Over the years, South Korea has been rocked by a dizzying number of mass tragedies that echoed all over the world. “Life Goes On”, a soulful, tender documentary, follows the aggrieved parents who lost a son or daughter in some of the most infamous man-made disasters: the 2014 Sewol ferry disaster of course, which claimed the lives of 304 people, among them 250 high school students; but also the 2003 Daegu subway fire and its 192 victims, or the 1999 Sealand youth training center fire, which claimed the lives of 19 children and 4 adults.
These are vertiginous figures, but how do you convey the sheer human reality behind each one of those statistics? “Life Goes On” succeeds remarkably well in that respect, opting for a subdued, tactful encounter with the parents who have been in mourning sometimes for decades.
This largely observational documentary, which proceeds at a gentle, unrushed pace, dispenses with authoritative voiceovers...

Upon sweeping the four main drama acting categories at the 2021 Emmy Awards, “The Crown” stars Olivia Colman, Josh O’Connor, Gillian Anderson, and Tobias Menzies all joined a special roster of lead or supporting TV academy honorees who were not part of their shows’ original casts. As members of the expansive Netflix series’ second of three distinct ensembles, this quartet and their co-stars were replaced ahead of season five by a new group of actors, some of whom could be added to said exclusive winners club later this year.

Ever since Abbas Kiarostami’s And Life Goes On premiered back in 1992, movies set in cars have become the modus operandi of some of Iranian cinema’s greatest works.

The devoted culture warriors dedicated to taking Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” to the top of the charts appear to have already grown bored of the song as it plummeted from Number One to Number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.
Last week, the song topped the Hot 100, several months after its initial release in April, and following the arrival of a controversial music video that critics — from the country music world to academia — said promoted white nationalism and painted protests against racial injustice as lawless and violent.

In a lovely victory for songs with absolutely zero ties to racially charged violence or drunken controversies, Jung Kook of BTS has secured his first solo No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Seven,” which features rapper Latto, officially debuted in the top slot on Monday, July 24th, shutting out recent offerings from Jason Aldean and Morgan Wallen.
With this latest accolade, Jung Kook joins bandmate Jimin as a BTS member with a solo chart-topping hit. BTS together previously hit No. 1 with “Dynamite,” “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat),” “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” “Permission To Dance,” and “My Universe.”
“Seven,” our recent Song of the Week co-produced and co-written by Andrew Watt, officially kicks off Jung Kook’s solo era — but there’s no word yet on when Army can expect a full album from the vocalist, dancer, and youngest member of BTS. There’s nothing like Ed Sheeran’s vocals and a guitar. On Monday, Rolling Stone premiered a special episode of On Deck, featuring a performance from our recent cover story subject. During the set at the Moonfire Ranch in Malibu, Sheeran went through three songs from his new album, Subtract.
The video sees Sheeran — dressed in a leather jacket and a white shirt — performing “Boat” on guitar with his eyes closed. The original recording featured Aaron Dessner, who produced Sheeran’s album, playing piano.

Well, that was something. The 2023 ACM Awards ended on a Texas-sized downer, with Dolly Parton giving the premiere of the new song “World on Fire” from her upcoming rock project and showering the audience not only with confetti, but with a sense of impending doom while dancers twirled around her.
“What we gonna do when it all burns down?” she sang, backed by a stomp-clap rhythm straight out of late-Nineties Shania Twain. It sounded sort of urgent at first, but then she also sang vague things like “When did we lose in God we trust,...

Ed Sheeran made his ACM Awards debut on Thursday night, but he didn’t go it alone: The English pop star was joined by Luke Combs to perform Sheeran’s song “Life Goes On,” off his album – (Subtract). A studio version of the collab was released after the show.
Standing on a lit platform in the center of the arena, Sheeran accompanied himself on acoustic guitar. He was also joined by a group of string players, and then, for the second verse, Combs. The two harmonized their way through the bridge and final chorus,...

At the 58th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, the top prize, entertainer of the year, was handed out to Chris Stapleton, even as Lainey Wilson and Hardy came away tied for top honors with four awards each — including shared wins for their duet, “Wait in the Truck.”
Wilson was the night’s top winner, if it came down to number of categories in which she prevailed. The singer won for best female artist, best album, visual media and music event (the last two both for “Wait in the Truck”). Hardy won in three categories — best artist-songwriter, visual media and music event — but the ACMs counted him as winning twice in the music event division, as both an artist and producer on “Wait in the Truck,” upping his count for the night to four.

Ed Sheeran is in Frisco, Texas, for Thursday night’s 58th Academy of Country Music Awards, where he’ll perform “Life Goes On,” from his latest album – (Subtract), and with a surprise country guest.

Ed Sheeran’s –, pronounced “subtract,” is, as its title suggests, an album defined by absence, primarily as it relates to the scant amount of backing percussion or electric amplification throughout, but also in regard to its total lack of commercial sheen. Save for some radio fodder like the Max Martin and Shellback-helmed “Eyes Closed,” the English singer-songwriter’s sixth studio album hardly feels like it’s taking a major stab at pop virality.
The majority of the album’s 14 songs were co-written and produced by the National’s Aaron Dessner, who assisted Taylor Swift make a pivot toward a more intimate, stripped down sound on her cottage-core diptych Folklore and Evermore. Sheeran’s album might have reached that platonic ideal if the songwriting at the center of these carefully arranged tracks was up to snuff, or if its austere artistic gambit was executed with more vigor or dynamism than...

It was a night of firsts, lasts and an upset win as TV’s finest gathered together to celebrate the 45th Primetime Emmy Awards on ABC on September 19, 1993. Even the host made history — in more ways than one. Read on for our Emmys flashback 30 years ago to 1993.
For the first time ever, the ceremony was hosted solely by a female — who was also, ironically, the unluckiest actress in Emmy history. Up for her 13th Emmy nomination that evening, Angela Lansbury guided the ceremony with her usual grace. Lansbury passed away in 2022, with the record of most Best Drama Actress bids as well as the record for most overall nominations without a win at 18. However, she wasn’t the only one nominated at this ceremony who has never won despite numerous nominations, or the only one to lay claim to an unfortunate record.

He’s the king, he’s the boss: Suga of BTS kicked off the “Agust D Tour” in style at the Ubs Arena in New York on April 26th. The first member of the South Korean group to undertake a solo tour, Suga performed cuts from his mixtapes as alter-ego Agust D, along with songs from BTS’s discography and tracks from his new full-length record, D-day (read the review here).
While Suga is hitting the US and Asia solo, he has plenty of nods to his bandmates onstage, like his guitar, which features messages and notes from the other six members of BTS. Meanwhile, in addition to his explosive and emotive solo tracks, the setlist for the concert includes a medley of tracks originally recorded and performed with fellow members of the BTS rap line, Rm and j-hope, the latter of whom recently began his time in the South Korean military.

For more than a decade, Suga has had the world’s eyes upon him: As a member of BTS, the Mc-singer-producer lives at the epicenter of a pop frenzy. Since 2016, though, he’s been testing his artistic boundaries with releases under the name Agust D — “Suga” spelled backward, with the letters “D” and “T” added to honor his birthplace of Daegu, South Korea. On these tracks, he muses on the modern age and flaunts his appreciation of pop and hip-hop from the past.

Carol Locatell was born on December 13, 1940 – a date that happens to have been a Friday the 13th. So it seems very fitting that when she embarked on an acting career, her role in the 1985 slasher Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (watch it Here) would turn out to become the role she was best known for. Locatell delivered a hilarious performance in that film, making the foul-mouthed Ethel Hubbard someone fans have been having fun watching for nearly forty years now. Sadly, Locatell is no longer with us. She passed away recently at the age of 82. Ron Sloan, who played Ethel’s dimwitted son Junior in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, broke the news of her passing on social media last night.
Sloan wrote,
Dearest friends, fans, and Horror family,
With great sadness, it breaks my heart to announce that my Friday the 13th Part 5 Mom, (Ethel Hubbard) Carol Locatell has passed away.
