous relationship between the king of Siam and Anna Leonowens (Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara), a British schoolteacher the king brings to his country to tutor his many wives and children. The musical gave us such memorable songs as “Getting to Know You,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.” See also: Rose Byrne to.

Part of the list provides a few Best Picture nominees, a number of Oscar winners, and a childhood favorite that still pops up now and again. In reality, this list could be half-full of music documentaries, but for that reason, I stayed away from them. Plus, I did my best to include only films that really are musicals in every sense of the word. Plenty of films have lots of musical components, but only true musicals have performances in the film that truly drive the story forward. The songs in movie musicals have a purpose, if there could be a true definition.

"The Mindy Project" (premieres Tues., Sept. 25 at 9:30 p.m. Et on Fox) got my vote for best new comedy of the season, and that's largely due to the show's phenomenal cast.
The brainchild of creator/writer/executive producer Mindy Kaling, who stars as the show's unlucky-in-love Ob/Gyn title character, the show also stars Chris Messina as her roiugh-around-the-edges coworker Danny Castellano; Ed Weeks as another colleague, Jeremy Reed, who Mindy can't seem to resist; Anna Camp as Mindy's best friend, Gwen; and Ike Barinholtz (also a writer on the show) as the office nurse, Morgan, who just so happens to be an ex-con and an ex-stripper. Stephen Tobolowsky also stars as the boss trying to keep the practice running while staying out of the drama.

Roslyn Kind: Coming Home
Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College
April 28, 2012
Roslyn Kind is an authentic song artist and entertainer. The audience at the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts was treated to a full hour-and-a-half of her fine voice and lively presence. Using her magnificent instrument, she beautifully rendered songs, "standards" and otherwise. Her infectious self-delight never faltered as she sang, conversationally spoke of growing up in a nearby Brooklyn neighborhood, and engaged with the audience as if the theater were her living room.
Ms. Kind is that breed of entertainer which sophisticated night-lifers would make it their business to see at the lavish "rooms" of old: El Morocco and the Persian Room in New York, or the Chez Paree in Chicago (all now long gone into history). Today we must to settle for the cabaret and the concert hall, and we are fortunate that...

Yep, she's becoming a director, too, just like Madonna and Angelina Jolie. Variety is reporting that Barry Spikings, Oscar winning producer of The Deer Hunter, is backing and producing the feature directorial debut of actress Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow in The Avengers next summer. She'll be taking on an adaptation of Truman Capote's 40s lost novella Summer Crossing, about an 18-year-old girl breaking free of her rich, smothering, family to discover her own identity and sexuality. Well, this sounds like an interesting step for Johansson, but she did direct the 2009 short These Vagabond Shoes just before. The news focuses on the project coming together with producers, including executive producer Peter D. Graves in conjunction with the Truman Capote Literary Trust and its trustee Alan Schwartz. Screenwriter and New York playwright Tristine Skyler (Getting to Know You, The Bell Jar) is adapting the Capote novella for Johansson. "Summer...

Pulp Fiction arrived on Blu-ray on October 4th and I have been mesmerized by the disc ever since. This is my second favorite film by Quentin Tarantino ( my favorite being Inglorious Basterds) and the Blu-ray looks amazing. This movie has impacted the way I watch movies. I remember seeing this movie on the late showing on a school night, which was not the best thing to do because I spent the rest of the night discussing it with friend and smoking cigarettes. My high school mind was not prepared for Tarantino’s dialogue or non-linear storytelling. My mind was simply blown.
Synospsis:

Pulp Fiction Blu-Ray Lionsgate Home Entertainment 1994/Rated R/154 mins List Price: $19.99 – Available October 4, 2011 Pulp Fiction was one of those event films you could feel coming months before it hit theaters. I remember greatly anticipating its debut for the summer of 1994 only to hear Quentin Tarantino's second feature had been pushed back to Fall after it won the Palm d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It began to generate incredible buzz after audiences were amazed at the kind of beautifully structured collage of stories and images that unspooled before them. Us audiences were equally engrossed, as the film caused debate and controversy, with word-of-mouth rocketing the 8 million dollar production past the 100 million mark. In addition, the picture gave a huge kick to the careers of John Travolta and many others. The film stars John Travolta as Vincent Vega, a hitman who we first see working with his partner Jules (Samuel L. Jackson...

Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown are arriving on Blu-ray on October 4th. Pulp Fiction was one of my most mind-blowing experiences at the theater. I went into the film blind, not knowing what the film was truly about, and left the theater on a cloud of awesomeness. I had yet to see Reservoir Dogs, and was not familiar with Quentin Tarantino until this movie (even though I had seen a number of films he wrote). Jackie Brown may not be the phenomenon that Pulp Fiction was, but it is still an amazing film with great characters. I was very happy to hear that both of these cinematic gems were getting the Blu-ray treatment.
The discs have some great features, which you can check out below. Here is the Blu-ray trailer for Jackie Brown:

The Apprentice is back!!!
No more do reality TV addicts have to sit through hours of tuneless singers and left footed dancers, now we have some real prats to laugh at!
Lord Alan Sugar’s show returns for it’s seventh series this evening but it kicks off with a twist. No longer are the candidates vying for a job in his company – not that it matters, most of the winners end up leaving anyway – this year the person who impresses the Amstrad boss most, will receive £250,000 and enter into a partnership with Sugar in their own fledgling company.
And we’re off! The by-now standard montage of this year’s Apprentice contestants had some gems – a woman who doesn’t believe the sky’s the limit if there are footprints on the moon, and someone from Northern Ireland who we’re not sure whether to support or rip to shreds.

If there's one niche the Nintendo Wii has cornered these days, it's the market for truly social gaming — not online gaming, but in-person, interactive, social experiences with a group of people who may or may not have any prior gaming experience. After laying the foundation for the Wii's fun, party-starting potential with titles like "Wii Sports" and "Wii Play," Nintendo is hoping to build on that foundation with "Wii Party," which just might be the most social of their party game collections thus far.
In order to review it properly, I enlisted the help of my wife, Jessica, to play through as much of the game as possible with me, and share some of her observations about how "Wii Party" plays for someone with significantly less gaming experience.
The Basics
Much like in previous Wii-branded games, "Wii Party" is not so much a single game as it is a collection of minigames.

One week away from the season 2 premiere, "Glee" tides fans over with the audio of "Empire State of Mind" cover. Debuted via Sirius Xm radio on Tuesday, September 14, the song originally sung by Jay-z is notably rapped by Kevin McHale's Artie, Cory Monteith's Finn and Mark Salling's Puck. Meanwhile, Alicia Keys' part is tackled by Amber Riley's Mercedes.
The cover is picked as the club is heading to Nationals in NYC after placing at Regionals. A promo containing the performance scene from the first return episode has been released, revealing at the same time that the Gleeks would wear "New York City" shirts complete with the Hip-Hop attribute.
Rolling Stone reported that "Auditions" will also feature renditions of Lady GaGa's "Telephone," Travis McCoy's "Billionaire," and Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." They will additionally do Broadway numbers like "What I Did for Love...

Eleven days until Glee returns! Can you feel the excitement in your bones yet? (If so, better get that checked out. It could be osteoporosis. Just kidding, Gleeks are never old!)
What was my original point? Oh yeah. Glee news and spoilers! Here ya go:

The Glee September 21 premiere will feature renditions of Jay-z's "Empire State of Mind" (group number) Lady Gaga's "Telephone" (Charice and Lea Michele), Travie McCoy's "Billionaire" (Chord Overstreet) and Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" (also Chord Overstreet ... We love Sue Sylvester quotes and can't get enough of Rachel and Finn.
But let's be honest: it's the Glee music that keeps us coming back to this Fox comedy each week. With that in mind, we're excited to list the singles that will be sung on the September 21 season two premiere. They'll be:
"Empire State of Mind" "Telephone" "Billionaire" (by Chord Overstreet) "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" "What I Did for Love” from A Chorus Line "Getting to Know You” from The King and I “Listen” from Dreamgirls (sung by Charice)
Which song are you most excited about?...

With Daniel Stamm's Eli Roth produced horror picture The Last Exorcism coming to theatres next week I had the chance earlier this week to sit as part of a round table with stars Patrick Fabian and Ashley Bell to talk about the film and their experiences making it. You'll find the complete transcript of that conversation below.
(To Ashley) It's funny, you were born and raised in Hollywood, always around the industry, and here you are playing this hick. This girl who has never really been off the farm. It must be great to be an actor and live all these different lives.
Ashley: It is. It is so much fun. And I probably shouldn't say that for this heinously violent character that I play but it was so much fun. The process of preparing for Nell and figuring out what she hasn't been exposed to because she's never left,...

Today, the housemates have been challenged to a Tug of War, with a twist.
Channel 4’s Bb site said of the task, ‘Two housemates are pitched against each other in a simple tug-o-war.
‘However, instead of pulling a rope, housemates each wear a pair of tights over their heads (tied together at the feet) and must use their body strength to pull each other across lines on opposite sides of the garden.’
Steve was the adjudicator as each pair of housemates faced each other and moved backwards until the tights were pulled taut.
The winner is the first housemate to step over the line on their side. And all winners will join Steve for a party tonight!

The housemates were split into three teams; yellow, blue and green, and ultimately, the green team won.
The green team comprised Ife John James and Dave who will all share a meal with the newbies while the rest of the housemates will be locked in the main house.
