Editor, composer, director and producer John Ottman is teaming with film and music industry executive David Franco to develop a dramatic biopic based on the life of world-renowned Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi.
The project, written by Kevin Lund and Tj Scott, has had been long-gestating, beginning 20 years ago when Ron Howard was set to direct. After many unsuccessful attempts, including with members of the famous Italian filmmaking De Laurentiis family in 2008, the project needed a new vision.
In 2018, Franco, the music producer on previous versions, brought the script to Ottman, who he saw as the man “destined to bring Vivaldi to life.” “There’s simply no talent more suited to craft this remarkable story,” he says.
Ottman immediately got to work re-shaping the story with the writers, before the Covid-19 pandemic stalled the project once again. Now, it’s finally back on track. “After all these years, we’ve never been more confident.

German director Volker Schlöndorff, who won the Cannes’ Palme d’Or and an Oscar for his 1979 drama “The Tin Drum,” is set to direct a film about how Antonio Vivaldi — the 18th-century Italian composer of “The Four Seasons” — formed what is touted as the world’s first all-female orchestra.
Schlöndorff’s still-untitled depiction of this lesser-known aspect of Vivaldi’s career is based on a book by German writer Peter Schneider, which has been adapted for the big screen by Italian scribe Francesco Piccolo (“My Brilliant Friend”) along with the director.
The plan is for cameras to start rolling later this year on the film, which will mark the first foray into Italian-language cinema by Schlöndorff, who is a fluent speaker. It will be shot entirely in Italy. Casting is still being decided, and sales are likely to be launched at the Cannes market in May.

The 2024 Mean Girls remake faced a torrent of criticism since the trailer dropped in November 2023. Now that it finally hit theaters last month, it hasn’t fared very well.
The new Mean Girls movie is a musical remake, not just a regular one. It’s based on the 2018 Broadway musical, which itself was based on the 2004 film. The movie introduces a new generation of the Plastics to audiences.
Mean Girls
Although the remake failed to capture the original essence of the first flick—Tina Fey strived to make this adaptation of Mean Girls fun, by bringing beloved characters to the screen with a whole new generation.
The Sisters’ star is one of the influential female voices in the industry. With her quirky, comic-genius glory and wit, it’s no wonder why many love her.
That’s why even Auliʻi Cravalho stepped forward to defend her and had something to say to Mean Girls detractors.

There's a lot of news out of Hollywood today, with a focus on limited series across streaming networks.
In the wake of the strikes and due to their popularity with stars and viewers, we expect a lot more limited series as time goes on. The talent they attract promises us the very best of the entertainment world at every level.
But all the news today isn't by way of a limited series. One of TV's hottest programs just cast one of its most significant franchise characters.

Joe Pesci has been enjoying semi-retirement for most of this century, but he triumphantly reunited with Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro for “The Irishman,” which brought him an Oscar bid as Best Supporting Actor.
Pesci started his career at a very young age, appearing on the New York Stage before he even turned five. By the time he was ten years old, he was a regular on a television show called “Startime Kids.” In his teen years he lost interest in acting and instead started trying to launch a career as a musician. Despite releasing a record of his own his musical career didn’t really take off but he did play an instrumental part in the creation of the highly successful musical act Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Pesci was friends with Valli and other members of the group and he introduced them to the person that would launch their success.

Born and raised in New York, Barlia started his photography career in his early teens after his father brought home a camera he spotted on the train tracks. With no dialogue, Michelangelo Frammartino portrays a daring Calabrian cave dive as a moving meditation on the passage of time
Italian film-maker Michelangelo Frammartino, creator of the subtle and beautiful movie Le Quattro Volte (The Four Seasons), has returned with his first substantial feature in 12 years. It is effectively another silent movie: a mysterious, wordless evocation of Calabria in southern Italy, notionally set in the early 60s but actually unfolding in something like geological time. The dead-slow, dead-calm Il Buco (The Hole) is similar to Le Quattro Volte in style and substance, and incidentally restates a trope from that film: the ageing, unwell shepherd, played by a nonprofessional, whose craggy face is itself a kind of microcosmic landscape on which the camera lingers in closeup.
But where Le Quattro Volte was populated almost entirely by animals, their lives unhurriedly transcribed by Frammartino’s camera, here we get human visitors from the big city,...

Spring has officially sprung, and Weezer marked the occasion with a whimsical, fantasy-filled rendition of the group’s new single “A Little Bit of Love” on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The band transformed the late-night show’s stage into a fanciful forest, complete with a creepy mandolin-playing rabbit and frontman Rivers Cuomo sporting a pair of pointy elf ears.
Contrary to the sad sack nerd rock that propelled Weezer to fame in the early 90s, “A Little Bit of Love” is a blithe and uplifting ambling rock number, jam-packed with inspirational aphorisms.
