Rocker and activist Bob Geldof made an appearance at this week’s EnergaCamerimage cinematography film festival, where he reflected on his career and revealed that an Imax film about Live Aid, the 1985 benefit concert that he organized, may be on the way to theaters.
He also didn’t mince words when he talked about his dislike for 1982 musical film Pink Floyd-The Wall, a screening of which he helped to introduce at Camerimage in Torún, Poland, with his friend, cinematographer and Lifetime Achievement Award honoree Peter Biziou. “I don’t like the film. I think I’m really bad. I’m not an actor, and I think it’s like an extended video,” he freely admitted of the Alan Parker film in which he starred. “I don’t think it’s a film, and I think that’s the nature of the exercise. It’s an album by Pink Floyd. I don’t like the record.

Torun, Poland, is a quiet hamlet nearly three hours from Warsaw, and one of the hallmarks of the yearly Camerimage Film Festival—celebrating the best and brightest in the world of cinematography—is how tranquil and non-dramatic it is.
Until this year, that is.
After a not-having-it-at-all “Ferrari” star Adam Driver’s slyly profane rejection of a dopey audience query got the internet all hot and bothered, Boomtown Rats frontman and Live Aid mastermind basically Bob Geldof said “I can top that!” with a much more profane, much more indicting and all-around hilarious roasting of not only himself, but the film he was there to support: Alan Parker’s visually innovative 1982 rock opera “Pink Floyd the Wall,” one of several retrospective screenings celebrating the career of Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Peter Biziou, an Oscar-winning director of photography.

Classic rocker Bob Geldof is the latest high-profile name to pass through what is turning out to be a bustling and A-list edition of Poland’s EnergaCamerimage Film Festival, where he is presenting a screening of his 1982 feature Pink Floyd – The Wall.
Geldof plays the lead in the music drama, and he’s set to introduce the pic here at Camerimage with the film’s DoP Peter Biziou, who is the recipient of the festival’s lifetime achievement award.
When quizzed by journalists during a press Q&a whether he looked back on the feature, directed by Alan Parker, as a defining moment of his artistic career, Geldof’s response was definitive: “No, I don’t like the film. I think I’m really bad.”
“I’ve seen the movie twice, and I was embarrassed,” Geldof continued, adding that he could only finish working on the film because Biziou made it “very easy.

The 31st edition of the Camerimage Film Festival, Europe’s top cinematography event, will welcome a host of stellar guests to the Gothic Polish town of Torun, including Adam Driver, Sean Penn and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer.
Driver and Penn will screen their latest films, respectively, the high-octane biopic “Ferrari” and the portrait of Eastern Europe’s most remarkable wartime president, Volodymyr Zelensky, “Superpower.”
As regular fest guests have learned, the calendar of film screenings is just as important to study as the schedule for panels, seminars and masterclasses. That’s because Camerimage, with limited event space for now, strategically holds filmmaker talks following film projections, often in the same hall of the Jordanki cinema space.
Which means opening-night audiences who linger after Camerimage screens Robbie Ryan-shot “Poor Things,” the Frankenstein-esque fairytale by Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone, will be able to...

Camerimage Film Festival, which is devoted to the art of cinematography, is to pay tribute to Peter Biziou. The British cinematographer, who won an Oscar for “Mississippi Burning,” and was BAFTA nominated for “The Truman Show,” will receive the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Biziou, the son of cinematographer-animator Leon Bijou, started his career at an animation company in London. In the mid-sixties, he started to light film sets for commercials and shorts, which helped foster “his innate intuition and his courage to implement innovation,” the festival said. He worked with the likes of Len Fulford, Bob Brooks, Terence Donovan, John Swannell and Frank Budgen.
His work with fashion photographer Robert Freeman brought an invitation for Biziou to be in charge of the visuals on Freeman’s fiction film debut, 1969’s “Secret World,” starring Jacqueline Bisset, which was well-received.

(Welcome to Animation Celebration, a recurring feature where we explore the limitless possibilities of animation as a medium. In this edition: "Pink Floyd — The Wall.")
The first time I watched "Pink Floyd — The Wall" was also the first time I experimented with hallucinogenic drugs. A '90s kid to the core, I had heard countless stories from my parents and their friends about how life-changing it was to experience the film for the first time and I wanted a little taste of that. The joke's on me though, because I have aphantasia, and hallucinogens are one of the only ways folks like me can actually visualize with my eyes closed. Needless to say, I totally freaked out and had to lie down for what felt like approximately three days. Regardless, 10/10 would do again in a heartbeat.
"Pink Floyd — The Wall" is a dramatization of the legendary British rock band's eponymous concept album.

Duncan Jones' 2009 sci-fi film "Moon" is about a lonesome miner named Sam (Sam Rockwell) who works a high-tech drilling facility on the titular heavenly body. In the future, Earth's oil resources have run out, and energy is produced by a new miracle fuel called Helium-3, which can only be found on the moon. The mining equipment is so advanced that the entire building can be run by one person. Sam is aided by an artificial intelligence named Gerty, voiced by Kevin Spacey. Sam misses his family and is growing weary. He even seems to be hallucinating, as he will occasionally see a strange hobo-like man stalking through the hallways.
After Sam experiences an accident while in a lunar rover and is knocked unconscious, he awakens back at base with no memory of his return. But Gerty is acting suspicious, holding secret conversations with home base back on Earth. Sam investigates...

It’s no secret that music plays a very important role in the Netflix comedy “Russian Doll.” IndieWire even chatted with the show’s music supervisor Brienne Rose and composer Joe Wong recently about how tunes like Nena’s “99 Luftballoons” and “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” by Bauhaus played significant roles in Season 2’s winsome timewarp adventure.

When Warner Media merged with Discover earlier this year in a massive, multi-billion-dollar deal to form Warner Bros. Discovery, it was most certainly seen as a huge deal within the media landscape. Though it failed to generate the same widespread buzz that the Disney/Fox deal a few years ago did, for somewhat obvious reasons. However, under the leadership of new CEO David Zaslav, the company is changing drastically and rapidly. Case in point, it appears we can expect more movies in theaters from Warner Bros., and far fewer movies made directly for HBO Max.

Will the ratings climb in the fourth season of The Wall TV show on NBC? As we all know, the Nielsen ratings typically play a big role in determining whether a TV show like The Wall is cancelled or renewed for season five. Unfortunately, most of us do not live in Nielsen households. Because many viewers feel frustration when their viewing habits and opinions aren't considered, we invite you to rate all of the fourth season episodes of The Wall here. Status Update Below.
An NBC game show, The Wall TV show is hosted by Chris Hardwick. The game follows pairs of players as they pursue a cash prize of up to 12 million. When a team answers a trivia question correctly, a green ball drops from the top of the grid-like wall and bounces randomly toward the bottom of the four-stories high structure.

The future of high-profile unscripted NBC series including Amy Poehler’s Making It and Kristen Bell’s Family Game Fight! is up in the air as the network has indefinitely parked them.
Making It, Family Game Fight and AGT: Extreme did not make it into NBC’s schedule and it seems that they are the latest non-scripted series to neither be canceled or renewed – in a growing trend as highlighted by Fox earlier this morning as well as ABC with series such as Supermarket Sweep and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
It comes as the network has revealed that two of its other big unscripted series The Wheel and Million Dollar Island will launch in midseason.

NBC revealed its fall 2022-2023 lineup Monday, which includes “La Brea” occupying the current Tuesdays at 9 p.m. home of “This Is Us,” as well as the “Quantum Leap” reboot series taking the coveted post-“The Voice” launchpad. On a season that includes new coach Camila Cabello, that’s an even nicer slot to occupy as the broadcast network’s splashy new drama.
Mondays in the fall will begin with the two-hour episode of “The Voice” at 8 p.m., followed by “Quantum Leap” as its lead-out at 10.
On Tuesdays, “The Voice” will kickoff the night with its one-hour edition at 8 p.m., leading into “La Brea” at 9. Comedies and dramas traditionally make up a large portion of the broadcast TV landscape between September and May, but networks don’t deny the continuous draw of hit reality TV and competition shows. Each season, ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, the so-called “Big 4” broadcasters, bring back old staples and add in new unscripted content in hopes of topping each other outside of their sitcoms and procedurals.
While there could always be slight adjustments to season-long averages by the end of the traditional broadcast season in a few weeks, Variety has gathered Nielsen’s “most current” data through May 8 to rank ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox’s highest and lowest-rated unscripted series among adults 18-49.
Below are the lists, which count 33 completed weeks of the soon-ending season. These ratings are averages for the unscripted shows’ respective seasons and based on a week’s worth of delayed viewing, where available. The lists...

Thinking back on it one might have to admit that quite a few movies featuring snipers tend to deal with at least two or three different locations when it comes to filming, but somehow The Wall ends up making a single location work for its setting, as it takes up a relatively small part of the landscape in which this story plays out. There are a few elements in this movie that are pointed in a blunt and brutal fashion, and while not all of them might be how things are handled in the real world, the very idea that

Robert Costa, a Washington Post reporter who has become increasingly visible on TV news networks in the past two election cycles, will join CBS News as its chief election and campaign correspondent, a move that shows the often insular ViacomCBS news division luring new talent under its umbrella.
Costa, who was a co-author with Robert Woodward on the recent best-seller “Peril” and logged a three-year stint as moderator of PBS’ “Washington Week,” will join CBS News on Feb. 13 and work out of its Washington bureau. He comes aboard as most big news divisions are gearing up to cover the 2022 midterm elections, which are likely to offer a preview of the next run for the presidency. He has been with the Post as a national political reporter since 2014.
“Bob Costa is one of the best political reporters of his generation,” said Neeraj Khemlani, co-president of ViacomCBS’ news and stations unit, in a statement.

Brad Pitt is teaming with French producer Damien Quintard to revive Miraval Studios, located at the Château Miraval in Correns, France. A major renovation, overseen and planned by Miraval co-owner Pitt and Quintard, will see the recording studio reopen in summer 2022.
In 1977, the estate’s then-owner, French pianist and composer Jacques Loussier, built a state-of-the-art studio on the property which hosted sessions for Pink Floyd’s “The Wall,” AC/DC, The Cure, Sting, Sade and The Cranberries, among others. The studio was active into the early 2000s, but has been unused for nearly two decades. Now fully redesigned and updated, Miraval Studios is taking bookings for the summer.
Quintard first became known in the world of classical music and won a Daytime Emmy Award for his work on the Baku 2015 European Olympic Opening Ceremony. He has also produced artists such as Brian Eno, Arca, Parcels and Teodor Currentzis, among others.

Friday night was coming up fives in primetime for the major networks, as five – count ’em – five shows tied for the top demo mark on the evening.
The CBS crime drama lineup was the king of Friday night, as Swat, Magnum Pi, and Blue Bloods all came in with an 0.5 rating in the 8 Pm to 11 Pm span. Blue Bloods also had the highest overall total viewership at – you guessed it – 5.90 million.
Not to be outdone, ABC’s Shark Tank also came in with an 0.5 on the night. Its trailing 20/20 newsmag had an 0.3 for its examination of the Rust on-set shooting incident, a program that included more of George Stephanopoulos’ exclusive talk with Alec Baldwin from last week. But the real point of the show was the featured analysis, which included by Deadline’s own Dominic Patten and former editor Anita Busch.

ABC’s 20/20 won the Friday night demo wars with a huge 1.0, as the newsmag and interviewer Diane Sawyer profiled the “House of Horror” story of the Turpin family, whose 12 children suffered unimaginable torture and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents. The show was seen by more than 7 million viewers.
Earlier, there was nothing abstract about the big winner on the network’s Shark Tank on Friday. A paint-by-numbers company called “Pink Picasso” closed a $400k deal after a four-Shark bidding war. The drama of those negotiations raised Shark Tank to an 0.6 on the night.
Fox’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown emanated from Hartford, Connecticut, as the Uso family revved up the excitement for a Sunday Survivor Series PPV event. The action brought in an 0.5.
NBC game show The Wall dropped a bit from last week, coming in at an 0.3, which was also the demo score for trailing newsmag Dateline.

Photo: Rock Opera The premiere of Leos Carax’s ‘Annette’ on Amazon Prime has baffled audiences because of aspects like musical numbers during sex and Baby Annette being a wooden puppet instead of an actual child. While these moments confused some audiences, others who are more acquainted with the rock opera genre were expecting this level of weirdness. Rock operas are a subgenre of film where, like an opera, all the characters sing their dialogue but with a rock-and-roll edge. Many bands have used this genre to create films based on their albums, such as Pink Floyd with ‘Pink Floyd - The Wall’ and the Who’s ‘Tommy’. The format of the rock opera has been used to embrace transgressive ideas with avant-garde forms of filmmaking. NBCUniversal and the BBC are searching for the next wave of unscripted after striking a transatlantic partnership.
The U.S. media group, which operates broadcast network NBC, a slew of cable networks and streamer Peacock, and the British public broadcaster have teamed up to find unscripted shows that can work both in the States and UK.
The pair will hunt for shows produced by British producers across unscripted genres and will look to co-commission pilots or develop projects with series potential.
They have agreed terms for producers, based on the BBC’s existing terms, which will be a boon for producers as the BBC has much more favorable terms that U.S. networks. Diversity will also be a key part of the decision-making process.
NBC has also remade a number of BBC formats including The Wheel, The Weakest Link and Dragon’s Den, while the BBC has remade NBC’s The Wall.

In the latest TV ratings, ABC’s coverage of the Monday Night Football season opener averaged 7.4 million total viewers and a 1.7 demo rating, obviously dominating the night in both measures.
Fox’s two-hour (and unexpectedly emotional!) Hell’s Kitchen season finale (averaging 2.2 mil/0.5) and NBC’s American Ninja Warrior finale (3.4 mil/0.5) held steady and tied for (a very distant) second in the demo. Leading out of Anw, The Wall (2.1 mil/0.3) was also steady.

Nickelodeon head Brian Robbins is slated to become the next chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, people familiar with the matter have confirmed to Variety.
Robbins, who currently oversees Nickelodeon, has seen his responsibilities expand since re-joining parent company ViacomCBS in 2018. and has established a reputation as one of the industry’s key purveyors of content aimed at teens and younger viewers. He also serves as the chief content officer of kids & family for Paramount Plus, the streaming service launched this year by ViacomCBS.
He will take the reins from Jim Gianopulos, a respected film veteran who took over the studio in 2017 after a long stint at 20th Century Fox. Paramount controls valuable franchises such as “Mission: Impossible” and “Transformers,” but it has often found itself punching up against entertainment giants such as Disney and Warner Bros., which have deeper libraries. ViacomCBS further complicated matters by being slow to launch...
