Moving, meaningful and loud

This is an amazing film! I saw it when I was a little kid and finally found it in a video store that caters to "hard-to-find" films.

This film takes place in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg, as well as formerly St. Petersburg) during the early times of Gorbachev and Perestroika/Glasnost. This movie stars the lead singer of the underground (punk) rock band Alisa and his little brother who is the burglar. It's about coming of age, the underground rock scene in the USSR which was about 3 years away from becoming above ground. The music is great, the scenes are raw and I just cannot get enough of this film.

One problem is, if you don't speak/understand Russian you may have a problem with the subtitles. They are white and sometimes can be difficult to see.
